Arsenal ready to make new bid for Toure

British tabloid The Sun claims that English club Arsenal is considering a winter move for Barcelona defensive midfielder and Ivory Coast international Yaya Touré (25) (read more here).

Touré would be set to leave Barcelona after falling out of favour and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to bring the player to the English premier League since the French coach is looking to sign a proven defensive midfielder in the January window.

Arsenal already tried to sign the Ivory Coast midfielder last season but would then not meet the 18 million euro° price-tag. The transfer fee of Touré would now have been lowered to 7,5 million euro°.

Asked about his situation at the club, Touré has said at a press conference this morning that he's satisfied with the season so far: "I'm very happy to be part of a big club like Barcelona because the team is playing great football. Everything works fine and the coach knows perfectly how we have to play. We're all united and focused, so we can keep winning games like we did last weekend against Sevilla."

Is Touré vital for barcelona atm? I would say no. There are other possibilities (Busquets, Keita, Marquez).

Is he a superb player? Yes. But there's something that just isn't there. He strikes me as a bit clumpsy sometimes. And i would like to see someone more creative on that position, someone wit a bit more playmaking abilities with a great sense for crosses and those decisive passes that cuts through the whole field.

Is 7,5 mill a price we should sell him for? Hell no! I would say double it. He is still young, and he would fit PERFECTLY into premier league-soccer.

I am, for instance, very interested in what Miguel Veloso would look like i the barcelona shirt.

But maybe we need a heavy and experienced DM for those tough matches...

E7.5M Euro is ridiculous no way i know barca aint a selling club but we cud get atleast E15m for him an use the money to secure eto'o to a new two year extension on his current deal which to me makes perfect sense, personally i would sell toure in the summer as you never know with injuries an the such like! but thats if we sell him i would like him to stay he's young an still has alot to learn and has a great coach like pep to mould him in his image!

Is Peter a Barca fan? I guess u support Arsenal... jst kidding... This guy has come back into the team and has hardly put a foot wrong. He has covered the back four (3 wen Alves go foward),helped in attack when neccesary. I wonder Y fix it if its not broken.

peter you just described Xavi.

What you don't understand is that every team needs a solid midfield, and Xavi-Toure balance themselves well since Xavi is more offensive and physically weak, while Toure is more defensive and Strong, doing his job very well this season!

I say keep him, BUT, if a 15m or higher offer comes, i would not mind getting a new DM, but if we can't get a non CL cup tied player then i rather wait for the summer...

Does anybody know for how much we bought him from Monaco?
€ 7.5 is very low for such a young and promising player.
Although he does certainly have his ups and owns I would not let him go this winter. Evaluation at the end of the year and then see what happens.

We bought him for 9 plus a possible 4, which has already dropped to 9 plus a possible 3.

I can't understand why Barca keep on selling players so cheap while other teams demand huge amounts...
I wonder if Toure's sale is a part of Fabregas transfer to Barca..

Yaya is one of the most reliable DM at Barca and it would be mistake to sell him at this moment. Regarding the others playing his position, I think Busquets is not ready enough to face tough matches. Marquez is 30 yo and in a year or two he might go away. Keita is solid signing. So, what I'm trying to say is I'd like Yaya staying with FCB. He's still young enough and experienced enough to play both, CL and Primera. Talking about his price, 13-15M would be reasonable. Arsenal asked 17M for Hleb, and they want Toure for free? No way.

peter said...

Ha ha, this was a sensitive subject.
Im gonna do my best to focus the coming games on yayas performance, if he plays. Maybe i have underestimated his input in the team this season ;)

It's an English tabloid reporting, obviously it's going to do what it can to try to promote their home team's agenda.

Yaya has arguably been better than Keita and we only have 5 midfielders, 4 if Iniesta plays left wing. That means one injury and we're in trouble. How can you possibly believe we're selling Yaya. There's no way we'd go an entire season with just Xavi/Keita/Busquets playing in the middle.

Besides, 7.5 million? We're not that desperate. 15 million should be the price if we ever decide to get rid of him, and we don't want to this year, so unless we're getting an offer of 20 million I'm not even tempted.

On a separate note, I hope Madrid ends up paying well over 20 million euros for Huntelaar, hopefully closer to 30. It's all up to you Ajax.

My question is why sell him at all? What does he lack? Barca is a very attack minded team.. and yet we still want a DM mid who would attack.. and alves would always attack, and we still want Abidal out and buy a LB who who attack. I think too many people watched the ronaldinho Xerox advert. 11 Ronaldinhos on the pitch. U need balance like DAN R said earlier. Be careful what u ask for.

"Touré would be set to leave Barcelona after falling out of favour"

As soon as i read this i knew this story was BS. Yaya has started every important game in the last month and he has been stellar in all of them. Fallen out of favour my ass. The sun is about as reliable a source as my granny.

No way !! Selling him would be a big mistake especially for 7.5m, he´s worth atleast 15-20 .. I dont understand why these rumours won't stop, he's playing regularly at Barcelona, plus he's gained back his first team place from Busquets and he's doing a great job. Who will play those big Champions League matches for us ? Busquets ? Haha we need Toure, he's the correct balance for our midfield, he's a big match guy like we all saw last season against Man U .. DONT SELL PLEASE

The sum is ridicioulous 7.5 millions for Toure and 40 millions or smth like that for CESC ppl this makes me fuckin siick.

