Talks with Bayern on Lahm reopened

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain has reopened contacts with Bayern Munich on the transfer of Bayern Munich full back defender and German international Philipp Lahm (25).

Barcelona's technical staff has agreed that Barcelona left back Abidal will stay next season, while his current back-up Sylvinho will most probably leave the club when his contract expires at he end of the season.

Barcelona would now again like to sign Lahm, who would act as back-up for both right back Alves and left back Abidal. Begiristain talked with Bayern a few weeks ago and although the asking price is quite high, Barcelona is willing to make an effort if Lahm would push for a transfer in the summer.

would be nice but im not sure we need any defenders...

They want to sign him because Barca need a player who could match Alves on the left side. In that case, I'd sign Zhirkov. He would be cheaper option than Lahm and he can play left defender and winger. I think Bayern will ask something about 25-30M.

If we can get Lahm in the vicinity of 20 million Euros then why not. Zhirkov's handlers put a pretty high price tag on him as well and may take at least 15 million to capture.

I like the idea of using him as a backup for both abidal and alves, they both could need some rest. I say buy!

If it will only be for left back, I prefer Adriano(Sevilla), but because I demanded in "Do we buy:Defender?" a Maicon type of players, its not easy to find one, so I may end up understanding this gamble...

getting Lahm as a back up for both Alves n Abidal, then why not get him??? we dont have a proper back up for both full backs... so its almost like getting 1 player for 2 positions rather than getting 2 different players...
but the thing taken into consideration is that Lahm must feel comfortable to play 1 game in right back n possibly the next game as a left back... if he's fine with it, then its a great buy!!!

I like it. Go for it.

zambrotta was one of the best left and right defender on earth but he didn't fit in our system.

in spain you need to be strong like alves, you need skills like alves, you need a perfect pass like alves and you need to run more than in other leagues.

so zambrotta failed at one or more points.

lahm would fail, too.

he is good enough for the german league but not for spain especially not for barca.

so far every summer transfer (in and out) was correct. don't start doing mistakes please.

oh man, i hope i will not read "drogba case reopened" within the next days.

Although initially i pushed for Zhirkov coz i think he is very exciting player the problem of the non-EU spots might come up with him so that and Lahm's versatility make him seem a very good option.

what do you guys think about fabio da silva?

Anonymous said...

fabio is not as good as rafeal but we are barca why the hell not get both i think, given what i have seen of rafeal (which is a lot as an english person)they would not only fit our style but be furthermore fantastic assets.
As for lahm there is no way he will come to us to be a back up. no player would do that. although abidal is playing well get lahm to take his place

I think lahm would be great

Yep, i say it every time, i think lahm is hard working and would fit in perfectly at barca!!!

first of all. Why would one of the best leftbacks in the world willingly accept a "bench" position
when he could play first class futbol every game day for bayern. Yes, bayern is no barca but u have to remember that pro athletes in any sport want to PLAY. it would be cool to be on barca but not as a benchwarmer specially when he would be bench to abidal? Abidal was quoted in the begining of the season as saying he doesnt even think he should be in the club. I say STAY in Bayern lahm

Lahm is a very exciting player but would he accept 1 season on the bench or 'rotation' after which Abidal will probably be sold?? He wont be considered back up, more like a 'squad rotation' player. At 25 he is just about in his peak. Will he push for a transfer? I hope so but given he signed a new contract last season Bayern won't be letting him or Ribery go for under $20 million euro.

Who said he'd be sitting on the bench? I'd say Abidal is probably the one who'll be the reserve and Lahm taking the starting position on the left - if Alves isn't injured or being rested, that is.

I'd welcome him with open arms, he would be en excellent signing in my opinion.

why would Lahm accept the bench, a backup when he is a starter in GermanY?
If he arrive to Barça he will in my mind be first choice in the left back-pos.
BUt the pirce.. not more than 20-25.
We have other leftbacks who can match abidals shoes.
Taiwo,good defesive,good offensive.
Zhirkov must be the offensiv of them all. And Barça wants a offensiv leftback like Sylvinho and GIO.
So zhirkov, yeah, He would be much cheaper than Lahm to..

I think the argument "he won't come to be back-up" doesn't really count.

If you see how Guardiola is rotating and if he would be first back-up to Alves ànd back-up (or even on the same level as Abidal) on the left, then he would probably play as much as he would play as first choice on the left or the right.

he should come to be back up for both abidal and alves.

Indeed this player would be great addition to our defensive line. However, based on the quote written in the article above stating...

'' Barcelona would now again like to sign Lahm, who would act as back-up for both right back Alves and left back Abidal''

This the only understanding I was attempting to draw from this disscussion. Along with the fact that he just signed a new contract last season with Bayern, where he currently is a starter...

Besides, I'm not sure if he would fit in well with Barca style futbol. I would perfer to see Adriano from Sevilla or Zhirkov that kid would light up La Liga.
