Board seems to back Eto'o continuation

Asked about the situation of Barcelona forward and Cameroonian international Samuel Eto'o (27), Barcelona president Joan Laporta has suggested to journalists that, although Guardiola will have the final say, he would prefer that the player stays:

"Eto'o has great qualities, both as a player and as a person. I think now everyone has to add something so that the final decision will be the best one for the club. In the end our manager will have to make a decision because he has lived with the player and has seen that he has had a very positive behaviour. We'll annouce a decision soon."

Barcelona sports vice president Rafael Yuste meanwhile commented to Catalan sports paper Sport that the club could make a decision in the coming days: "This could also mean that nothing changes since he still is a Barcelona player with a contract. Eto'o is working really well with the group and my evaluation is very positive. But Txiki and Guardiola will have to decide in the end, although I repeat that we have seen that he's very involved and working hard."

If they lose Eto'o barca will not find forward like Eto'o , that is promise

Good!!Keep Eto'o, then next year sell Henry and buy Benzema to compete with Eto'o. Now all we need to sort out is the left wing position....

Let Eto'o stay and next season sell Henry and Eto'o and bring Aguero and Benzema! Forza Barca!!!

The translation is: Everybody we wanted has signed or is unavailable to us, so we're forced to stand pat.

It isn't the best solution, but Eto'o got his wish by forcing the board's hand by making himself unsellable. So the club is forced to keep a striker that it doesn't want to keep. Coach isn't happy, technical staff isn't happy, sporting director isn't happy, player isn't happy. Nobody wins, except the fans who want him to stay put.

The only "other" option left is to either sell Eto'o to a team like Chelsea, who can afford his salary, and then use that money to buy Berbatov which would be an utterly stupid move! It has nothing to do wether Eto'o is better than Berba or vice versa. Rather it has everything to do with Berba and Henry essentially being the same "type" of player.

If you don't want to add more "midgets" to your team, you shouldn't want to add players who are identical in style either! Berba and Eto'o WOULD work. Berba and Henry?...I can see both them sitting together in an outdoor cafe, Berba with a cigarette in hand sipping a Belvedere and Henry enjoying a fine Château Pétrus.

In the end, this will be the best purchase of the summer. Time will tell and all the doubters and especially Txiki and Laporta will see that keeping Eto'o was the best move in the market they made all summer long.

Actually, the best move of the summer will probably turn out to be the Hleb signing.

I'll believe the Eto'o move was good if he does something more than score goals in the Liga, and if we aren't left high and dry in two seasons, after he leaves on a free transfer, waving his middle finger at the Catalan night.

But by then there will be a new Barca president that everyone will be able to call stupid for letting Eto'o leave for nothing.

the back of the opponent's net is going to be the only entity not happy if Samuel keeps playing like he has been.

Cojonudo, In my opinion, all 3 of them are pretty similar with Berbatov using just a tad bit more body strength in some situations and being a little less reliant on speed and also preferring to score a good percentage of his goals from a little distance.

Otherwise, Neither of the three are like Adebayor, Drogba or Toni, i.e Mostly bulldozing into the box and shooting at random and comfortable as the sole striker.

Personally, i do not have preference for the likes of Drogba or Adebayor and i would anyday pick Henry\Eto`o kind of striker because i do not believe that a bulldozer will solve the problem unless a system is created around the bulldozer.

To them, i prefer both, in the box specialists like Van nistelrooy, Huntelaar or trezeguet or even highly skilled pacy strikers of the sort being comapred here (Henry, Eto`o, Torres).

I strongly believe in the skills of Henry and Berbatov. The goals they have scored puts any doubt about their skills out of my mind. So between Henry and Eto`o , I would rate Henry higher if they were of the same age. But it`s the age gap which makes a definite judgement difficult.

I hear ya BA, but Eto'o hasn't faced real competition yet. Let's give it some time, and some real matches. More importantly, some real, tightly marked Champions League matches.

Sid makes a lot of sense.

i salivate at the thought of an Arshavin/Torres/Messi front 3 with Xavi, Iniesta, Hleb, and Dani Alves supporting. talk about breaking goalscoring records...
