Barcelona interested in Pirlo

Italian television channel Sky Italia claims that Barcelona is interested in AC Milan midfielder and Italian international Andrea Pirlo (29). Guardiola would have asked for the player.

Pirlo is unsettled in Milan since new arrival Mathieu Flamini appeared to have signed a super contract and some of his team-mates got an important contract improvement.

This is crazy right??

Why would Pirlo leave Ac Milan? He is a class player and able to play in many positions in midfield so Flamini arriving does not affect him that much...

Or maybe this is some story being made up for other reasons...

I think he just wants a pay rise too...

Again, or a nonsense rumor or a very bad scouting and evaluation from FCB's board. This deal would be failure for every included part. For AC Milan because they would loose their midfield maestro as well as one of the club's symbols. For Barca, because they would get a player with very long spell in European giant who is used to their style of play and who never participated in any other national league. Besides, the requested fee wouldn't be anything below 20M €. For Pirlo himself, the deal would be also bad because he is in years that he can offer his best to his main club and transfer to another enviroment could be disasterous.

I suggest FCB to look to Joao Moutinho, and ASAP because his price will be at least 30% higher based on his good performance in Euro2008. It would be wise to use the Porto's excluding from CL and to pay some 24M € for one of the Europe's most perspective young midfielders. His advantage is that he comes from a relatively small club and actually CAN be bought, unlike Fabregas, Anderson (ManUtd), Hamsik (altrough Napoli is also small club they're determined to keep him).

Considering Diego, he is very good player, but is maybe too offensively oriented. With new midfielder we should have an real CENTER midfielder capable of holding the ball, excellent vision, good shoot and agility, preferably young. Fabregas would be the best choice, but since he is unobtainable I thing that Moutinho is preety much close to those characteristich. Unless Man Utd is willing to sell Anderson, which I somehow doubt.

As for Hleb and Van Der Vaart, none of them is a CENTER midfielder or much comfortable in that role.

Moutinho doesny play for Porto, he plays for Sporting, so I dont see your point of using Porto exclusion from Cl?!
Altough I agree he would be very good replacement ( I think that Lucho will be beter for now, Moutinho for building the team for the future)

Of course, my lapsus, JM plays for Sporting Lisabon, not Porto, but anyway, everything else stands. If Diego is option you should consider that he is a great player, but only when in form, and his form is very inconsistent (brasilian genetics :) and he is much more expensive. Moreover, seems like he's already chosen Real Madrid as his destination in case he leaves Bremen.
Joao Moutino's main advantage is that is very comfortable when in larger space (middle of the pitch) because of his vision, passing and positioning. Unlike Diego, he is even useful in defending. However, in order to become a real midfield ace he lacks some strength and athleticism which can be easily worked out.
I am only disappointed that Barca missed Luka Modric...

Doesn't Moutinho also has brazilian gentics?

What would Diego add to Madrid? With Guti and Sneijder (and even Gago) they have already players who do the playmaking. They should better focus on a good right winger and a back-up for Van Nistelrooij.

Anyway, I don't think we really need another first class midfielder (of course you never have enough good players, but we're spending a lot and left wing is now a priority).

I'll beg to differ. Pirlo is one of the best mids in the world. We'd be crazy not to sign him if at all possible.

His passing, defensive abilities and free kick taking are among the best in the world. Don't let home sentiment blind you to a player of this caliber. We don't have anyone in the midfield to compete.

Yes, there are Xavi and Iniesta (I think of Messi as a forward, though he is technically a mid), but they are different players. A player such as Pirlo would almost argue for a 4-4-2, with Messi and Henry up front and Yaya, Keita, Pirlo and Xavi in midfield. Wow.

By hook or by crook this team needs an attacking midfielder to take some of the pressure off Messi upfront. If it came down to Diego or Moutinho I would take Diego every day of the week. The only thing holding Barcelona back would be Diego's desire to play for Madrid instead (if indeed that is a fact.) I tend to believe that players will go where the money is and if Barcelona offered Diego a nice little wage package he would be on the first plane to Cataluna. The only problem with that is that after shelling out over 70mil Euros on player transfers already how much would Barcelona be able to afford Werder for Diego's services in return? My solution? Offer Eto'o and Marquez for him! And if need be throw in Guddy as well. Whatever it takes to keep the price down as low as possible.
