Asked about his preferred transfer destinations, Olympique Lyon forward and French international Karim Benzema (20) has said in an interview with French sports paper L'Equipe that there are several possibilities:
"There are a lot of clubs out there. Barça, Real Madrid, but also Manchester United and AC Milan. Those are all great clubs that make you dream. I like Spain a lot but in Manchester or Milan you can also make great progress. I want to play at the highest level, to be amongst the best in the world, so I have the skills to leave for a top club.
I'm comfortable at Lyon at this moment and the day I want to leave, I will talk with the president so he knows about it and that's it. He has talked about a transfer fee of 100 million euro°, certain people were shocked because that's a big fee but we'll see when the time is there. At the end of this season we'll see what will happen. I have a projet and that's it. I'm not thinking about the date of my transfer."

1. Nobody will pay 100 million for Benzema.
2. Milan's one of the cheapest 'elite' teams. They're not even going to bid over 30 million euros for Benzema.
3. Manchester may offer big money for Benzema if they don't keep Tevez. But Tevez being a fan favorite and a high work rate guy, they'll probably try to get him again for cheaper than the 34 millin pounds. They also have loan out Frazier Campbell waiting in the wings.
That leaves Barcelona and Madrid. There's only one team that's going to offer anything over 40 million Euros, and that's Madrid. I think it's likely that he goes to Madrid, though if Barcelona makes a 35-40 million offer, it'll be competitive. It's going to depend on whether or not Henry leaves after 2009.
True James, specially after Man UTD signed berbatov, it will be between RM and Barcelona.
Two things make Barcelona more attractive:the stability(it seems RM will have a big mess both managerially and sport wise this season),and the quality of players that act like assists generators (Xavi,iniesta,Messi,Alves,Yaya,..).
What make RM more attractive is: Financial offer (RM tend to offer crazy deals, Barcelona are more reasonable no mater what), and the lack of competition for positions in RM, or at least he will not face more competition in RM than in Barcelona.
So it will be up to the player mentality, personality and priorities.
SCREW BENZEMA....yeah I said it.. this guy and his agent are jerking barcelona and real madrid around..driving up his price.. one day he 'loves barcelona' and its his "favorite" club.. next minute he "wouldnt mind playing for madrid " and he loved them since he was 5.... I am tired of hearing from this guy.. . he is not the second coming of jesus christ.. he is not ronaldo or ( ronaldinho of old for that matter)... nothing about him would make you believe he is a legendary striker.. a very good one maybe but not necessarily better than all the other very good strikers.. zlatan huntelaar eto'o berbatov etc etc... Does anyone truly believe he will make us that much better ?
Look at us now.. our ist eleven has very few new players .. ( alves and thats it really).. and we are playing 100 times better.. I agree we will need a striker but.. I dont know if we need a 30 -50 million dollar striker... I was a big advocate of selling eto'o.. but he seems to have worked on his issues.. he's more mature and likable now.. and he is scoring like a crazy person... so why do we NEEED a benzema type.....????
Can we stop talking about this kid... its getting annoying.. every week there is a benzema story and we all know it will be 8-10 months before we can think about buying him.. so Please lets give it a rest.

Well Marc, the more i understand your frustration, lets not forget that its a typical Agent vs media vs Players vs Teams game, so its not only about Benzema, but its about any player:)
Let me tell you a secret (well not a secret but something happened 3 years ago), C.Ronaldo agent offered him to barcelona after his big problem with Roni and UK team in the world cup, which lead to national anger in UK.
Barcelona rejected him because their priority then was signing henry(they failed to sign him that year), so later C.Ronaldo started his story about RM and his dream teams, but its expected because on the long run his agent know that to keep him the best player in the world(on papers)he need to move to RM not to Barcelona where he will always be in Messi shadow, i can tell you lot of similar stories, so thats football life.
Regarding his price, football is going crazy, any quality player will cost that much, o we need to get used to pay 50M with a smile on the face.
Do we need him or not?This is another question, and its too early to tell, lets observe him for the rest of season.

Marc... I don't agree with you... I like Benzema and he just remind me of the young Henry, his style of play. And... He has to be better than Huntelaar... and I reond he is also better than Berbatov. It will be much harder for us if Benzema went Madrid. Benzema, Higuain and sneijder...
Marc mentioned Zlatan, I also like this one, yet i think it will be almost impossible to get him.
I think the team that doesn't win the league (Real Madrid) will get Benzema next season for two reasons.
1. They need new players and to invest big so they can try to take back the title.
2. Benzema would be the big star in a team that's going to start over and it will be a bigger challenge for him. Just look at Deco, he chose Chelsea just for the fact that they didn't win the title.
Simonp i am actually betting on early elections in RM this summer, that may slow down them a little, which is all what u need if u want to get this guy.
In the end, I think Karim Benzema will sign with RM this summer. Watching RM this year they look lost and don't look good even when they win.
The Spanish media criticize their back four but at the end of the day, this season will be summed up by RM not getting C-Ronaldo and losing the La Liga title to Barca.
With RM fans pissed (and embarrassed), Calderon makes a desperate decision and goes after Benzema guns blazing. RM will throw the bank at Benzema and Premier League teams (all in the red) and Barca (no need to break the bank when you already have Messi, Iniesta, Alves, Bjon, Eto (if he resigns) and Xavi) will be unable to compete.
Benzema will win more silverware with Barca (imagine Benzema, Xavi, Bjon, Messi, Iniesta, and Co - their youth and talent is scary), but no one will be able to throw the bank like RM. RM will over spend for one player (making the same Glacticos mistake) and lose to Barca again for the La Liga title the following season. Benzema will rot in Madrid and be forgotten as all athletes are only remembered for the trophies they win, and not the money they have.

Very true Ramzi, but another lost today by RM to a team that Eto'o scored four on last week is making Madrid very desperate. Like you, I'm enjoying it, and expect them to overpay for someone in January and for Benzema in the summer.

henry is probably too old now to learn spanish football. that could be his problem. on the other hand benzema is young and could adapt better. he has good shooting power and accuracy and we could use a player like that. but then wasnt bojan supposed to be eto's backup?
if benzema comes there will be sooo much competition up front. could be good...could be bad. cant say.
anyway for the time being the only reason y i would like to get benzema is to prevent madrid to getting him specially that they need sombody to replace ruud.
barca would really screw madrid if they do that. then madid would go for tevez who will not make much difference. he is hardworking but lacks some things. then ferguson will go mad. lolz..
so madrid just lost, valencia lost, lets hope villareal follows the trend!

I think that Benzema will sign for Real Madrid, and i dont really think he is worth that kind of money anyway. Very good in the French League but i think that he has a lot of potential, but not worth that kind of money.
Barca do need a striker of his capability though... strong, big, powerful and this kind of striker would complement the squad. I feel that Henry will be sold at the end of the season. I think that he is a great player, but not a winger. If he was played in the middle, we would see a different Henry but then you cannot leave Eto out as he is the ultimate goal poacher.
