Neves or no one!

im guessing neves isnt an option then? have you heard anything pep? surely sevilla wont let us take three of their best players in one transfer window, plus do we really want a madrista in our beloved team? starting to think that it may be better to stick with what we've got if the only options are capel or an excessively priced arsharvin, would really like to see neves but..

Nothing new on Neves, sjp.

hmmmm still no word on Neves......i have a feeling though that nothing would happen till after the olympics anyways. Lets hope Argentina knock out Brazil tomorrow so that we can get cracking on Neves. I think out of the options available he is the best in terms of talent, potential and cost.

i dont understand them.
capel is only 20 years old, and if bought should be considered a long-term investment, but with the promising youngsters such as jeffren, pedro, gai, or others it is rather stupid to make such a move, because i believe some of them as the potential to be better then capel, who isnt that all of a good player if you ask me, or just not enough for barca.

I wouldn't mind capel. You think because there are promosing youngsters you should buy older guys. capel is very good. the matches against sevilla last year he impressed me most! 16m is a bargain so why more expensive players?? Long term investment???? Neves is a long term investment, he isn't use to european football. Capel is!

To be honest as much as i like Neves i can see why Guardiola wants Capel. He would provide proper width down the left, something that we are severely lacking. He may not be as technically gifted as our own youngsters but he is a different type of player to Jeffren, Pedro or Gai. He is more of a Guily type player and will definitely provide some variety. Last season the problem was everything always went down the middle. Now with Alves we have more width on the right, which gives us more options. If we can get the same sort of width on the left then it is going to be very difficult to defend against us even with 10 men behind the ball.

I dont see Neves playing LW at all. He is attacking midfielder, in CENTER mostly...Like puting Van der Vaart at LW just coz he shoot and is left footed...Maybe I am wrong, but I watched few Brazil games and he is everywhere except LW...For me is better to bring in Huntelaar, more tactical variations... Henry, Iniesta, Hleb, Pedro, Jeffren and Krkic can play at LW.

I saw Capel at the Amsterdam tournament. He is ok but i think he is very predictable. He is too one way for me. Buit I hope he proves me wrong IF and only IF we settle for him. Neves would do a good job. And with the young guys coming through we wouldnt need to over spend on anyone we are bringing in as Titi knows he would play on the left again.

Arshavin and Neves would be the best choice. Capel will still be alright.

By the way, Why don't Barca search for another keeper as well? Valdes is quite useless.

To be fair there must be a reason why Barcelona currently aren't showing any interest in Neves or are playing it close to the vest.

Say what you will about Capel, the bottom line is that he has experience in La Liga, albeit limited and Pep has seen what the lad has to offer.

Even if Neves is thought to have a "greater upside" than Capel there's no guarantee how his game will translate in La Liga. Keep in mind that Neves hasn't been exposed to top flight competition on a REGULAR basis, nor has he had to endure a season in a premier football league. At least we have a point of reference with Capel, a body of work if you will. The same can not be said of Neves. No doubt Neves is a talent to be sure, but with Capel you get a better sense of what you're getting. In the end I choose to give Pep the benefit of the doubt and trust his judgement.

I agree with Cojonudo, both Capel and Neves have their advantages and disadvantages. I would trust Pep and be happy with whoever he selects for this position. At the end of the day only he know what his plans are and from what I have seen so far we should have faith in whatever he is planning!

I think it's a bit harsh to say that Valdes is quite useless. It's true he had his flops through time, but he have improved a lot. And last season was not because of our keeper. It was many times puyol, toure, abidal etc. all the defenders who mistimed headers.

To add some more i believe Valdes saved us from losing quite a handfull games with his saves.

It's always a difficult position to play. But to say that Valdes is quite useless is wrong in my opinion.

Even though a worldclass keeper would benefint the team, no doubt about that. But Valdes is a good keeper. Not worldclass, but good.

Iniestar u r right...yet I was hoping barca will snap one of the raising talents in goalkeeping from italy, france or even spain, there are lot of options...
Capel was in barca youth and was told he is surplus of requirements so he left...he then said he is a RM fan...i think he is good and can be a compliment to iniesta/henry/hleb combination on LW, he play it wide, they cut inside, that will offer tictical options for pepe...but still i am not sure how understanding will barca fan be with him...and how many times he will pay the tax of saying once he support madrid.

Yea i agree that a new young prospect keeper would be nice if we could get one in the future. I really don't know anymore about that left wing. I would have been glad if silva had joined. It should be a player who only played left. We have enough players who can play all positions.

I didn't know all that about capel so I'm not so sure about him. But i like his pace. He would be a great supplement in the contra play.

What will ever happen with Arshavin, for me it just sounds like the player wants to play in a top euro club and having Barca as his favorit. I only watched him play in the Euros and heard he was good in zenit. So i don't know that much about him.

Neves have i only watched on youtube and seen he scored in Olympics. Probably a very good asset.

