Advanced negotiations with goalkeeper Asenjo

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain has met a few days ago with Fernando Redondo, the agent of Real Valladolid goalkeeper and Spanish youth international Sergio Asenjo (19).

Since other clubs are also interested, Barcelona had already asked for a meeting more than one month ago but the appointment was then cancelled bacause Begiristain had to travel to Japan to stand by his sick brother.

During this week's meeting, there would have been found an agreement on some basic conditions for a transfer next summer.

Asenjo has a buyout clause of 5,5 million euro° and would sign a contract for four or five years that would include a year salary of 2 million euro plus incentives. Although there are still some issues left, the intention of both parties is to find an deal, with Barcelona being the first option for the goalkeeper.

Barcelona goalkeeping coach Juan Carlos Unzué has closely followed the performances of Asenjo closely over the last months and in an positive report he has recommended the transfer of the Spanish goalkeeper, preferring his transfer over that of Villarreal goalkeeper Diego López (read more

he didn't impress me against barcelona. 5m is a bargain though. 2m a year for a second goalkeeper without incentives! seems a lot!!i think he will go on loan if bought

it seems Valdes is asking to be paid as much as Casillas. 5million is certainly a bargain.

jordy

He couldn't do much against barca, the loss wasn't his fault at all.

Look at his game againt Real instead, he was outstanding there, truly outstanding.

Sell Jorquera and Pinto and buy Asenjo.

Asenjo will do well in Barca imo.

From what I've seen, he would be at good buy, however, as always, there is the matter of playing time.

But what I fint really interesting and worrying, is that Barca seems unable to make a move, without Txiki.
Contract negotiations are put on hold, transfer meetings are beeing cancelled.
Someone else among the front office personal, should be able to step in.

We want 3 gk's. I think we need to renew valdes however. Asenjo is still young, we cant expect him to be a first team gk for maybe 2 or 3more years. even casillas had to pay his dues on the madrid bench before he became #1. Hopefully he can make up for us missing out on petr cech those years ago.

asenjo will steal valdes position, count me on that,he is the next casillas for the national team.also with this buyout this transfer is a steal.

next year i hope we have valdes asenjo and the youth keeper we currenly have.
2 classy gks are great, the sub should be a youth to play some cup games

This would be one of the best transfers when you take into consideration the transfer fee, age, and potential. I think Asenjo will be one of the best goalies in the world if not the best and we could have our goalie situation settled for the next 10 years or more. He'll be world class and I think that we really need to buy him. We would be missing out big time if someone else snatches him up. If there is one keeper I would want Barca to sign, this guy would be it. I hope this report is true. Asenjo would be perfect fit for Barca.

what about Ruben mino?
if we buy Asenjo,he has no chance to promote.
personally, mino has bright future at Barca i think.

I hope we are able to get him quickly before Villareal. It is rumoured that Diego Lopez would also be leaving.

Asenjo looks to be very promising. I hope we get him on our team!

agree with skanjos

great buy n still young as anything!

coming to a organization like this and VV to watch from..there is nothing to say but even more improvement from this guy

He is the best young GK in Spain and arguably Europe. If you are talking about succession planning he is the ideal choice when as mentioned on here you consider the transfer fee involved. Valdes needs and deserves a pay rise like Yaya and Eto'o. Barca is forward thinking and needs to plan well for the future. This is a great piece of business if we can pull it off :-)
