French sports paper L'Equipe claims that AC Milan is interested in Barcelona defensive midfielder and Spanish youth international Sergio Busquets (20) and has already made the player a concrete offer.
The Italian club would have offered Busquets a salary that doubles what Barcelona has offered the player to renew his contract that expires at the end of this season (read more here).
Besides Milan, Busquets would also be closely monitored by English Premier League clubs Arsenal and Liverpool.
Catalan sports paper Sport claims that the first offer that Barcelona has made is far from what Busquets is asking. Someone from the entourage of the player is quoted as saying that the offer is just not good enough: "It seems that he is not allowed to ask a lot, but he definitely deserves more."
Barcelona has offered the player to stay registered as B-team player, which the player is willing to accept. The Catalan midfielder would receive a fixed salary of 300 000 euro plus incentives based on minutes played and trophies won with the first team (read more here).
Asked about the renewal negotiations, Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola said at a press conference on Friday that he thinks a deal will be found soon: "I know that Txiki and Josep Maria Orobitg, the agent of the player, will close a deal soon. I'm not worried about the effect that the talks can have on the player's state of mind."

Well if he doesn't renew put him in a dark corner somewhere on Camp Nou until his contract expires. Don't let him touch a football for a couple of months.
No but seriously I think that it shows that he plays for the money, not for the club and that worries me. Considering what he have accomplished 300 000 euro plus incentives is a very good deal. In Liverpool or Milan I can't even see him making it to the bench right now.
Personally I don't think it's about "playing for the money", it's about "getting what you deserve".
If other clubs are willing to offer the double, there's something wrong with your offer. Gudjohnsen is probably paid 8 to 10 times that offer...
If we give him a decent offer, he'll sure sign.
He'll surely sign till January 09. I'm more concerned about Eto'o renewal. He deserves lifetime contract.
The real question is what kind of football does he want to play. Yes he can go to Milan, and play fourth fiddle to the likes of Kaka, Ronaldinho, the durable Gattuso and Seedorf, for a side that won't win a Scudetto any time soon.
Or he can stay with the club that birthed him, for a little less money but playing football at the level that his talents deserve.
I do think that at some point, a player has to make decisions that aren't just fiscal. Think Dos Santos is happy at Tottenham right now, watching Barcelona highlights on his telly every week?
Busquets hasn't proven that he is worth real money yet. More displays by Yaya like yesterday's, and we'll be buying Busquets a book of conversational Italian our own selves.
Yes, players have to look out for themselves, but I think that loyalty is a key question here.
As for Eto'o, he's gone like the wind at the end of this season. He's having a "contract season," in which a player in the last effective year of his contract plays like a man possessed. It raises his value. I don't think he would sign a lifetime contract, nor would we want him to. Rare is the player (Xavi, Puyol, Messi, Iniesta) that you offer that kind of deal to.
