Pique still dreaming in blaugrana

In an interview with British television channel Sky Sports, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said he's delighted about central defender Rio Ferdinand's new five-year contract renewal, but seemed to suggest that this could mean that Manchester United central defender Gerard Pique (21) is on his way out: "Rio is on the point of signing a new contract and we're very happy about that. We always try to get everyone, all the players, on new and longer contracts. Sometimes we maybe slip but not often."

This last comment is seen as an indication that Gerard Piqué, who wants to play more (read more here), will not sign the contract renewal that has been proposed to him and would therefore leave in the summer. Cause with the stable central duo Rio Ferdinand-Nemanja Vidic, it doesn't look like the Catalan defender will get a fixed starting spot next season.

Barcelona would be looking at a return of their youth academy product (read more here). And British newspaper The Guardian claims today that Piqué, whose contract expires next year, is giving strong consideration to returning to the Primera División.

Piqué told in an interview with Catalan sports paper Sport that he feels good in Manchester but repeats that he wants to play more. The defender, who admits that he is missing life in Barcelona, says he has already received offers from several clubs, but he did not personally hear anything of the interest from Barcelona: "I read about it in the papers. It makes me proud. I am a Barça guy, I grew up in the club and played there for many years. I did not forget that dream of playing in the Camp Nou in a blaugrana shirt."
