Barcelona pushing hard for Adebayor

British newspaper The Guardian claims that Barcelona is preparing a final 38 million euro° bid for Arsenal forward and Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor (24).

A 30 million euro° offer made by Barcelona sports vice president Marc Ingla in London earlier this week was rejected. With the initial asking price being 45 million euro°, Arsenal made nevertheless clear that they are prepared to sell if the price is right.

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger was initially opposed to a move but the mixed messages from Adebayor and his entourage about the future of the player and the difficult negotiations on a pay rise seem to have burnt the bridges between the player and the club. Wenger is understood to be disappointed by Adebayor's attitude and doesn't want to hold the player in London against his will.

Madrid sports tabloid Marca meanwhile claims that Barcelona sources have confirmed that the club has not yet made any formal bid for Adebayor so far and it is not planning to launch a bid before Eto'o has left the club.

Asked about how things stand at this moment, Adebayor's agent Stéphane Courbis has yesterday said in an interview with French football weekly paper France Football that at this point all options are still open: "At this moment, no decision has been taken and everything remains possible. Because there were too many things written lately, the player and myself will not speak with the press anymore at this stage."

Why Barcelona would even consider a bid of 30mil for Adebayor is beyond me?! At that price Milan would be virtually out of the running for his services. With no other suitors interested or able to meet such demands, Barcelona would be in effect bidding against themselves! So to continually up the ante would make no logical sense for either club. Barcelona should make a firm, one-time offer of between 20-30mil for Adebayor, (if they haven't already done so)and if Arsenal rejects it, then move on to other candidates. Barcelona in turn should consider a 20-25mil + Abidal + Crosas bid to Lyon for Benzema. That might be an offer too good for Lyon to pass up. I would rather that Abidal stay, but not at the expense of missing out on Benzema. And perhaps a player such as Emanuelson might be a better fit for Barcelona in the end.

Benzema is staying put. Period. Aulas, when his mind is made up, is even more difficult to deal with than Sevilla's Del Nido. Benzema will be on the move eventually, but by then his price will be crazy.

Wages are going crazy all over the place, unfortunately. It's a player's market. Zenit want 25 million for Arshavin, which is a lot crazier than Arsenal wanting 40 million for Adebayor, a price that is essentially, "If you're dumb enough to pay it, we'll take it." I can't believe that we are, almost.

Now, I'm on the Adebayor bandwagon. I think he's the answer at central striker. So does Guardiola, apparently.

I just think that 38 million is overpaying. I could even see 30 for him. Almost 40? Then again, we're in for 30 million with Alves. Perhaps Wenger's logic is "Hey, you guys paid 30 million for a right back. Surely a striker is worth more."

Yikes.

why not get huntelaar for 20 mil. plz barca think long and hard.

I see your point but I don't buy into a possible Wenger "hypothetical" argument. Alves is either the best or second best player at his position in the world! That's a far cry from Adebayor who might not even crack the Top 10 strikers in the world! Just because Barcelona paid such a huge amount for Alves only justifies the fact that yes, - even though they overpaid - his talent suggest he's worth it. The same can't be said of Adebayor. Even if he's the "ideal" fit for Pep's system, he's not worth 30mil just to be a match maker for the club.

As for Benzema, I knew getting him would be a long shot. But what do you have to lose by making an approach? the worst Aulas can say is "NO"! I'm sure he's said as much in the past, but he hasn't been presented with the "hypothetical" offer mentioned above. At the very least he would have to consider it.

As far as "players market" that only works if the demand is higher than the supply - simple economics. But there's also the "cost/benefit analysis" to consider. Will spending "X" amount on Adebayor now yield a greater return in the future? If during his tenure the team captures a certain amount of silverware the investment could be viewed as a success. But there is no guarantee that will happen. So at what point is the risk? (price) greater than the possible return (silverware)? I personally think anything in excess of 30mil is not worth such a risk or investment.

This is madness!

What the hell does people see in this overhyped player? A bad first touch, lack of technique and constanly running offside.

And our board is prepared to pay +30 millions for him? Idiots. I really hope Laporta lose the vote of confidence tomorrow, I really do because they just went mad everyone of them.

"A bad first touch, lack of technique and constanly running offside."

That would be an appropriate description of Ade.

