Not bad for 45 mins. :P We play just perfect. I hope we'll play that way when the season starts.

In response to the most recent anonymous, I think it's a bit from column A and a bit from column B. They do seem to be finding lots of gaps which indicates the defence is weak, but I'm impressed with the movement (even if we are losing possession a bit too much).

Henry still doesn't look right in our set up, but I think Hleb offers something in a role on a wing, even if his method still seems a bit unorthodox. Gotta love Dani Alves: it's like having an extra player on the park.

Valdes was absolutely horrible! The man has butterfingers. I believe NYRB had three or four shots on goal total and scored on two of those chances.

Hleb was very impressive, got to give the man his due. Eto'o was good as well, (should have had an assist to go along with his two goals had Henry's shot not deflected off the post.) Lovely through ball by Xavi for Eto'o's first goal.

Bojan should have found the back of the net considering the amount of opportunities he had in the second half.

Jeffren was active and showed flashes of how good he could become someday. Had a goal and an assist on Pedro's goal.

So far so good, but Valdes makes me VERY nervous.

Pedro isn't worth a fuck. Hleb and Keita need to get to know the other players a little better... seemed to be a little bit of miscommunication between them and the rest of the team. Caceras and Pique have looked a little shakey to me. Henry is too old... he will definitley miss matches due to injury this year. Eto'o has yet again showed why we should keep him. Valdes is losing my confidence... both goals were his fault in my opinion... the first more than the second. Gudjohnson is well... Gudjohnson... may as well be me out there. Jeffren needs more work before he plays with the first team. I think Busquets came on for a while and maybe touched the ball twice... no opinion on him yet. The rest of the team looked great...

Yikes! Anonymous, what game were you watching? The only player more brilliant than Hleb was Xavi, whose brilliance was enabled by Hleb and Keita's rock-solid stability at defensive mid. Yes, they will get to know the players better, but they were both exceptional today.

Henry should have buried the one chance, but the pass should never have come to him. Eto'o should control that ball first time and bury it. When he fooled around with it and passed to Henry, the hose-off was inevitable.

Very nice movement and passing from Henry, however. Iniesta was invisible.

That starting lineup would almost be right for me. I would keep Hleb, sit Iniesta and add Yaya. Done.

Dani Alves was spectacular, far better than he was in Chicago.

Valdes was distressing. Both goals were all on him. He has to make those plays.

What we've seen so far is that the lads can beat up on teams that aren't their equal. Now let's get some real matches going, so we can see how things really are.

Yaya for Iniesta? Yeah fucking right. And for the love of God can we get rid of Gudjohnsen already, that worthless turd of a twat can't do anything right.

In response to Kxevin... I didn't necessarily think that Hleb or Keita looked bad... I just saw some miscommunication on multiple occasions... two or three times I saw Hleb looking confused and frustrated. Same with Pique and Caceres... they all looked good over all, I just think that they all understandably need a little more time to gel. No explaination for Pedro though... Pep should stop wasting time putting him on the field.

Useless Valdes! Barca should buy a new goalkeeping now, before the season start! Valdes NO! Pinto NO!

Anonymous said...

I agree with the minor out-of-sync qualities, more of Hleb than Keita. I think that Keita isn't used to playing a true defensive mid position. He was very much an "attacking" defensive mid at Sevilla.

And yes, Yaya for Iniesta. The benefits for Xavi with Keita and Yaya on the pitch are immense.

Yaya for Iniesta? thats a fucking joke! when yaya came on he didnt do shit but give up possesion. Anybody wanting to blame valdes for those goals needs to open their fucking eyes and see that both goals were CLEARLY ABIDALS FAULT! good god, ive read every single post and not ONE fucking complaint on how Abidals sucks ass. on the 1st goal that stupid fuck was standing right in Valdess' way. MOVE STUPID! he saw the cross, saw Valdes coming out to grab it. anybody with eyes that work see the 2nd goal? Abidal stops marking his man like if the game had stopped! well the game hadnt stopped, in fact this stupid motherfucker stops markin his man for no fucking reason, then comes the cross that shouldnt have been allowed in the first place and the second goal comes thanks again to that worthless piece of shit!

i hear a lot of people calling for Gudjohnsens head, but i hear no one talking about how this fuck Abidal continues to prove hes not worth shit. Can we cut this worthless fuck already? I wonder when Guardiola is finally gonna notice that hes worthless and stops playing him. in fact, send him down to play with Barca B!

Anonymous said...

are you insane? it was at 100% the fault of valdes. both goals. he is very instable as he was the whole last season. there is nothing more to say.

