Chelsea offers Malouda in Eto'o deal

British tabloid The Sun claims that Chelsea has offered Chelsea left winger and French international Florent Malouda (28) as part of a 22,5 million euro° bid for Barcelona forward and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (27).

New Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari would have made Eto'o his next top target and Chelsea is cofident to be able to reduce the striker's record salary demands by offering him signing-on and loyalty bonuses.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Eto'o prefers to join Chelsea, with one of the reasons being that he would like to team up again with new Chelsea midfielder Deco, who has been his team-mate in Barcelona over the last four years.

Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain said yesterday at a press conference that Eto'o and Ronaldinho have the club's permission to talk with other clubs but that there are no new events, admitting that a transfer won't be easy:

"We are waiting for concrete offers. I understand that it's difficult for them to reach agreements with other clubs. Once they have, the clubs can contact us and we can start negotiating but we certainly won't hurry things. We have to keep in mind that there aren't many clubs in the world who are able and willing to pay those amounts."

PLS, read my comment of article "Transfer summer 2008: Overview", 4 posts below.
Malouda + 23M € is not a bad deal since Malouda was bought year ago for 20M €. He wasn't brilliant during past season but was far from bad. It is obvious that Chelsea's style doens't suit him so well.
Now, if Barca had a smart board, they would convert those 23M € to Drogba's price and get both of them for Eto'o.
If Chelsea doesn't agree, offer them some 5M € more and that should done a deal.
R10 stays and becomes more serious in training and lifestyle because (after long time) he would have challenger for his place.
To all Malouda doubters, please, check this picture...

PLS groga, I was only reffering to his physical presence. And when you Google "Malouda" and switch to images this is one of the first results. I was pleasantly surprised because not many soccer players posses this ammount of muscles and definition and strong look.
As I said, his performance wasn't on highest level this season but his price tag is worth taking a risk. Heck, EVERY TRANSFER IS A BIG RISK. No difference to this one. Only future can tell.

PLEEAAASSEEE NO MALOUDA!!! this guy is one of the worstes winger in a big club and he was the worstes in the euros!! this guy is one of the reason why france was kickd out in the euros... sometimes if he is lucky he plays well in 1game out of 10!! Oh GOD BARCA DONT!!!

You people seem pretty unreasonable. Is it better to have 23M € and a decent winger with european experience and strong statue or just a 30M € (because, at the time, I really don't see anyone offering more for Eto'o) and don't have an option for left wing and have ego-tripped striker back in dressing room. Malouda can be a lot of things but he didn't bring imbalance or excess to any team he was playing for. I don't say he is best solution for Barca's left wing but can be used, expecially when he's offered as a price leverage. Just remember all Eto'o's arrogances during last season. Injuries also. "Black sheep" accusals, refusing to play and so on... Considering other options for left wing position, there aren't any at a time. Barca hasn't 2 months to negotiate and don't need another "169cm-but-technical-only32M€-winger".
This is a temporary solution, and being such, it is not disasterous. Realize that Barca may have just few more days to offload excess and bring some reinforcements.
I also agree with all of you that Malouda isn't long-term solution for Barca's first team and I never said different, but as a temporary solution, this is really not bad. Remember that also thins deal should be pushed ASAP because we still have unsolved midfield-attacking midfield posititon.
I will repeat, it is a risk but, at least, it is not so expensive risk in case it fails.
2 years ago, Zambrotta was brought in a a best right an left fullback in the world. Price - around 15M €. Now, that seems ridiculous.
Henry was brought year ago as one of the best strikers in history but his performance was all but historical. Price - around 25M €.
Malouda would be brought for around 10M € (leveraged) as a support for left wing until R10 recoveres or as a solution until next transfer windows if R10 fails to recover his form and he fails to produce a tolerable performance. With that being said, he could hardy be a miss.
Don't forget that he spend 4 or 5 years in Lyon and another 1 in Chelsea and his physical prepareness is perhaps better than any current Barca's player.
It may not seem so, but, right now, Barca is not in so good position.

hello pep, what has happened to silva and arsharvin? either or both would be better than malouda, if both might change my mind about this board!

Eye makes perfect sense. I'd take that deal in two seconds. We aren't going to be able to keep Eto'o. No way, no how. Sell him now and get real money, or wait until next year when we HAVE to sell him (or lose him on free transfer the following season....see Gio Dos Santos) and get peanuts.

Eto'o is a great striker. But there is a reason he isn't being considered part of the program by a coach who values a strong, unified locker room. One guess as to what that reason is.

Malouda works very well with Henry, plus you get a backup for Abidal, should he go on walkabout as he did at times last season. No, Sylvinho is NOT the answer.

We'd still need a striker, but we're going to need one anyhow. That one's easy, once the Eto'o complexity is solved. Malouda has pace, style and an eye for the attack. The English style didn't suit him, as has been noted.

Silva is just another talented midget. We already have plenty of those. And Valencia is being crazy about his price. We offered 30 million, and they said no. So they can get lost, I say.

I don't think Chelsea will be stupid enough to initially offer that deal...if it will b 15M+Malouda for ito, i may believe it, but this one sound too good to be true...
if it is true then...what the hell r we waiting?!!

I would rather prefer Drogba + 20mil instead. Basically you're swapping strikers and getting and receiving a little less cash in return but next to Adebayor, Drogba's the nearest thing to what Pep's looking for as that centre forward on the team. And maybe a fresh start, with a clean slate is what is best for both players and all parties involved.

If Abidal and Malouda could play together like they did in Lyon, damn. Alves and Messi in right and Abidal and Malouda in the left.
