Barcelona still wants Portsmouth left back Belhadj

British tabloid The Daily Mirror claims that Barcelona is still interested in Portsmouth left back defender and Algerian international Nadir Belhadj (26) (read more here).

Barcelona scouts would have watched Belhadj during last week's Uefa cup game between Portsmouth and AC Milan and the club would now be ready to make a bid for the Algerian full back.

Belhadj joined Portsmouth on a season-long loan last summer when French club Lens, which he joined from Olympique Lyon in January, got relegated to the second division. Portsmouth would want to sign the defender permanently for 4,5 million euro°.

How good is he? I´ve never seen him play but 4,5 million euro sounds very litle!

Anecdotal postings I've read online say he's very good. He could potentially be a replacement for Abidal but at the very least give us a permanent backup and challenge Abidal at that position. This would also clear the way for us to part with Sylvinho (who we really don't use at all) and maybe make a tiny transfer fee from it.

I doubt it's going to be 4.5 million euros though. That's probably the price Portsmouth originally envisioned buying him for if his loan worked out. If we want him in January we probably have to pay at least 5-6 million to the club and a bit of compensation to Portsmouth. Just my guess.

instead of this guy we can go for g.bale who is as same as danial alves
he likes to go forward and all dangerous in free kicks.

Could be a good back-up for Abidal next season (while we also have Puyol and caceres to play there).

I agree groga.. I dont think we need a sub. for LB, Caceres showed some quality on the left, Poyol is doing great over there,
and Harees, Bale is great but, it's really difficult to play with two attacking backs because now, our LB is playing as third CB and if we have Bale for on the left, we will be left with only two defenders facing the counters, and for an attacking team like ours this would leave us very exposed, and also will affect our ability to go forward the way we are doing right now.

AM sorry... if this guys does the same as he is doing for Pompey, he WOULD bench Abidal.. I am one the few people who believe in Abidal but this guy's perfomances for pompey has been awesome.. I watch him every week...

I have seen him play and he definatly don't have what it takes to play in Barcelona. He flopped in Lyon and he haven't been very good in Portsmouth where for example Armand Traoré have been a lot better and is showing a lot more potential.

SimonP.. Tra whot? He pushed Traore out of his natural habbitat (LB) to LW.. Traore now play as no.11 for pompey.. Did you watch his last 5 to six games esp game Vs AC Milan? hes way better than Traora.. I wouldnt take Traore over him.. but hey. thats what you call "choice"

Belhadj is a good player. I saw him playing against Brasil and Argentina in friendly matches, he was fantastic. The reason why he asked to leave Lyon was because he was asked to play out of position with the arrival of the italian world cup winner Grosso.

Belhadj is by far one of the best in his post in the world.

I wouldn't wish him to play for Barcelone or any other spanish team, because as an Algerian international he wouldn't be treated to his just value in this country and wouldn't have enough playing time, something we don't wish for him because we need him in the Algerian national team fit and ready.

He should stay at Portsmouth so that we can carry on enjoying him, and for all his effort the englishs are by far coinnaiseur in football and they will treat him very well.

Treat him well, my ars. like they did to MIDO
Racist ********

MIDO had problem with everybody, including his national coach, team mate at the egyptian natinal team and the whole of gypte.

I like MIDO but I have to admit he is very difficult to manage, he is a character.

We shouldn't go as far as saying eaying that he was abused rascially...nonsense !!!

Naadir Belhadj is the best and I wish for him and his carrer to stay in England.
