Madrid sports tabloid Marca reports that Barcelona player Lionel Messi (21) was supposedly caught by television cameras on Saturday spitting at Malaga player Duda without any apparent provocation by the Portuguese left winger.

"Doesnt look like he is spitting at anybody to me. Looks like he is spitting in the air."

Agree.

Looks like he is spitting at the ground to me. The guy is to his right, he isnt aiming at him.

I think you can't really see it, that's why I wrote 'supposedly'. You should see the images cause this picture could well be "optical betrayal".

The player didn't comment on it and the referee didn't put it in his match report.

Marca sure has found something to keep the attention away from the performances of Barcelona (and Madrid).

His head seems up, which isn't exactly what I do if I spit to the ground... But you should indeed see the whole footage.

Anyway, it was raining hard, there was lots of water to spit out!

Key words... "Madrid sports tabloid Marca"

MARCA = cheap A**holes.

That is so lame from marca... how low can they get?

LOL~! Marca again~ Isn't it amazing how closely they've been following our games? Maybe even more than a real Barca fan. And you can tell from this how much they hurt when they see Barca come to the top. Does that even look like he's spit at someone from that distance? Probabally he was just spitting when the two guys happened to show up there. Even the guy himself may not agree with Marca's BS. You have to be stupid and brainless enough to a certain level to believe what Marca says. I wish them keep on enjoying our games, and we're not gonna pay attention to the dirty things Real Madrid players are doing because it really doesn't worth our time.

no. 14 is nearlier to the camera than messi. it looks like messi is in front of no. 14. so he was spitting in the air and nothing else.

Let's not be stupid guys. I mean, if it was Guti who did it you would all say he spit at the player. I'm like the biggest barcafan but I can be honest. Messi is spitting towards Duda, but I don't think he hits. If you watch the video you see that he's spitting towards him, and that's stupid.

But why make such a big deal out of it? He didn't even hit and nothing bad happened.

Marca realizes madrid have a real fight on their hands, they are starting their propaganda war again. It was the same a few years back where they attempted to divide the barca squad at every turn.

If he really did that right, don't you guys think a bitter Malaga player Duda or whoever would have been like, lets tell the media or report it to the ref? Why would he keep quiet about it, especially considering they got trashed 4-1? Plus if something like that actually happned, we would see commotion on the field and some sort of altercation or backlash. This is pure nonsense.

well i watched it a few times on youtube and looking at pics and everything...i have to admit...it fully looks like hes trying to spiy on him.i luv barca and messi ofcourse but you gotta admit.
but then i realized something, when messi spits, dudas head is still a bit turned to him so he could still kinda see if messi did spit on him.(pause at 20 seconds to see whut im talkin about...)but i dont know...it really does look like hes goin for it.

(stop it on 20 secs at the right time to see what im talkin abot)

I don't know if he tried to spit on the guy or not. However in the future I hope Marca gives a detailed report of the game starting with the racist chants aimed at Samuel Eto'o through the entire game!!!

this is not how a sports man should react but its not his fault alone its also the referee fault because he let duda all over him we are humans and we feel pressure and pain. and messi is a human like us sometimes we lose it .
thats to his defense but also he should be fined and they should talk to the referee and give him classes or something .they pick on him so much and they do shit they just give them yellow cards retards i feel bad for barca's image .

I wouldn't start Messi for Rest+ disciplinary action (The video show he actual spit on the player).

F@!*% dUDA! and F*%#@ Málaga

I agree L.Messi is shown spitting in that direction...

However I dont see it coming close to hitting him

and ASLO - i dont see pushing and shoving that Duda and Baha did all game to L.Messi and Sergi Busquets. They also cant and dont show what was said during the match while they were on the pitch.

And what about all the crap and dirtay tackles they were putting on D.Alves.

Its like if you cant strip the ball from L.Messi another player defends him, then another, then another - you have 4 people on him - still cant get the ball. Then only choice they have is to foul him, and dirtay too...cause his feet are so fast, ends up always hitting the ground harder than anyone else. If I were defending him, I would too get upset with myself and end up knowing I have to beat Messi another way, cause he way to good to play one -on- one and just play the ball. Nobody wants to be schooled on your pitch in front of your home crowd. I 100% sure there is more to the story that we know.

Another !!!BIG BIG!!! reason I think Messi did what he did, was in total defense for S.Eto. Guess the Futbol world cares more about spitting than the racist remarks and monkey chants that Eto and others get wherever they go.

This is so Cr@p. Its just cause of who Messi is, how good he is, how modest and well mannered individual who never acts out this way.

I think Pep should say something and let him know his every move is now going to be under microscope. I dont think he should be benched nor apoligize.

Lot of emotions are let out on the pitch with these guys, the smallest dumbest thing can make the biggest headlines..just cause we are not there and dont know exactly what really happen before the actual incident happening.

cASE AND POINT - Z.Zidane in the World Cup 06 - against Italy.

This is futbol - people going to push, shove, say things, spit and what not. I think with limitations this is acceptable at times. But this racist crap - why dont they start pushing on making bigger cases on this...its just disgusting .

When I hear apology from the Málaga fans and board and staff - then I think Messi should make his formal apoligy and maybe MAYBE be benched.

Otherwise...SUX IT FIFA!!

RAMSI you are not correct this time!!!!!!
he spits to that direction but as A9 said if you look the video he is spitting if front of the player!!! and to his left!! not on him!!!! also duda is still looking at him so he would have react in some way!! and probably said something!!
duda in free translation said that every thing is fine with me and messi and nothing happent

that was not a clever thing from him but it is not punishable ether..

Players are sent off for intent.. without catching opponents when the try to tackle..
So, if Messi made attempts to spit on fellow pro, lets not "protect" him here. He was wrong. end off..

On a lighter note, a guy on sun newspaper (uk) posted a comment:
Duda should feel priveleged that a player of Messi's class has gobbed on him. Sell his shirt on ebay and he will make a fortune.
