Schuster wanted Alves for Madrid midfield

Madrid sports tabloid As claims that Real Madrid manager Bernd Schuster had asked his club earlier this year to sign Barcelona (then Sevilla) right back defender Daniel Alves (25).


Schuster wanted to use Alves as right midfielder with Sergio Ramos as right back. If Ramos was needed in the centre, Alves would have been his back-up at the right-back positon.

The Real Madrid board didn't even consider the option and refused to start negotiations with Sevilla, which lead to growing problems in the relationship between the manager and Real Madrid sports director Pedrag Mijatovic and Real Madrid president Ramón Calderón.

If that would have worked this could indeed have been an interesting right wing, to say the least...

Although maybe too offensive and with two players who would have closed down the space for one another.

I bet Real Madrid are crushed that they missed out on this signing, because Alves is a top-class player who will really work wonders at the Nou Camp this season.

I'm hoping to get some Barcelona tickets and see him in action!
