First meeting with Caceres

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona sports vice president Marc Ingla and Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain met yesterday afternoon in the 'Juan Carlos I' hotel in Barcelona with Daniel Fonseca, the agent of Recreativo Huelva central defender and Villareal loan out Martín Cáceres (21).

Barcelona wants to bring in another centre back defender who can play alongside Puyol during the first months of next season when Gabriel Milito will be out due to an injury. Cáceres would be one of the main options. This is confirmed by Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo.

During the meeting the contract situation and the wishes of the player were discussed. It seems that the Uruguayan defender would be very interested in a transfer but that the fee could be a main problem, with Villareal not willing to let Cáceres go for less than 20 million euro° (read more here).

But since the defender belongs for 50 per cent to his agent, El Mundo Deportivo claims that Fonseca could choose to just keep that part of the ownership which would mean Barcelona should only pay 10 million euro° to Villareal.

I wouldn't pay more than 10mil Euro for him. Even if the Caceres wanted a move to Barcelona why would his agent "stiff" himself from half his cut? I have no clue about agent negotiations and contracts but just on face value, this doesn't make any sense to me from the agent's perspective. Maybe somebody can clue me in?

Buy him Txiki, ASAP! We missed out on Garay, and Cáceres is imo the most talented defender alongside Garay and Fazio (the tall Sevilla dude, awesome defender too).

Great guy, could be an awesome combination with Piqué in some years.

I think they ment that his agent could keep his 50%, so Barça only pays half the amount (the 50% of Villarreal). If Barça sold Cáceres later on, his agent would get 50% of the money (or keep his rights again).

Yeah, or his agent can say: "give him a contract of five years and pay my share of 10 million in four slices, the first slice int he summer of 2009".

Which would give Barcelona more time to pay, would make a happy player and would give the agent a foot between the Barça door
