Boca president reveals contact with Palacio

Asked about the rumours linking the player with a summer move to Barcelona (read more here), Boca Juniors president Pedro Pompilio said in an interview with Argentinian newspaper La Nación that there have been contacts between Barcelona and Boca Juniors forward and Argentinian international Rodrigo Palacio (26):

"His agent and his father told me that Barcelona has contacted the player. It's common that interested clubs first contact a player to know if he's willing to join them and how much he wants to earn. Thereafter they make a bid to his club.

Until now, we didn't receive an offer for him, so we didn't yet put a price on Palacio. But we all know that he's an irreplacable player and that he's unique on the international market. Boca will respect his decision, but if we sell him, it will be for a very high fee."

This story seems to get stranger by the minute. I thought Palacio had previously made it clear that he would rather play for a club other than Barcelona because he felt he couldn't handle the media circus and the constant pressure by the fans surrounding the club? So now he's had a change of heart? Or could this mean that the transfer of Silva could be in doubt and Barcelona are looking for a Plan B? I assume that Barcelona are looking at Palacio as a left winger and not a centre forward because they currently have Eto'o, Henry, Bojan (and possibly Trezeguet incoming) at that position. And if Palacio could command as much, or near as much as Silva why would you go after him anyways? For him to be a viable option for me he would have to cost substantially less than Silva.

i still think Silva is better than palacio.Silva is younger and he's already European Champions with Spain...

for the future...he will get even better than now...jst look at Iniesta.

Iniesta+Xavi+Silva in the lineup....is more than enough to see them disguise n annoys opponents with their abilities...

for the pass 2 season...barca depended too much on the individual brilliance of Messi,Ronnie & iniesta which constantly held dwn-double teamed marked-triple teamed marked n so on just to get forward frm the midfield area, while xavi stucked in the middle- rarely gets a chance to go forward as much as he would have liked.barca has a unique tactical passing game which makes it looked beautiful...if this team plays the ball as a team consistently throughout the season...well...i do believe Barca CAN achive outstanding result.

Current Barca players has the ability to display devastating football....

and thats the simplest reason i LOVE Barca since i was a kid....
