Over the last week, Madrid players Casillas, Robben and Raul have also praised Barcelona, as have players from other teams like Sevilla's Palop, Valencia's Villa and Liverpool's Torres.

There seems to be unanimity in the football world that Barcelona plays at this moment the best football in Europe. But Guardiola probably wants us to remember only three words from all this: at-the-moment.

The best thing to happen to Barca is to lose to Espanyol and get kicked out of the Cup so we can concentrate on CL and Liga. Too many games, not enough depth. Injuries will come if we go for all three cups. We should be more than satisfied to go for the double instead of the treble, because, after all, let's face it, the Copa del Rey doesn't matter. No one is going to remember us winning this trophy when looking back at this great squad. It would be a shame if we lost out on the Champions League title because we stretched ourselves too thin by trying to win the Copa too. So this week and next I'm rooting for Espanyol.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You realize after Espanyol we would only have 3 games to play to win the Copa. Guys like Keita, Hleb, Bojan, Caceres, Pedro can't even get playing time and you're worried about 3 games? We could field all reserves for the semifinals and still do fine.

After going 2 seasons trophy-less, ANY trophy would be a welcome addition.

James, I agree that any and all trophies are welcomed. Plus, there is nothing better than watching our team play in form every 4-5 days

I'm not worried about the Copa del Rey. I'm worried about the CL semi-finals. (If we will get that far.)

Just about the dumbest thing I have ever heard anyone say is that they think that we could field all reserves for the semifinals of the Copa del Rey and still do fine, seeing that the opponents will be either Sevilla or Valencia. If you think that playing Pedro, Bojan and Hleb up front against Sevilla will break the best defence in Spain (excluding Barca's) then you are in dream land. However, I don't want to argue on this blog. That's not my purpose.

My point is that if you think I don't know what I'm talking about, then let's all come back to this blog at the end of the season and look at what I predicted above. Then we'll see who's dumb and who's not.

We may have no injuries now but wait until the heavy schedule starts taking its toll and a couple of our starters get injured. Then we won't be able to rotate as much and it could have a domino effect by tiring our first teamers so that they end up running out of steam towards the end in the Champions League.
Then you will be crying and left wondering how it happened that the best team couldn't win the most important trophy in club football.

I'm with BarcaFan in that I wouldn't be all that unhappy if we went out of the Copa, for the very same reason. We have 3 matches in about a week thanks to the Copa, including the revenge thing v Numancia.

The reserves aren't beating Sevilla or Valencia. Guardiola might be able to field a side of reserves and play defense-minded, holding position until the big boys come in. But that isn't his style.

I'd even give up the league in favor of Champions League, but that's just me. Personally, I think the league is done. With 19 matches left, we would have to drop 12 points, presuming that the second place side picks up those points. That just isn't going to happen, barring a string of significant injuries, which Guardiola has been keeping an eye on with his rotation system.

My guess is that nobody would fess up to it, but they wouldn't mind going out of the Copa in the locker room, either.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the winner of Espanyol/Barca playing the winner of Mallorca/Betis???

Thanks Kxevin.
One has to be reasonable about it. That's really all it's about.
I wasn't trying to be ignorant or stubborn about the whole thing. I was just trying to make an argument because in order to win the CL, we will need to be 100% every game in the CL, and I don't believe that you can be 100% if you are playing so many games and that's why I'm so concerned about it because no Barca fan wants to look back at the season and rue the fact that we missed out because of this. I know we have a great chance and I just don't want to see our team blow it.
I apologize if I offended anyone. Anyway, let's just enjoy the Copa games. Pep has made up his mind now. So, it's just best to get behind the team and support them.

guys...
are u sure tat we will be playing agnst sevilla or valencia in the next round??? i thought they were on the other half n would be meeting us in th finals only if any one of them progress...
can anyone tel me who we might be playing after Espanyol???

It's Mallorca or Betis in the semis if we go through.

So I don't see the point of giving up on the cup. Remember we played against Atlético (6th in the Liga, still in the CL) with kind of a reserve team twice and we won easily, so let's just keep this going!

Plus its the derby.. its the game against our other bitter rivals.. the same ones who played a major, major part in us losing the La Liga title a couple of years ago..

And the semi may not be difficult by any stretch of the imagination.. like fcbee said, we rested many players against Atleti and still won..

Playing three games a week is not all that bad.. we hammered Atleti after beating Shakhtar away..

trebble sounds WOW.. double sounds GOOD. Which ever we get is goin on my 6th Barca Jersey... TREBBLE 09 or DOUBLE 09. I couldnt be bothered really..its just that we are spoilt for choice.. do u want the trebble or double? ask them in Madrid and see how they feel. they would kill to win JUST ONE...

Yep, you don't know what you're talking about.

1. We play Betis/Mallorca. Sevilla/Valencia in the finals if they make it there.

2. Again, it's 3 games. I didn't say we would win by playing our reserves. I said we COULD play our reserves in the semi-finals...it's better than not playing in the semi-finals at all.

Your whole idea is that if we get knocked out by Espanyol, somehow we'll save our legs. That idea is absurd. If we make it past Espanyol, we can throw our reserves out and still have a decent showing without wasting any of our regular starers at all. We might not win, but it's still better than being knocked out by Espanyol.
