The Dutch football association KNVB has officially announced that former Barcelona central defender Frank de Boer (37) will act for the next two years as first assistant to future Dutch national team coach Bert Van Marwijk, who will succeed current manager Marco Van Basten after the Euro 2008 and will have to qualify the team for the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. De Boer will combine his new function with his current job as Ajax Amsterdam youth coach.
Frank de Boer played for Barcelona from January 1999 (arriving together with his twin brother, attacker Ronald De Boer, after a heavy transfer dispute with Ajax) until the summer of the year 2003, when he left for Turkish top club Galatasaray. Frank de Boer won one Spanish league title with Barcelona in 1999.