Barcelona is interested in adebayor but i dont know why because he is not good enough to wear a barcelona tshirt they need to get foward like roony, tevez, berbatov,el nino torres, imbrahimovic. They need fowards that deserve to play in the camp nou.

Make no mistake, I think that Adebayor is the best striker on the market. 30 goals in 48 games in the Premiership? When he was sole striker, playing against defenses organized to stop him and only him? That's seriously impressive.

C. Ronaldo had Scholes and Rooney to act as a foil. Adebayor had nobody. Van Persie spent much of the season hurt, Fabregas has a shot, but isn't really a striker.

Adebayor is the for-real goods. And remember, just two goals against Man U would have seen us into the finals against a very beatable Chelsea side.

I just think that the price is overinflated. But that man is more than worthy to wear the shirt. His first touch is better than Eto'o, he's bigger and stronger. He's also very fast, not just for a big striker. I'd sign him in two seconds, just not for 38 million. No way.

And this foray isn't sufficient reason to want our beloved club thrown into turmoil. Think about that one. Hoping Laporta loses? To a man whose only promise is to bring Kun Aguero to the side? Great. Another expensive, talented midget. Look at how well they did last season against a big, strong Premiership back line in the Champions League semis. Remember? No goals. Zero.

As for the names being offered, please be serious. Rooney is a bust and a hothead. Berbatov will be almost as expensive for less of a striker. Tevez? One more midget. Why not? Torres would be more expensive. Ibrahimovic would be an option were he available. But dubious fitness with his knee, and prone to disappearing. Benzema would be more expensive, and not as good.

I repeat: Adebayor is the best striker on the market right now, and that includes one C. Ronaldo. In a system that got goals for a stiff like Gudjohnsen, he'd go pichichi his first season.

I am really dissappointed in Barca's blindness regarding Eto'o's transfer to Chelsea. If that rumor of 23M + Malouda was right than why didn't anyone wrap up a deal that would include Drogba. His height is almost same as Ade's and he is everything that Ade isn't. Clinical finisher, extraordinary strong, have a great experience and continuity in EPL and CL. He's even not so reluctant to leave Chelsea neither they look so reluctant to let him do so (Real Madrid, Milan rumors, Scolari's statements...). That would, at least in my eyes, completely changed picture of Laporta's transfer activity this season. Solving three big issues with one deal. But with that missing, I won't have any regrets if he looses confidence today; in fact, that is exactly what I think will happen.

hey ade wastes atleast 5-6 good chances to score 1 ....etoo is best ..then if they wht to exch with chelsea player ask for drogba ..he is a top player who needs a half a chance to create one and finsh it unlike ade ...if we buy ade ..then we may suffer like last season hitiing the cross bars and wasting chances..!

Pep, please convince Barca board do not sign this guy.. he's worthless.. and keep eto'o! we are praying the god..

I dont seee why this guy is the most over-rated player?! Fair enough he's had a good season with arsenal netting 30 goals but hey even arsene wenger has commented on all of his missed chances.. i absolutely thing the asking price is ridiculous and i wouldnt want a player of that arrogance to even be at our club; after threatening arsenal he'll leave if he isnt paid like henry was. Honestly, he isnt even in the same league as henry was at arsenal. Considering he went to arsenal from monaco for 3 million we'd be stupid enough to contemplate there 40mill price tag, if we were to accept that then it will surely be our undoing. 'If' Ade ends up at barca next years news headline will be 'Ade: I cannot say no to such a big club like Madrid'.. LMFAO i wudnt be suprised, NO LOYALTY, NO SKILL and ALOT OF MISSED CHANCES.

if we want player who are committed to the club why the hell adebayor?
40 m is just madness. I would also go for the benzema deal with abidal and crosas. And why nog aguero. 30 m and marquez?jordy

I still say keep eto'..

do all these people who say he needs 5 or 6 chances to score realise he had a better goal to shot ratio then torres last season?

stop being idiots.

I think Eto'o num 1 problem is not getting on well with Ron & Frank! They are both gone (hopefully) so With Eto'o, Bojan, Henry, we are very fine. I would say bring in Bebertov rather than adebayor. I would get Villa b4 Ade.. Ade doesnt just appeal and to make it worse, the price tag is very irritating!!

this is ridicilous. 38 m for him is way too much money. he is not worth this much and in any case Eto'o is a much better striker than adebayor. i hope Barca comes to their senses and realizes that this joker isnt worth it.
