Barcelona wants to close Xavi renewal today

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona will today hold a new meeting with the agent of Barcelona attacking midfielder and Spanish international Xavi (28).

The intention of both parties is that this meeting would be the last one and that, apart from the signatures, everything would be arranged.

With the club and the player both wanting to renew Xavi's contract that expires in the summer of 2010, the two would have found each other in the middle between their first demands. Xavi will receive a serious pay rise and will sign a renewal until the summer of 2014.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta would have forced a deal since he doesn't want the negotiations to go on forever. The president thinks Xavi should retire as Barcelona player and should get paid like he deserves, and wants the Catalan midfielder to focus on the game for the rest of the season.
