Txiki...regardless of what those who mix "football manager"-the game, with "football management"in real world say...u r doing resonably well man.
of course their has been mistakes, but there will always be,anytime there will be that much work to do, its easy to say "sign this" "sell that"...but being the person enroulled is never easy.
We want the right players FOR THE RIGHT PRICES, we have a squad that has more depth than any other team i can remember, some more flavours would b good, but we r not in a very despirite position to accept being abused.
If Txiki would be mjatovic(or however u write it)or Laporta being calderon, they would be already buying Arshavine for 25M (and may b plus incentives), now i believe 17M can seal u a deal...and i believe it will b a reasonable price for him, little bit more than reasonable, but keeping in mind how crazy the transfer market is going, i believe it will b a good one.
of course when i say that, i dont exclude some other options but i believe only scouting reports can say for real who is the best option to be snapped.
yea i know Txiki will not read this...but Some other people will;)

Thanks Pep, Deco's performance for Chelsea was excellent today finishing off with a goal from 25 yards. Did Barca make a mistake letting him go? Especially considering that the search goes on for another midfielder.

Great job here pep. Visit it several times daily and am impressed with the consistency of updates!

GMJ..no, deco needed a change of scenery. Had we kept him i dont think he would have performed for fcb the way he did today.

I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say that I think Barcelona's pretty much closed up shop for the remainder of this transfer window. Even if we all somehow came to the conclusion that Arshavin was a good fit for the club, we would equally agree that his hefty pricetag does not justify such an investment.

Even though Zenit has recently lowered their asking price, it is still very unreasonable. For proof you don't need to look any further than the fact that there are only two teams interested in his services, Tottenham and Barcelona. If other clubs felt Arshavin was worth the price they would have been beating down Zenit's doors by now, leapfrogging over eachother trying to pry Arshavin away.

I still believe "we" will be a much improved team largely in part to additions on defense. True, scoring at times was a problem, (especially when Messi was out) but I believe that had just as much to do with playing too much of a horizontal "possesion" game rather than a implementing a more vertical, direct attack. So far, even though it's early and only preseason one of things I've noticed is Xavi aggressively moving forward. Wether this has something to do with the addition of Keita or Pep's more "direct" style of play is still unknown, although I suspect it's a combination of both - having a stronger frontline defense that will allow Xavi more freedom to roam and move forward, and allowing Xavi to push the envelope and provide constant pressure on the defense so that they can't all collapse around Messi like they did during Champions League play.

I suspect our defense and goalkeeping will be the key to us regaining La Liga title and going deep into Champions League play rather than a lack of offensive execution. With Samu, Henry, Bojan and Messi we should have more than enough firepower to challenge the elite. Now if we can shore up getting killed on counters, and provide Valdes with a solid pair of hands we should be ok.

Not getting a first class left winger is a risk. Sure, in some games Henry or Iniesta or Hleb can play there, but in others you'll miss a real winger (like we saw last year when those first two guys played there). Hope they can make a move before the transfer period ends. Go Txiki!!!

Hey,Pep! And hello,my fellow Barca-fans! I´m from Norway and i have followed your blog this summer. It´s really great. I have been looking for a site or blog that keep up with themes inside and around Camp Nou for a long time. The way you write about Barca Atletic and keeps us up to date about the talents is very very good. Keep up the goos d work,Pep!!

we do need a true left winger (the Gamper showed that), and Arshavin is the one. go get him Txiki; don't take no for an answer.

Zenit appear to have gotten stupid again. Even Spurs have moved on. Interestingly, both Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho didn't think that Arshavin had the stuff for top-flight footy, based on their careful evaluations of him in Spain. That might have something to do with the world not beating down Zenit's door. Both voices are very influential.

If Zenit is, as Tottenham says, sticking to its 25 million valuation, it's because they want the player to stay put. And the player doesn't want to stay put, which is why he's on strike.

I can't see us getting him now. Heck, we were willing to bid 25 million for the likes of Silva, who is tried and true in La Liga and on the international stage. We still don't know if Arshavin is the for-real goods. At 15 million, it's worth the risk. At 25, Zenit clearly doesn't want to play with the other kids.

I agree with Mark on Deco. Sometimes players are energized by a change of scenery. He was one. I think that Ronaldinho will be another one (for a while). But both were done in Barcelona for a number of reasons, not least of which is that whole half-life of a superstar signing, that is usually about 3 years, unless the player is home-grown.
