Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona defensive midfielder José Edmílson underwent successfully a medical check-up in Villareal on Monday. Although Villareal did not want to confirm or deny the information, the paper says that everything indicates that the Brazilian will play for Villareal next season. The contract of Edmílson expires at the end of the season and since Barcelona is not planning to offer the player a renewal, the player could leave on a free transfer.
Madrid sports tabloid As says today that Villareal already tried to transfer Edmílson during the January transfer window. Villareal would now have restarted the talks with the agents of the player and the only doubt left would be the many injuries Edmílson had during his period at Barcelona.
Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo reports that Villareal is indeed interested in the defensive midfielder. But although a principal agreement has already been found and Edmílson is delighted with a possible transfer to Villareal, the player wants to look at other options and wait until the end of the season to sign a final deal. Spanish local radio station Radio Castellón nevertheless claims that an agreement has already been reached.
At a press conference, Edmílson denied the medical and said he did not sign a contract with another club yet: "At this moment I'm totally concentrating on Barcelona and I don't want to hear anything about a transfer. The team performance is the most important thing now."
