Messi and Eto'o on Manchester City wish list

British newspaper The Guardian claims that Manchester City will try to sign Barcelona right wing attacker and Argentinian international Lionel Messi (21) and Barcelona forward and Cameroonian international Samuel Eto'o (27) when the next transfer window opens in January.

The new Arab Manchester City's owners would be determined to try to land a "world superstar" in January and have drawn up a list of targets, headed by Kaka and Lionel Messi. The other names that have been discussed are Fernando Torres, Carlos Tevez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Samuel Eto'o.

The Abu Dhabi United Group would be prepared to pay a record transfer fee of more than 80 million euro° for a top-name signing. The owners of the English Premier League club would sense they can make a bigger impact by signing a big name rather than acquiring lots of players.

A source who has been involved in the discussions is quoted as saying: "They are going for a big player. If they really want to be a big club and move to a new level they need to get a big player in and that would mean one of Kaka, Messi, Ronaldo or Tevez, because of his availability. Unless a player like that can be signed then it will be a struggle and the sooner it is done the better, which means trying to do so in January. Then others will follow."

I think signing Henry would make far more of an impact in England than signing Eto'o, so I pray they go for Henry and that with the money we get we not only buy a left winger but also renew Eto'o. Let's just hope Berlusconi's pride holds on to Kaka...

Man City will never be able to sign these big names in the January. First, Man City doesn't have enough reputation. Second, it has a very bad season. Third, it has a rich and ambitious chairman but has an absolutely low-quality manager. The big names and the ambition are too big for him. He just doesn't have the quality.

Do u think Eto'o/Messi will give up a team (Barca), that is among the favourites to get champions in every competition, for a team (Man City) that is supposedly in the mid-table yet currently fall nearly into relegation zone?? ridiculous

Real Madrid and Ajax have officially confirmed they have reached an agreement over the transfer of forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
The 25-year-old is going to cost the Bernabeu club €20 million up front, with the total fee potentially rising to €27m with additional clauses based on appearances and his levels of success with Los Blancos included in the deal.

To Josep:

I don't know if you realized it Josep but just like the rest of the world the amount of money you get as a salary is a very big if not the biggest factor when you choose where to work.

Man City can pay the biggest salaries in the world. Then there are some players in the world that still have some club loyality and prioritizes titles instead of money.

I hope and believe that Messi is one of the latter, Eto'o I don't know.

I hope they'll go for Henry. We can use that money in Ribery transfer, imagine Eto'o, Messi and Ribery as our attack force.

Marc
How stupid are you? No way i would sell Messi for 80 Mil. Sorry, but the currently best player in the world is priceless.

Refter
If you seriously think Man C will pay anything in the likes of 80 Mil for Henry you must be dreaming. His market value is more around 20-25 Mil at most. A declining star failing to perform to par.

3 billion and they're yours.

if madrid wanted to pay 100m for ronaldo and manchester said no even with ronaldo saying yes then messi is younger + better 300m and barca should consider it haha eto'o?? huntelaar 20m 25 years old still not proven at the highest level then eto'o is 70m ;)
