Messi's father leaves Italy door open

Asked about the future of his son, Jorge Messi (picture on the right), the father and agent of Barcelona right wing attacker and Argentinian international Lionel Messi (21), said in an interview with Italian sports site Sportal that the player might end up in Italy one day:

"For the moment we are only thinking of Barcelona, which is like a second home for Leo. He wants to return to his best level after the injuries he had over the last seasons. But it's clear that playing in Italy is the dream of every player, including my son. And since no one knows what the future might hold, let's say that it's possible that this desire may come true sooner or later."

About a possible approach by Italian champions Inter Milan, whose president Massimo Moratti is known to be an admirer of the player (read more here), Messi's father suggested that there have been some vague contacts in the past: "Let's just say there hasn't been any serious contact. There's nothing concrete and I prefer not to add anything to that. But I repeat that things might change in the future."

What a terrifying thought to lose Messi to an Italian club. Hope it's never going to happen. ;)

I don't care if he goes... I'm very disappointed because Arshavin goes to Chelsea. Barca board are very stupid and I don't know why didn't they chase him. I can see post in forthcoming days at this blog "Case closed:Arshavin". Just like Ben Arfa, Modric, Ribery and the other flamboyant players. Barca board suck! Because of them I won't be Barca fan anymore (whole life I've been).

Anonymous, Barca's slogan is "mes que un club," or "more than a club," as you know. This means that the club (yes, I'm a soci) is bigger than any single player. If you love the side, support the side. Yes, the side can be wrong, but I would never, ever stop loving and supporting Barca because they don't get a certain player, or let a certain player go.

Every player can be replaced. Messi had his stupid moments last season, just as he had great ones. He was a lot better surrounded by an in-form Ronaldinho and Deco, for sure. Guardiola is trying to set up a system in which Messi doesn't have to take the ball at midfield and dribble into three defenders. It's too much work, and can shorten a player's career. Not good.

This is Messi's team. If he doesn't want it, let him go, and best of luck to him getting his ankles kicked out in Serie A.

Barca have done so much for Messi, from the medical treatments that helped him so much to bringing him along in the system. And he has done a lot for the club. If he wants to go, that's his choice.

And we have gone after Arshavin. But we aren't going to overpay for him, and we shouldn't. Alves will prove to be worth what we paid. He's the best right back on the planet. Arshavin is, so far, worth about what we offered.

But it's in Zenit's interest to hold a bidding war for him. That just means they have more money in the coffers. Chelsea, if the rumors are true, is willing to overpay. If we match or beat them, that makes us stupid because we're overpaying for a player. Chelsea has a history of that.

Now, we don't know for sure if Arshavin is going to Chelsea. If he does, best of luck to him, except when Chelsea faces off against us.

Sod off then, cretin. Yes, it's annoying on players we inevitably miss out on, and the forthcoming vote may even be something you can agree with, but YOU'RE MEANT TO BE A FAN REGARDLESS.

Does my head in..

the board have done a fantastic job this summer PERIOD.

The priorities at teh club were:

1) Hire a new coach with a firm hadn who understands the club and wont tkae shit from the players. I'd say they succeeded

2) Overhaul the medical department: it doesnt matter how many ben arfa benzemas or adebayors we sign .. if they are all going to get a muscle tear in january and miss the rest of the season we couldnt win anyway. Again.. the board succeeded in brining in a new medical staff and changing the philosophy of the training program.

3) Overhaul the squad.

3a) Overhaul the defense
3b) More competition for Valdes
3c) Sign a true centre foward
3d) sign a left winger
3e) sign a defensive midfielder
3f) get rid of bad apples

3a: The board has done superbly.. we have a very promising player at every position in defence and a new world class right back

3b) Failed : Pinto is not good enough
3c) They seem to be actively working on this
3d) Fail... none of the options ( not even arshvin and hleb) make sense. Silva is too expensive.. i say they failed
3e)umm.. keita... Id say they did as well as they possibly could on this one
3f) Incomplete: deco edmilson are gone.. they are working on ronny and eto'o .. things look good on this one.

I say the board met most of their objectives this summer and we are still not done yet... The board did a VERY GOOD JOB!!!

To Kxevin: I agree with you. But, if Arshavin says: Come and get me! - that means "I'd play for Barca because I love this club and I'll die on the pitch every game just because I wish the best for my club". And you know why - you said it my friend, Mes que un club... I'm not Catalan but I know what does it mean. Some players forgot about it and that's why Barca had a few trophyless seasons. They need players which understand this message. I won't quit being Barca fan, be sure of it!

Just because a certain player has a passion and a desire to join a club doesn't mean the club should feel obligated to sign him. I mean, who doesn't want to play for the likes of Barcelona, Madrid, Man U,? etc. That's EVERY players dream. If Barcelona signed every player who's dream it was to one day play for them they would have a 200 man roster! The fact that players such as Arshavin, Gomez and Guiza would love to be a part of the club should not be lost. But to sign them, even if they are not suitable candidates for the club, purely out of their "alleged" loyalty to the club makes no sense. Sure to have a strong desire to be here is great, but if your talent and skill is either lacking in quality or already filled at the club, why should Barcelona feel compelled to sign you? There is no greater compliment than when a club reaches out to YOU, not the other way round.

Marc and kxevin, very reasonable and smart stuff said in your comments. I agree with everything and would just change that "fantastic" in first sentence of marc's comment into "decent".
Above all, mes que un club.

hey before i start i'll like to say great blog, much appreciated :) and keep up the faith in barca truly inspiring.

I reckon this article is just another ploy from newspapers to undermine a players loyalty..

A lionel messi interview:

Your success has prompted speculations about a move to italy, england or even Real Madrid. Is there any substance to this?
'None whatsoever. I have grown tired of being asked the same question. In fact i now tell journalists before interviews that question is not worthy of an answer.Im proud to play for barcelona, this had been the only club of my professional career and the only club in my mind and my heart. There is nothing else to say'.

Barca have done soo much for Leo and even he acknowledges it all the time with every success or even failure, so why would he be contemplating to leave the club who he speaks so highly about?.

LMAO andd yerr the resemblence between him and his father are uncanny its kinda scary :S (no matta how much i love him :)lol).. btw im highly disappointed in leo's father i dunno why he would send that kind of message in a newspaper article when his sons words always contraict it..
