Deal on Giovani

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that a deal with Tottenham on the transfer of Barcelona right wing attacker and Mexican international Giovani dos Santos (19) could be announced tomorrow.

Barcelona has closed a principal agreement with Tottenham. The English premier League club will pay a transfer fee of 8 million euro°, plus 3 million euro° variables depending upon the games played and the goals scored by Giovani and the performances of Tottenham. Inter Milan would have offerd a higher fee, but the player always has preferred to go to England (read more here).

The decisive meeting was held on Thursday in Barcelona between Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain and Pini Zahavi, the agent of Giovani, who is currently recovering from an ankle injury. Barcelona sports vice president Marc Ingla and Zahavi later met in London to discuss the last details.

Zizinho, the father of Giovani, said in an interview with Mexican sports paper Récord that a deal is close but that nothing has been signed yet: "It's an honour that important clubs like Tottenham are interested in Giovani. Although the negotiations are well-advanced, there's nothing official yet."

Giovani's father suggests that the presence of manager Juande Ramos at Tottenham played an important role in the talks: "The project that the manager has offered to Giovani is promising and ambitious and my son wants to become a great player in Tottenham and help the club grow. The decision to leave Barcelona is of course a risk, but given his qualities it could be the best option for him."

Madrid sports tabloid As had yesterday nevertheless a report saying that Tottenham manager Juande Ramos was not at all interested in Giovani, despite the pressures by Zahavi. The tabloid claims that the most likely destination of Giovani is Inter Milan, that would want to include the player in a deal on Barcelona midfielder Deco (30), hoping that a package deal could turn out to be cheaper.

Send etoo, deco and giovani to inter and get maicon and ibrahimovic from them.Thats half you problems solved on the cheap.

Guess Deco and Eto'o could be enough in that case: Eto'o is more worth than Ibrahimovich and Maicon may be a little more than Deco, so together that would match.

I can't believe this. Who incompetent are our sport directors actually? Selling a young talent from La Masia for only €8m? Have they all lost their minds? Resign tomorrow you idiots.

Txiki Beguiristain, Laporta and rest of you idiots RESIGN NOW. How dare you agree to sell Dos Santos for 6.2 million, this is a disgrace, in a few years time you gonna attempt to resign him for £30million just like Fabregas, Pique and attempted signatures of Sergio Garcia. You fools don't care about this Club whivh we all love and sweat for!!!

Are they out of their minds? What a bunch of idiots. You would think they would learn a lesson after letting Fabregas go. But then again, what can we expect from a bunch of air heads.

I would say that most of you are idiots and not our board. How you can compare Fabregas and Giovani? Learn more about it or just shut up. We didnt Fabregas let go, he was stolen. Laporta visited him at home and was offering him a new contract but that bitch gone to Arsenal. So how you can blame the board for Fabregas's loss? Blame the player which had no character - the same goes on Merida and Pique, they behaved the same, traitors.

But Giovani is other case. In this case the board wants to sell. But Giovani could stay...they were offering him a new contract but he and his stupid agent refused it. So what should they do? Let him next season leave for free? Giovani is a pesetero, $$$ is his preference. I do not regret that we are selling a player which has such a bad character and his football qualities are avarage.

Agreed with the comment above... sometimes we dont really know the situation with the players... They might say they would like to stay in front of the camera but if a good opportunity comes along they might want to move (in Giovani's case more playing time... or maybe higher wages)

It is normal to jump to conclusion but there could be a possibility that there are things that we dont know...

But if Giovani does stay... try to imagine him playing... his best position would most likely be an attacking midfielder right? (as shown in the game Giovani scored the hat trick)... dont really see him reaching his full potential next season but with regular playing time the following season Giovani is looking to be a superstar...

However... does this means that Barca is intending to NOT win a trophy next season?? definately not... every season the goal is to win trophies right?? so this mean it would be difficult for Giovani to get regular playing time as there are other more experience players which at the moment are better than him...

Unless Giovani is willing to go on loan (which from what I have read he is NOT interested in) then it would be a bit difficult...

If he plays next season and does not get regular playing time... he might to begin regretting not moving to tottenham and the following season make his move when he is reaching his potential...

Not saying that Barca should not keep Giovani... as Giovani has shown that he has the talent to be a main player... but there are many things that we may not know..

Just an opinion...