Anonymous said...

ya both goals were valdes AND abidal faults. abidal has more responisbility in the second goal when he stoped marking his man .. that was realy strange
even if abidal take part in both goals , valdes is the one who should be blamed more , i wonder if any young goalkeeper could make these faults twice in any match

apart from valdes & abidals faults , team was great .. 4-4-2 plan realy works .. & when new players adapt the team we will play real TEAM work .. every player take part in attacking & defending .. defenders assist & score, attackers duty don't end when football is lost

guardiola's tactics are fresh, unused and promising. this barca is much better in teamworking than barca '07. and the manager also did a good job. i watched brazil 1-0 against belgium. ronaldinho played like a lamp. no movement. i'm so happy they sold him to milan. alves, hleb and all the others are giving their best. looking forward to barca's next game.

the worst thing is that we keep conceding goals in almost every match, that worries me.

A more pertinent comment on Abidal's performance, liberal use of f-bombs aside, is the noted lack of a real left back in reserve. Sylvinho isn't that person. Abidal played the whole match on Sunday, and looked dog tired then.

He looked tired again as the second half progressed. He did seem to stop marking his man on that second cross, probably because as a defender trying to save energy, you evaluate an attack and say, "The only way that cross could have any danger is if our keeper spills it, and nobody marks the man in the box." Oops.

Apart from all that, Valdes' culpability for the two goals verges on comprehensive. Could Pique have gotten over? Yes. Should it have been an issue? No. A world-class keeper such as Valdes controls that ball. He just flat-out missed it.

As for Yaya giving up possession all the time, I must have missed the match you were watching. Sorry 'bout that. The match I saw featured a guy, number 24, who played like a top defensive mid.

Hleb's arrival has caused problems for Iniesta, I believe. We'll see how the season progresses, but having Hleb and Xavi on the pitch at the same time has been revelatory. Anyone who watched the Fiorentina match, and saw how free Xavi was, while Yaya and Keita refused to allow Fiorentina to play the ball out, won't be surprised that Guardiola would like the Yaya/Keita/Xavi midfield.

Memo - there's no way that anyone other than Valdes can be blamed for the first goal... if Valdes couldn't get the ball, he shouldn't have called for it. The keeper is definitely making the call in that situation... Abidal had the ball covered if Valdes stays back. The second goal Valdes flops on the cross... should the goal scorer have been covered a little better? Yes, but Valdes should be expected to control those. I don't see Casillas making the same mistake. I must admit that I have always had a big question mark next to Abidal's name... he has admited to not being fit though. Yaya looked strong in my opinion...

Where the heck is Henry the lastcouple years, especially this pre-season? I'm sorry for you guys who treat him like a God, but he isn't ready yet. It's like he needs one or two more preseasons. Come on man, the gys isn't there. I expect to hear alot from Kxevin. As for Eto'o, well his football speaks a lot for itself. I don't know how many games that Kxevin has watched but Eto'o not good against competitive opposition...really now.Where have you been. When did you start watching football my friend. The is a reason Real madrid initially bought him, and a reason they were talking about him recently. There are also reasons why Jose Mourinho and other sides who are constantly competing against competitive opposition wanted him (Don't even try to mention this transfer season....) As for Henry, this is his last chance. No more excuses; Eto'o gets none. I mean Eto'o gets injured, plays non-stop after that for Cameroon and plays 16 games and scores 14 goals and isnt good enough. Henry plays crap and gets idolized and worshipped by you guys. mind blowing.

We've already travelled down this road before but it's worth repeating; Iniesta is not comfortable as a winger as it's not his natural position. We also know through game experience, that Xavi and Iniesta do not work well together in midfield. So if we still stubbornly choose to start Iniesta where do we put him?

I still believe that Iniesta is best served coming off the bench as "6th man" if you will to use a basketball analogy. Iniesta plays best in quick, short burts. He is not a "90min. man".

There is no way you can take Xavi out of the lineup so that leaves Toure, Keita and Hleb to fill the other two midfield spots. So far, (taking all the games played into account) Hleb has been very impressive. I'm not knocking Iniesta, he's a fine player, but where do you put him? Personally in my humble opinion I think he should either sub for Xavi, or split playing time with Hleb at the attacking midfield position. I just don't like seeing Iniesta out there as a winger just for the sake of getting him on the pitch.

Anonymous said...

What are you even talking about?Yaya is not out there to be contributing to the attack... he's a defensive mid. That's like saying Marquez adds more to the defense than Messi... no shit, he's supposed to.
