Lyon interested in Abidal return

French local newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré claims that Olympique Lyon is interested in a return of Barcelona left back defender and French international Eric Abidal (28), who left the French champions last summer.

Current Lille manager and future Olympique Lyon manager Claude Puel would consider the signing of Abidal a priority. Puel, who worked before with Abidal at Monaco and Lille between 2001 and 2004, wants to play the Frenchman as central defender.

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona is not really willing to let Abidal go (read more here), although a meeting the defender will be planned to talk about Abidal's continuous complaints about the physical preparation in Barcelona.

Interesting that one of the strongest and most well-trained players in the squad (something he probably picked up in Lyon) complains of the physichal preparation. If his accusations is true then we got to do something and sign and invest in the backroom staff! That is even more important then new first team players. If the board does that then maybe Eto'o and Messi will go an entire season without long term injurys.

For such a prestigious team, Barcelona arguably have the worst strength and condition staff/program in football! Who cares if all they do is focus on skill and technique! If the players can't even make it onto the pitch what does it matter?! Without an attacking midfielder this team is still heavily dependent on Messi to create and do virtually everything by himself upfront. If he goes down for any length of time Barcelona can kiss their season goodbye! I just don't understand how you can have a world class club and a two bit training staff? Shocking!