You ppl on this blog are ridicolous Pep should do smth be nnoot posting every comment in here im guessing now not every one is a real fan or not fan at all on this blog something different from months ago.

Thinkin that Toure is not needed or bullshit like that clearly those ppl have no idea what they r talkin about and that pisses me off.

He should never leave Toure is the best DM in the world way way better than any other possiblity that we have in our team for that position.

But, the board may consider a transffer for some differnet issues that I as a common person and others would clearly never know and never I repeat never would barca sell him because he is not good player.

This isn't really good news but it could work out for us.

Just read that Valencia is in serious debt trouble and are facing bankruptcy. That's not really good news for football but what gets them out of financial trouble would be to sell Villa, Silva or Joaquin like they supposedly had to do in the summer. Could this be an opportunity for us to snap up Silva while Madrid's too busy trying to sign Huntelaar and Di Maria?

Losing Silva would be a lot easier for Valencia fans to swallow than losing Villa or worse going into bankruptcy. Even though Silva has been out for most of this year, Valencia has had an excellent start to the season and with the likes of Mata playing so well they have not particularly missed Silva.

Note that I'm just speculating but it would be a huge coup for us to snap up a winger of Silva's caliber.

James, I was just reading the news aswell and had exactly the same idea! Silva would be a super adding to the team. And as a bonus he is Spanish.
With the possible down of some players as we see with Iniesta and Eto'o (5 yellows, and Hleb not completly shining on the Left wing spot, I would love to see david in that position. Let's see what happens here...

I'm really surprized that some people are taking these news seriously, It cant be true, simply, if he had an intention to leave he could have left last summer, at that time the future was vague for Barcelona and many major clubs were interrested in his services, but now? after barca proved to has the most promising future may be in whole europ? it would be total madness, especially if we knew that Arsenal is giving up the title race sooner than expected. and what does the "falling out of favour" thing supposed to mean? that was funny..
it's part the Sun's every day crap, January is comming up and these yellow papers have to find something to wright about, and for the english readers what is more attractive than linking a top class player to an english club??:))
and for anyone who is doupting Tore's contribution.. I would say that the DM is usually the most underrated player in the team, thats why they are used to be called the "anonymous soldiers"!! only when they are absent you miss them as you feel the team is lost on both defensive and offensive aspects.

Oh my god, I can't believe what I'm reading here from some fans.

Touré was injured last season and even then he was one of our best players.

The last 2 games he was simply perfect, when he keeps on like this there's no way a better DM out there.

A bit more pace would do him good, but he is coming back from a difficult back-injury and is only getting stronger with every game.

It would be such a shame to let him go, nevermind for this absolutely RIDICULOUS amount of money.

His market value in today's market? I would say ~25-30 mio. at least!

There's is no better DM in La liga if not in Europe. The Sun can go to hell

Anyone who thinks that Toure should not be part of Barcelona's team for many years to come is blind!! Sorry if I offend anyone but to let one of the best defensive midfielder in the world go is crazy. This guy is worth at least 30 million Euros and at that price I still wouldn't let him go. He is a vital part to Barcelona's success and if we want to be a force in Europe and La Liga in the future then Toure must play a vital part in Barca's project. Anyone even considering to let him go doesn't appreciate the importance that Yaya brings to this team. Together with Keita and Busquets, they are quickly establishing themselves as the best defensive midfield trio in Europe. They can be compared to anyone's defensive midfield. If I was a fan of any other team, I would be jealous of our team's talent in this department.

Also, I think that if the rumours by the tabloid are true and the Arsenal board and Wenger want to bid a measly 7,5 million euros for one of the best holding midfielders in the world, then I am insulted. To even have the guts to make that kind of offer is disrespectful and the Barcelona board should let them know accordingly.

Not to long ago I even considered the idea of making a deal with Arsenal for Fabregas in exchange for Toure plus cash but I no longer think that this would be in the club's best interest due to the fact how important Toure has become to this team. Barcelona should be fending off Toure's suitors in the same way that Martin O'Neill fought to keep Barry and the same way that Ferguson fought to keep Ronaldo.

To whoever said he was "clumsy". Compare him to a DIarra who is about the same size and you realize how good he is with the ball and how soft his touch is. He can dribble past players with ease, he turns on players and uses his body and leaves them trailing behind and hes not even that fast. Almost every single pass he makes is a smart calculated one. For me, hes is top 3 DM in the world, because he does not only smash and break plays up, but his touch, passing, and dribbling is just so good for a DM. Yet people continue to underate him but you would be the same people who complained if he did well with Arsenal saying, "OMG why did Barca let him go" blah blah. Maybe watch the games more closely and focus on everyone on the team not just Messi.

they should rename this story: Arsene Wenger's Wishful Thinking.

Yaya isn't going anywhere. maybe in a few years he'll join his brother at Arsenal, he's expressed an interest in playing with him before. but there is no way we would let him go and there's no reason for him to want to leave, ESPECIALLY for the kinds of figures being bandied about in this "article". 7.5m is utterly ludicrous and insulting. English tabloids exist to sell papers, not report accurately or even intelligently.

we know Arsenal are not very good this year and are suffering from lack of a real defensive midfielder, but they simply can't afford what we would ask for Yaya, and he has no reason to leave what is currently the best club in Europe for a struggling 4th-place side in England.

Peter's points, in particular, are ridiculous. i can only assume he hasn't actually watched any of our games for the past 18 months.
