Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Tottenham forward and Bulgarian international Dimitar Berbatov (27) is the last name on the list of possible centre forwards whose transfer still looks possible.
With other candidates like Benzema, Adebayor and Drogba having dropped off the list during the last weeks, Berbatov seems the only chance left for Barcelona if they want to sell Eto'o and buy a new striker this summer.
Berbatov would have a lot of the qualities Guardiola is looking for in a centre forward: he can play with his back to the goal, he has an excellent technique, he's tactically strong, he has a good last pass, his personality will make him adapt quickly to the group and he's a team player.
Tottenham would ask between 25 and 30 million euro° for Berbatov, who is also wanted by Champions League winners and English champions Manchester United.

25-30 million euro =
39-46 million us dollar
20-24 million british pound
Why isn't Pavluchenko in the list?! He's a really good option as Adebayor and Benzema are not available.
Here are some reasons for why Barca should get Pavluchenko:
-He's got good pace.
-He is always willing to make runs
-He is good in the air
-He's got good skills
-He's got good shooting technique
-he can manage to play up front on his own which Barca needs their Strikers to do.(He showed this ability in Euro 08 with Russia)
I'm actually so relief that Chelsea kept Drogba. That's the best thing Chelsea did so far. It would be a waste of money to get him. He can't even control the ball properly!
By the way, I have nothing against Berbatov, he's quite good, I like him as well. But he is quite lazy. Therefore he might get isolated in the match because he needs to play alone up front in the 4-3-3 formation.
Just because he did good in Euro 2008 he has yet to prove himself in the big leagues against the best teams.
Berba is a much better option than Pavluchenko. Berba has is a quality striker(he has scored 46 goals for tottenham over two seasons)! And he can work as a target man because he can play with his back against the goal.
So woud preffer Barba over Pavluchenko any time.
barca nerd-fan what are u talking about? drogba is way better than berbatov and proven on the very highest level. i don't know much about pavyluchenko, have a good impression due to his euro performances though... but still, if these are the only options available , please don't be so dumb to sell eto'o and get one of these players!(berbatov would even be around the same price, which is ridiculous! berbatov is by far worse and not even younger!)...
You can't see Guardiola wanting a lazy player like Berbatov, it doesn't make sense.
I read twice on tribalfootball.com that Pep is still insisting to sell eto'o despite pressure from the fans. the info comes from mundo deportivo though, does anyone know how much is true about this?
Pavluchenko didn't only proven his ability in Euro 08, he also proved it in Zenit St Petersburg.
Don't you lot get it? I'm not saying Berbatov's not good. But I think Pavluchenko would suit barca more.
A little correction: he plays with Spartak Moscow. Arshavin plays with Zenit.
I think we all could agree that Eto'o is better than Berva, Drogba, and Pav therefore he must remain at the club. If the manager still wants to get rid of him, despite that and him displaying his immense goal-scoring threat this pre-season he would be proving that he shouldn't have been given the job.
Left wing forward????
Scoring Midfielder????
I get so tired of everyone saying Eto'o is better then Berba/Drogba/Ade. Even if he is he have totally different qualites. He is not the type of striker Pep is looking for and therefore he MUST leave and we have to buy a target player.
Why don't they sell Henry then and buy a target player? Then we have AND Eto'o AND a target player. And Berbatov is no target player anyway. Drogba and Adebayor might be but they're not available.
To the person who said that they are tired of people saying Eto'o is better, you should realise the fact that as he is he should be the manager's first choice. It is stupid for a manager to get rid of such a player for somebody who unproven. And, are you really that behind the manager, that you believe his 'target player' would be more successful at the club than Eto'o? Same qualities, more quality, different qualities, it's immaterial, coming off a bad domestic season, Barcelona needs great front man from day one, not one that would take time settling in or one that just might not be good enough for the league/team(meaning that Barca would have to bring in another player next year).
i have watched berbatov week in week out and he isn't the same type of player as the other targets. i've never seen him play as a lone target man, yes he has got good skills but he isn't a traditional no 9 that pep seems to be looking for. when playing for tottenham it was his link up play with robbie keane that made him look so good. not to even mention his attitude under martin jol he had the worst attitiude in the premiership - sulky, lazy and seemed like a spoilt brat. ramos changed that a bit but he is still lazy.
i think barca should push really hard for ade and see what happens as he is the best option, though it looks very unlikely. pavluchenko did look good and would be a lot cheaper leaving more money for LFW which is where we REALLY need a player.
I think we've already broken down Berbatov's game ad nauseum already. Suffice it to say his game more readily resembles Henry's than Eto'o's and thus Barcelona would be better served getting rid of the former rather than the latter.
Although neither one, (Eto'o nor Berbatov) would provide Pep the "ideal" target man he's after, their game would be much more complementary, than mirroring eachother as would be the case if Berbatov was to partner alongside Henry.
In theory that would leave Eto'o to do all the "grunt" work, (i.e. running) and leave Berbatov to smoke his cigarette, wait till the ball comes in the box and give it a lovely flick in goal.
So Berbatov might work, but only if Henry, not Eto'o leaves and we know that's not likely to happen.
Eto'o needs to stay, pep is looking for the wrong kinda guy, remember we didnt have eto'o for a long time last season which cost us a lot of goals, now with eto'o beginning the season completely recovered....he's goin to be amazing and already is in the preseason! Just keep him cuz on a scale of 1-10 he's an 11 and the rest of these options are 6-8's
I don't understand what gaurdy wants more then Mr.Sam. he's been finding the net and with ever "new" signing your team chemistry weakens where temas have to re-adjust players have to re-lock and be in-sync because of different styles of playing or adapting to the style being implaced. Eto's was the answer for years and he gets better every season so why are we still searching for what we already have..what we need is another show stopper with flash..When Messi gets the ball it's true ppl stand with anticipation of what he'll make of his run but its not like when ronnie was there and i think we need that back :( maybe find it in a barca b phenom or something someone to take on the whole 18yard box draw the goalie plus 3 defenders wide of the goal and slide acrosss for eto' or messi to tap it in.. Just my humble wish...
But recent reports are saying we will bring Berba as well as keep Eto'o. Henry really does not need to be starting anymore. Bojan can come off the bench, he is still only like 17. Berbatov and Eto'o up top is better than Henry and Eto'o, Eto'o and Bojan, or Bojan and Henry.
