Negotiations with Drogba

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona has again picked up the option to transfer Chelsea forward and Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba (30).

Barcelona would already be negotiating with Drogba and has offered the striker a two-year contract with an option for a third year. The player wants a contract for three fixed years.

Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola likes the play Drogba offers: good physical presence, the ability to play with his back to the goal, a team player who can also score himself. The Barcelona board would see Drogba as a more high profiled player than Adebayor. Because Drogba reached the top quite late, the club thinks that the player has some more good years left.

Barcelona would be preparing to make Chelsea an offer that includes Barcelona forward and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (27), whose transfer to Chelsea was already discussed between the clubs a few weeks ago.

British tabloid The Sun claims that the idea of a swap deal was immediately rejected by Chelsea. Drogba, who has three more years left on his Chelsea contract, now wants to hold talks with the English Premier League club to sort out his future.

if eto'o should leave what would be a shame, drogba would be the best to replace him... he is world class and better than adebayor, huntelaar or whatever

Louis is absolutely RIGHT! Drogba IS quality! I guess some of you choose to have selective amnesia and forget the season he had two years ago. He was hurt much of last year yet still managed to net 6 goals in 11 UEFA Champions League Competition. And yes, he's 30, but it's a "young" 30 at that. He doesn't have the normal wear and tear that most players his age have. He's also a late developer so he's just entering into the prime of his career.

If anything I think he is a better player than Adebayor. The only thing Adebayor has over him is 1" inch and 6yrs. Drogba's is the more proven, seasoned player - and I don't think anyone can question that he shows up big when it matters most. Ok, sure, he pimped slapped a Man U player in the Champions League final I'll grant you that - but Chelsea would never have even made it to final without him! He's EXACTLY what Pep is looking for, - height, physical presence, 'target man' up front and he's one of the best arial threats in the world! Is he the most clinical player in the world? NO! Is he the most "beautiful" to watch? NO! Is he perhaps the most "powerfull" striker in the world? YES! So I wouldn't be opposed to a swap of strikers, Eto'o going to Chelsea, Drogba coming to Barcelona. And in the process Barcelona save 30+mil that they would have spent on Adebayor. This would be a GREAT move for Barcelona!

Drogba would be a good short-term solution, to sit tight until we can see if Benzema is going to develop into the striker everyone thinks, and to resolve the Eto'o situation.

But Scolari has said that Drogba is part of his plans, and is staying put.

So who knows?

Also, Chelsea laughed at the Eto'o for Drogba swap, so I'm not sure who's stupid there. I'd take the Drogba for Eto'o in two seconds. Size, strength, finishing ability, first touch are all exceptional. Yes, he's old, and you're basically trading one pain in the ass for another one. But Drogba would be nice for a while, because he's new. He would tear it up in La Liga.

But it will never happen. We'll nose around a number of strikers, and start the season with Eto'o, which in my book would be unfortunate, something like rebuilding the house but leaving the same leaky roof in place.

I'm completely for Drogba's strength and skill, but against his shitty attitude and diving.

NOUBARCA SAID.....

i used to think "kxevin" knew about football matters. How can he say Drog is better than Eto? If you are taking of atitude, Drog is worse, the things hes said about his coaches, club and other footballers. he can also dive, and hes less skillfull compared to Sammy. Y has sammy won the African player of the year more times and went higher in the world player of the year rankings? Open your eyes widely while matches are played. If you dont like sammy just say it.
