Guardiola wants Henry to stay

Asked about his future at Barcelona and the rumours saying that he could be on his way out after only one season in Spain (read more here), Barcelona forward and French international Thierry Henry (30) said in an interview with French sports paper L'Equipe that former Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola would want him to stay next season:

"Like I've said at the end of the season, I have three more years left, so I'm a Barça player at this moment. Now I'm focussing on the Euro, after that we'll see. But I've noticed that the coach doesn't want me to leave. Of course that pleases me cause it means that people see how hard I have worked on the pitch, even if sometimes that means I can't really contribute a lot in attack."

Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain said earlier this week at a press conference that Barcelona has no plans to sell one of the four players who were transferred in the summer of 2007.

I think this is very good news as well! Now Henry can put his worries aside and concentrate on the upcoming campaign. If he's 100%healthy and allowed to play in his preferred central striker position I think he'll have a banner year. Keep in mind that he's a player of great pride. And even though the comparisons to his previous Arsenal years were unfair, I think he's going to come out with a "chip on his shoulder" and prove to everyone that he's not a washed up legend and that he still has plenty left in the tank.

Anonymous, is really a shame that u seem to attribute any odd to Samuel Eto. Eto is player that has given Barcelona, fans including you joy over the past years and today eto this, eto that. How ungrateful people can be. But mark u, eto got plenty of football in his legs and if he goes, Barcelona will regret it big time just like Madrid. Shame to you anonymous

here's what eto'o took away as much as he gave to the club.. so I am not being ungrateful. He took away with his sour attitude, lack of sportsmanship, embarassing the club by making foolish public statements ( remember his off colar remarks in the championship parade) and in he generally disrupted the harmony at the club by making media outbursts and airing dirty laundry in public. I know he scored a bunch of goals but barca is mes que un club.. so players have to be mes que jugadores they have to be ambassador for barcelona.. and he was not a very good one.

Racism altitudes are deep in most of these white guys in Europe. I am proud that Africans are teaching football to you out there. I personally know there are a lot of anti Eto. Some of you have very large mouths talking ill of Eto performance. Eto remains a superstar in the world weather remaining with Barca or not. There is no 9 in the world better than Eto. I mean this. He is not the only star to express himself in the media about the poor performance of Barca this session. Barca has the worst and porous defense in any European team presently. Some of you are blind and never reflect on this as the biggest problem Barca is facing. We should continue to keep worst players at the defense because they are Spanish origin. Whenever Eto and Henry make tremendous effort and score goals, they are never defended to end. What do some of you expect form Eto? Do you think Barca is the best team in Europe?

Eto'o's skills on the pitch are unquestioned. It's his antics in the media and his disruptiveness in the locker room and general "atmosphere" around the team we are referring to! For all his "greatness" on the pitch he IS a locker room "cancer"! A "true" team player does NOT call out other teammates in the media! A "true" team player doesn't make comments referring ONLY to himself as in his comments about "leaving if this team doesn't win any silverware" etc. A "true" team player ISN'T a COWARD who ditches his teammates when they have to form the guard of honor in the Real Madrid game! But I guess its "OK" for his teammates to suffer the embarrasment of forming the guard of honor while Eto'o's back in Barcelona hiding like a coward! So, stop with this "racist conspiracy" theories and open your eyes! STOP defending this coward! It has NOTHING to do with the color of his skin!
