Zenit waiting for new Barcelona offer for Arshavin

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that a representative of Zenit Saint-Petersburg forward and Russian international Andrei Arshavin (27) has talked this week with the Russian club trying to reopen the negotiations between Zenit and Barcelona (read more here).

Zenit would have promised Arshavin that they were willing to wait until Barcelona raises its bid to 20 million euro°, the price that would have been offered by Tottenham. The club wants to take the wish of the player to join Barcelona into account but doesn't want to lose money.

The board of Zenit Saint-Petersburg has understood that no club will pay the initial asking price of 30 million euro° for Arshavin. The Russian champions have therefore accepted the fact that the player will leave for a transfer fee around 20 million euro°. Arshavin said to Russian journalists that he hopes the transfer will be finalized in the next two weeks.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Dennis Lachter, Arshavin's agent, was in London on Thursday to hold talks with Chelsea about a transfer of the Russian player to the English Premier League club.

Hope they will sign him soon. It's a celestial bliss to find such loyal players.

he is our last sing...i think he will be very good at barcelona because he really like to play here...go for arshavin and etoo must stay...

p.s.
i think they must let messi ti the peking because if they not he will be very unhappy and he can leave camp nou..i cant imagin that...tahat will be a very big disaster..

They have to let Messi play in the Olympics because he's an under-23. I'm sure we'll give the move our blessing, for player goodwill.

After the Hleb signing, I'd rather give someone such as Assulin a shot on that left wing. It's a risky prospect anyhow, so you might as well keep the risk cheap. Assulin is definitely talented, the only question is whether he's ready for Liga duties, kind of like Arshavin.

Keeping Eto'o would be a mistake, fiscally and on the sporting side. If we want to progress beyond the Liga. We can't win in Europe with Eto'o as our central striker. He isn't big or strong enough, absent an on-form Ronaldinho and Deco.

Fiscally, he's in the next to last year of his contract. Now is the time to sell. Next year, he is really cheap because of the free transfer danger.

sign Silva or Hernanes instead him....KEEP ETO'O PLEASE CUZ THERE IS NO BETTER STRIKER IN THE MARKET....

Well, Pep prefers Henry to Eto'o, so Eto'o has to leave. We NEED a big striker, otherwise the crosses Alves makes, will be useless.

If Zenit drops their price down to 15mil only then do I think Barcelona should consider the deal. The longer Barcelona waits patiently the more likely Zenit is going to steadily drop their asking price until, if a deal is struck, both clubs will meet somewhere in the middle, (17mil)? although I still feel Barcelona could get him for 15mil flat, if they sit on their hands.

One of the best comments I've heard so far on this forum. Just one more reason why Drogba makes sense! Adebayor could too, but not for 30+mil. Barcelona could swap Eto'o for Drogba and not spend a penny instead!

With the 30mil they save they could get Arshavin AND Pavlyuchenko. Pavlyuchenko in a role of "70th minute 'target man'" would be ideal. He's tall, a lanky 6'3, can run for hours, and his fresh legs could cause problems for a tired, worn down defense that's been punished by Drogba for the last hour and change. And the arial threat would still be in effect even if Drogba's not on the pitch. So Alves and Co. could still make crosses inside the box and it wouldn't affect Barcelona's game plan.

20m for a left winger of his class is an excellent deal. hopefully we take it.

shame on zenit for thinking they can cash in on him.
i think he's quite talented, hungry, and apt to prove himself. barca should sign him already!!

I don't know if Barca should sell Eto'o or not. I still have the love in this player. It'll be good if Eto'o comes back to his best form. But it'll be a risk. Also, Eto'o's contract ends next season, so there might be a risk of a free transfer. I think Barca should try to buy Pavluchenko and Silva.
