Guardiola convinced Marquez to stay

Barcelona central defender and Mexican international Rafael Márquez (29) has said in an interview with Catalan radio station Catalunya Ràdio that a meeting with Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola took away the doubts on his future:

"I had the chance to talk with him. He told me that he counts on me and I'm very happy for that. I have to admit that before the meeting I wasn't sure about what to do this summer, staying or leaving. But Guardiola has put his trust in me and I'll work very hard to translate that trust into performances on the pitch.

I am committed to the new project. I want to return to be the player I was two years ago. I'm always the first to be critical with myself and I'm aware that I didn't play well over the last two seasons. That's why I want to start the pre-season in good conditions, work hard and play a good season. I know that I still have a lot to give and I hope to do that playing for Barcelona for many more years to come."

Pfister Sheds Light On Eto'o Saga
Cameroon chief Otto Pfister has ridiculed Barcelona for wanting to sell Samuel Eto'o but is not worried about his star player's future since, according to him, Chelsea, Arsenal and Inter are all vying for his services.
»Comments (19) Print This Story Send To A Friend Contact Us galleria zoom New Barcelona boss Josep Guardiola has made it entirely clear that the Cameroon international is free to leave during the summer months, and the Indomitable Lions' German coach says it beggars belief how any club can afford to let such a top talent leave.

"Eto'o's goals against Tanzania [in a World Cup qualifier] were in a class of their own," Pfister told Kicker.

"I do not know why Barca want to let him go. It's incomprehensible!

"[But he's not on the streets?] No, no. He is the best striker in the world and can choose between Chelsea, Arsenal and Inter.

"Incidentally, I would like Eto'o in attack with Adebayor. I have trained both of them and know what the guys have. Because they would set the air alight!"

Eto'o, for his part, insists that he will not be rushed into a decision and has not closed the door to sticking it out to reprove his worth at the Camp Nou.

Let me repeat this again and again. it will be the biggest error if Barsa officials allow Eto to go. Once more you guys shall regret for the rest of your lives for having committed such an error.
