Medical: Messi has high injury risk

Catalan sports paper Sport claimed earlier this week that the Barcelona medical staff has warned about a high hamstring injury risk of Barcelona attacker and Argentinian international Lionel Messi (21).

Messi would only be able to play 120 to 130 minutes a week, combined with specific training sessions and a lot of resting.

Counting the game of tomorrow, Messi will have played 15 offical matches (5 at the Olympics, 2 World Cup qualifiers with Argentina, 6 Liga games and 2 Champions Leagues games) in the last 60 days, which is more than one game every four days.

No No No No No No No No.

Do NOT let him get injured (Again!).

Id rather see him play only important matches than injured on the side!

hmmmm.....i guess this is one of the reasons he didnt start against Shaktar. I hope he doesnt get injured, would love to see an injury free season for young Messi. He has yet to complete a season without picking up a serious injury and I am starting to worry that this might be a chronic problem.

Anyways, I hope Pep doesnt feel forced into playing him like Frank did last season. If there is any risk of picking up an injury i say play it safe and leave him on the bench against Athletico.

I don't think it is the truth. It is just a guess by the media. The media just wants to create rumours when a star was being benched. Pep just wants him to have a rest after he played so many full matches. It is the rotation system.

I should specify that the article dates from the day before the Shakhtar game, Josep. Which doesn't mean it's not a guess, but it's certainly not something they came up with after he got benched.

As an athlete myself, I can indeed tell you that certain types of musculature make certain types of injuries a problem. And once an athlete has a serious injury at a certain spot, that area is never 100% as it was, pre-injury.

If more advanced medicos is part of the Guardiola regime, it makes sense that they have identified this characteristic, and why Guardiola shouldn't be afraid to use him as a super sub. We should have the horses to win matches without depending upon little Leo.

This is no surprise... the club has known about his injury potential since they signed him... the initial concern was whether or not he would even be able to play professionally. It all stems from his growth hormone deficiency...