All 3 players could fit in, but actually i prefer Capel after Silva. But i can also see the current team make it through the season. And then we can try to sign a winger in the winter window if nessecary.

I had a feeling that this would happen. They spent too much time looking for a centre ofrward now there is little left to acquire a player for the more important position to fill.

While Barca does have a good squad, as far as that position is concerned both Henry and Iniesta played there last season, and that was unsuccessful. And Hleb would not be as good as somebody who has made it their natural position as he lacks the necessary goalscoring ability.

Although i like capel a lot i don't believe that they will be anymore signings and most of these stories are only made up in order to sell newspapers... Maybe some will say that i am stupid but the facts saw that every year barca buys players early on the transfer windiw in order to do the whole preseason... And moreover the fact that Guardiola keeps using pedro, jeffren, bousques clearly suggests that some of them will be given first team oportunity so why buy a whole new player???????

...think there's another good player for the left-or-right wing...dirk kuyt...he impressed me much in games i saw him...think he would be a good choice too...lungs like a horse and the bite of a dogg...why not go for him...

Anonymous said...

Best news for me.What do you think about D.Capel Pep?F.Salam.

Jnice said...

Dirk Kuyt? Don't be silly. Now what Barca needs at all. You can be a hard worker but you need some skill too.

Anonymous said...

wOW! D.Capel. THAT WOULD BE ACE! he def. IS 1 OF THE TOP PROMISING PROSPECTS BY FAR. HIM AND ALVES ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE PITCH!

Capel is an interesting possibility. I'm still thinking that three players from Sevilla is a lot. Can't believe Del Nido would be down with that.

Neves would be floating roughly where Ronaldinho did. Capel would provide actual width. Don't forget the hell he raised against us last season. He was a little one-dimensional last season, but we have a lot more weapons. Hard to mark just him.

Vin49, don't forget we got 17 goals and 20 assists out of Henry, mostly on left wing, last season. That's a hell of a season for most players, but admittedly an off one in the typical Henry context.

If we do sign Capel, do we then platoon Henry and Eto'o? Dunno the answer to that one. But with a real left winger, Henry becomes a complexity, and a rather expensive one. Or is it a 3-3-4, with Henry/Eto'o/Messi up front, with Xavi/Yaya/Keita-Hleb-Iniesta in the midfield?

You have to have Messi in the lineup, and the way he's playing right now, you have to have Eto'o in the lineup.

Yeah, I know. Kxevin, I am a fan of Henry. However, what makes a player most suited to a position is not how well they do in easy games; when the team are at its best, but when it is struggling in difficult/tight games and is dependent on productivity from that area.

Anonymous said...

Kxevin - just to be accurate.. Henry had 20 goals and 11 assists in 48 total appearances in all competitions.

I'm looking at ESPN SoccerNet for the stats. Where are you looking? (Interesting)

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/stats?id=8039&&cc=5901

I'll buy that argument, Vin49. But I was excoriated when I dared suggest the same thing about Eto'o. :D

So I'm just going to leave it, suspend my one-man Henry Fairness Committee, and say that last season was a mess, but this one is full of promise, based on pre-season excellence from one and all.

I agree with InieStar. It's a bit harsh to say that valdes is useless. However, you can't deny that barcelona is too big for valdes. Valdes is a good keeper bit not good enough for barcelona. In my opinion, he can sometimes save some extraordinary shooting. Nevertheless, he is not a consistent player. He also makes very silly mistakes quite often compared with other big clubs' keepers. This is particularly true during big matches. He is not a player who enjoys big matches. I will never forget the goal concealed in the match with Liverpool in champion league. Valdes can't even handle a harmless, powerless direct free kick from Liverpool. He held the ball nicely and steadily but landed the whole body inside the goal. What a silly mistake. Barcelona just deserves a better keeper. Valdes is a keeper suitable for a good club but not for one of the top clubs in the Euro. Don't forget that Valdes is not even in the spanish international squard.

Ironically, Valdes and Reina are both from barcelona. Both did play for barcelona. barcelona gave up Reina and choose Valdes. Now, Reina is in the international squard but Valdes isn't. Although there is not much different between Reina and Valdes, this proves that barcelona doesn't pay much atention at the goalline. I think barcelona needs to search for a better keeper. Although it is difficult to sign a keeper with capabilites like Cech or Casillas, barcelona should sign a keeper who is at least more consistent.

I'd run 4 Gianluiggi Buffon or at least Sebastien Frey for 15 kilo euros...

I think Valdés is good enough for Barça; if only he had a real competition just that he doesn't rest on his laurels... And, Josep, tio, yes, Buffon and, specially, Casillas, are better, but it seems that you didn't see the incredible screwup that Czech "perpetrated" at the Euro '08... If Valdés someday does the half of what Czech did, many of those late Valdés naysayers would exile him!
