Catalan sports paper Sport reports that Barcelona is intensely looking for central defenders and claims that the club is also following Getafe central defender Daniel "Cata" Díaz (28) (picture). The Argentinian player, who arrived at Getafe last summer, would cost 8 million euro°.
Fenerbahçe's Brazilian central defender Edu Dracena (26) is mentioned as being another candidate on the (long) list.

From the looks of it Barcelona don't seem as inclined to spend as much on a centre back(s)as they do at other positions. I just don't understand the logic of spending a bundle on a "world class" right back in Alves only to have a "second tier" type of centre back playing in front of you? While I understand that "someday" Pique may fill that role, currently he is not ready to step in a fill such big shoes. Perhaps that's why Barcelona is being more "thrifty" and just looking to acquire an "adequate" centre back to fill the spot for a season or two until Pique is ready? I just find it "interesting" that you haven't heard the names of Mexes, Vidic, Carvalho, Kompany,Lucio, etc. mentioned? And Garay seems to have dissapeared completely off the map.
