News of the day - Thursday

(This post will be updated throughout the day.)

Capel is now the main left wing option for Barcelona (As)

The presumed interest in Capel would be organized by Capel's agent to get a salary rise, Capel doesn't fit the profile Guardiola is looking for (Sport)

Deco type of player is what we're missing... If Guardiola thinks Hernanes would be an option, go for it!

Its funny how each story contradicts the other.....Capel is the favourite, then he doesnt fit what Guardiola wants. Everyday its something different with Arshavin.....and now Hernanes....I wish they would just sign a player already and get it over with!

likewise ohh, am tired with all dis crap, just wish barca sign whoever they want and let d great season begins.

Guardiola got rid of Deco and now wants a "Deco-like" player? He's a smart one!

papers from madrid say capel is close. catalan papers seem to point out arshavin. for once i hope the madridistas are right!

I think Capel's agent (the brother of Sergio Ramos) has better contacts with the Madrid papers... ;-)

wonder how reliable the sport article is about neves, if its true would be a damn shame as it will probably be one of those occassion when in 3-4 years time when neves is one possibly one of he best players in the world costing around 40 mil we will regret not getting him.
i cant see capel being a regular starter more of a bench option to provide width just hope they get neves or look at di maria

A Deco-like player? Do we really need someone who gives the ball up every other time he touches it?

remember all these stories are just speculation. I only believe stories that are published on the FC Barcelona website.

The only possible credible piece of information I filtered from much of this speculation and inuendo is that it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Capel's agent was using Barcelona as a crutch in order to substantially increase his client's wages or in an attempt to restructure his contract.

Knowing the type of person Del Nido is I doubt he will flinch and most likely will call the agent's bluff. Sure he would rather keep Capel, but one meaningless, "friendly" performance isn't going to make Del Nido frantically reach for his pocketbook either. Rather, if Capel states his desire that he wants out Del Nido will hold onto him until Barcelona coughs up his buyout clause AND additional taxes (as with Keita) and not one penny less!

As for some of you who might feel "sympathetic" over Barcelona raiding Sevilla for three of it's players keep this in mind, €64.6mil; that's the number Barcelona will have doled out for Alves, Keita and Capel including Alves' incentive clause. So excuse me if I don't shed a tear for Del Nido.

Last but not least, according to this latest speculation Barcelona seem more interest in Hernanes than Neves at this point. Makes me wonder just how interested Barcelona were in Neves in the first place and if his latest "antics" at the Olympics did anything to change the club's mind? I would find it unlikely that they would turn their back so quickly on a player due to one incident. Which leads me to believe that Barcelona were not so "hot" on Neves as most had initially thought.

As far as Hernanes goes I personally feel it would be a waste of money. We already have enough "mids" and no, Hernanes is NOT going to be the next Deco so we can all stop dreaming. The club should concentrate of a left winger and a young goalkeeper would be nice and leave it at that.

when Albert Jorquera got injured in the middle of last season, i thought "yes!" this is the time when barca will dig for a young talanted keeper to get secure on the long term, even when José Manuel Pinto arrived, it was obvious that he will b a short term option, but now both keepers got new contracts its unlikely barca will get a forth keeper this season, its just unpractical to have two keepers over 30 as back up (who r not competetive enough)...at least they had to keep one of them and sign a younger keeper instead...i am not sure if they r betting on any keeper to come thru their youth ranks but its unlikely too...

That is our biggest weakness.....the keeper. Now that is not to say that we dont have a good keeper. Valdes is a good keeper, but he is not world class. In every position on the pitch we have a world class player...in some positions we even have a world class backup for the world class starter.....but when it comes to the keeper I think we are lacking. We should have at the very least bought a young talented keeper who maybe one day could have taken over from Valdes (Ustari and Neuer both good options). As many great saves as Valdes makes (and he does make a few) there are quite a few "incidents" as well. This we cannot afford.

As for Hernanes, I would have to agree that we dont need another midfield player and I would hate to see Iniesta wasted on the left wing. I think right now best value for money is definitely Capel.

Nice post Cojonudo. Ditto on everything you stated.

Come on Pep, make your mind up. Get Thiago Neves or Arshavin. But not Capel because he is a madrid fan, plus he's those 4-4-2 left winger who only do crosses and doesn't really score. We need a left wing attacker who can Cross and score at the same time... Arshavin, Neves.

Ther are so few left wingers available and I think we really need one!!! Do your work and surprise us, Txiki!

fc_barca said...

We dont need a Hernanes type of player, we already got players like Xavi, Iniesta, Keita, Hleb, Sanchez that can play on that position. We really need a left winger and i also agree we need a young talented goalkeeper who can take over from Valdes in a few years(maybe even this year if Valdes disappoint to much) as for left wing i think Neves is THE best option we should go for him without a doubt and i dont know why everyone keep saying Capel is a madrid fan, he played in our youth ranks so i dont think he will be madrid fan but i wouldnt like to see him come because he will be nothing more than a bench warmer while Neves could be a regular starter and as of goalkeeper i think Ustari, Diego Alves, Remy Riou, Marcelo Grohe would be good options

i wonder if the board considered bringing back ricardo quaresma and play him as the left winger. he said he would never play at barça again if rijkaard was still there... but he's gone now so i think he would be a good option. porto realized they would never get 40 million euros for him so they reduced their asking price to 20-30 million

fc_barca said...

I have a question.. now that Pedrito and Sanchez are promoted, will their shirt numbers 27 and 29 change to 17 and 19? because those numbers are still free

fc_barca said...

yes we forgot all about him Quaresma would be a good option too, hes better and more experienced than before, i think he really proved his class at Porto, if we could get him for around 25 mil i think its a great deal we should go for either Ricardo Quaresma or Thiago Neves if we cant get them we should get Angel Di Maria or Diego Capel

Jnice said...

Capel played in our youth for like 2 weeks then left because he was homesick or whatever. That doesn't mean he is not a Madrid fan. It just means that there was an opportunity for him to play for a great B team and he took it.

Anonymous said...

We need just Quaresma and nobody alse please pep Ricardo deserves second chance

Jnice said...

Everybody thinks we are playing fantasy football. We just need so and so. Nope, sorry. Not everyone fits into the plans of the team just because they can run down the wing. Pep is obviously taking a lot of things into account and will sign the right player for the team. You have to realize that even right now, he has to balance a lot of egos and what not because of the depth we have. We have a lot of players on the bench that can be starters and feel they are starters so one more big name player is one more headache as well. We do not sincerely need another player as much as we want another player. Our squad is solid as is and people should be satisfied with that.

I do agree with you ,well I know what a strong man Pep is but can he afford putting this kind of players on the bench for along time? we have lets say 6 or 7 MF and we are playing 4-4-3 and we need Hernanes ??common!!

hmm..if we get a left winger that would put the polyvalent iniesta in midfield making midfield stronger.

if we get a new midfielder iniesta will cover the left wing very well..

the question is which one should we get? midfielder or left winger? maybe that depends on where iniesta or hleb plays better.

i think guardiola knows that gai or alcantara could fill in but will he wait another year to strenghen the squad with them?
i dont think so.. that if we do get a new player where will gai or alcantara fit?

any more player we get today will be surplus next season..i think guardiola knows that...

but IF we are going to sign more players hernanes will be the best option because he dribbles better than deco and defends well.

i dont believe in capel. once ur madrid ur madrid. his heart is in madrid...i say hernanes..
