Arsenal renewal or Barcelona move for Cesc

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has admitted in an interview with British tabloid The Daily Mail that he needs to renew by next season the contracts of some of his players, among which Arsenal midfielder and Spanish international Cesc Fàbregas (21), or risk them walking out of the club under FIFA rules.

When a player under the age of 28 has served three years of his contract he can now buy out the remainder of the value of his deal and leave under Article 17 of the FIFA Transfer Regulations. Cesc will have served three years of his current deal next October and would then be able to move in the transfer window of January 2010 for a transfer fee of around 20 million euro°.

The French coach says that Cesc's contract renewal will not be dealt with until next summer and admits that if the new Arsenal captain does not sign a contract extension in 2009, the club will lose all power to keep him from joining Barcelona:

"We will extend their contracts. Cesc we will do so at the end of the season. January 2010 is a long time away. It may come quickly but it's still a long time. If a player tells you he wants to leave, that he does not want to extend his contract, what can you do? If you say 'No, you don't leave', he can use the Webster ruling and you cannot stop him.

Or you say 'Yes, you can move', but you take advantage of the situation to negotiate a contract with another club. That was basically the situation with Hleb. He told us he wanted to leave but he wanted us to have a transfer fee, so I think he behaved correctly with us. But you have no real power to stop them from moving."

Asked about the constant rumours linking Cesc with a move away from his club (read more here), Wenger said earlier this week at a press conference that he is well aware of Cesc's dedication to Arsenal but that the Catalan midfielder will always be a target for transfer speculation: "I have no doubts about his commitment to the Club. The only problem now is that he has to say every three months he is committed to the Club because of the speculation."

I heard a rumour that Chelsea is going to allow Drogba to leave. I think it is the time to sign him. I think he is the player we lack. He is strong and excellent in heading. He can be used as a center forward whenever the opponent packs inside the penalty box or whenever Eto'o s not available. I think he is willing to sit on the bench and accept the rotation system.

Currently, there is so little chance for him to play in Chelsea. So far, he has only played 3(6)games. I'm sure he would like to play for Barcelona. I think if barcelona wants to sign him, he will put pressure on Chelsea for the transfer. The transfer free won't be high.

we don't need drogba, he is to old!!!! Our targets must be only Aguero and Fabregas! We must go for young talents! Drogba, Henry and other who are older than 29-30 should not atract our atention. Eto'o will play max 2 years on his best level, then we will need another good straker. But we must go for Aguero now because till then his price could badly change for us!

Stop talking bullcrap Turisimo. Players can be fantastic when they are 30+. Just look at Maldini, Inzaghi, Totti, Cruz, Crespo, Van Nistelrooy, Raul, Carragher, Deco and a couple of hundred more.

I can understand the advantage of signing young players but Drogba is exactly the kind of player that we lack.

Oh my... We don't need a diver. Sure, he's strong and tall, but that doesn't help when he falls any time someone comes close to him.

...to simonp...wake up babyboy...it seems you forgot that the most players you talk about got old at their clubs...why pay high for old?...what do you think drogba could cost,dreamdancer?...again,wake up...stop bullcrap'n...better invest in a young aguero, who's at the moment one of the best and plays NOR at a club from wich you can get him, before buying an overpaid oldie...no country for old men...

Drogba????

No way!! He wouldn't fit in our system. We need mobile forwards like Eto'o or Aguero or Benzema who keep constantly moving around and who can run at players. Drogba is a joke with the ball at his feet. Plus, I agree with the above comments that Drogba is too old. In addition, do you really want someone who can cause so much trouble inside the dressing room and who throws coins at spectators? We need either Benzema or Aguero, although I think that Benzema is the more realistic target due to the fact that we would pay dearly for Aguero. Plus, we have Bojan who will be the natural replacement for Eto'o. So I think that we won't get either Aguero or Benzema.

now's as good a time as any...his price is only going to get more and more inflated :/
he fills in the deco role, iniesta moves to the left wing, freeing up henry to play in the center. poifect.
