Spanish businessman Juan Villalonga, who will be a candidate at the presidential elections of Real Madrid in 2010, has hinted in an interview with Spanish business television channel Intereconomía TV that he could go after Barcelona players:
"I want the best players at Madrid. There's nothing I would like more than Calderón getting the best Barcelona players. My favourite is Messi, and the second one is Messi. The third one would also be Messi. It's always a great satifaction for me if we take away players from Barça, like Evaristo, Milla and Figo..."
pep's opinion:
this is a first shout in the built-up to what will be another big transfer summer. if calderon survives, both barcelona and real madrid will have presidential elections in 2010. with laporta not being re-electable and calderon not being very popular, both races at this point seem to be very open, so it's very likely candidates will try to link up with players to get elected. players can do great business that summer. if i was cesc's agent, i would advice my client not to move next summer but to wait for the summer of 2010... last time the presidential elections at both barcelona and madrid were held during the same summer, in 2000, barcelona player luis figo moved to madrid.

what a tool!
Adding to that, I think the Calderon-Laporta mutual agreement not to make any attempt to sign players from the opposite side will end then - 2010.
Sandro Rosell, the strongest candidate for Barcelona presidency even after the last summer motion that may cause him damage if the team achieved titles till 2010, both him and the RM candidates seems to be more aggressive type in the market.
Next summer will be important for Barcelona, specially if RM entered the dark tunnel till then. It will offer Barcelona the chance to be the "attractive" option for the players in the market, if we got whom we need next summer then, let RM pick from the rest next summer and even for 2010 transfers.
Great point Ramzi. Lets get our targets, then the Evil Empire can have the scraps.
I will NOT be happy of Rosell wins the presidency.
Except from Rosell who else is going to run for president?
Nico, most probably the laporta camp will design a candidate, also last summer resigned members will have their saying, they actually resigned so they don't burn their cards early, still too early to figure out the candidates, because names will go up and down so much on the chart of popularity from now till then.
Jake, Rosell was not a bad option for me, specially for his contribution in Barcelona new era, he got the big credit for the signings that changed the team quality and achieved all what we enjoyed in the last 5 years.
Also one of his conflicts with Laporta was his desire to sack Rijkard when things went wrong, and I cant deny I was with that approach then, now was he right or wrong , thats really a big discussion and couldn't be simply briefed by "he was wrong, We won titles!".
But later, specially with the disgraced move to kick laporta out before the guy bounce back with the team, and after some of his "galacticos" hints, I am not so sure about him anymore.
Lets say I strongly support laporta, he is the historical president for me, he was there for the club in bad times (his family got thrittened for the radical changes and decisions he made specialy against the trouble makers in the camp)he and his board boosted the team not only sports wise, but also financialy and image wise.
Saying so, I will not support anyone who feel he can only win elections thru smashing laporta image.
as if he can steal messi from barca
Fuck off u fat double chinned fucker. RM = arseholes!!!!
Adding to that, I think the Calderon-Laporta mutual agreement not to make any attempt to sign players from the opposite side will end then - 2010.
why did they sign saviola then ????
We didnt want him anymore and released him. Anyone could get him after we released him.
Saviola's contract expired (and we didn't wanted to renew it). I'm sure they've already regretted that signing...
