PLEASE DONT SIGN ARSHAVIN i dont think hes a barca type of player he doesnt fit in a team like ours!
these rumours are getting more and more bizarre as the transfer window comes to an end. van persie would have been great but cant play in europe so whats the point? i thought palacio was a striker more than a LW, that doesnt solve anything and isnt an improvement on playing a CM in the LW position that we have now. maybe arsharvin because if he is crap we have jeffren/pedro as back or iniesta/henry/hleb, but honestly i hope they get neves he wants to leave, his club cant stop him, he can cross, score, head and has the neccessary skills for barca, none of the other options are that complete and that accessable. i think the board must know something we dont as he doesnt even seem to be a back up option.
since thiago neves is mostly amc he doesnt fit the LW position too ,capel is the only choice and he has low release clause... go get him already
I am very sure Arsenal will not let Van Persie go hes a key player for the team and they need him, they wouldnt let Adebayor go so why would they let Van Persie go and it would be very stuped because we cant use him in the champions league, we should fully go for Thiago Neves before Man City or another team get his hands on him we should buy him now while his price is i think around 15 mil when in a few years his price will be around 30-40 mil im sure and Palacio is more a player behind a striker or a central striker not really a winger but maybe he can play as a winger i dont know, I think Thiago Neves is the best option at this moment for the left wing thou we should look at the option Quaresma too but i guess its unlikely he will come back to Barca.
Thiago Neves is a left footed attacking midfielder why wouldnt he be able to play the left wing?
I don't think it's a matter of beeing able to play left wing. We have plenty of those who are able to do that (Iniesta, Hleb, Henry, Pedro, Jeffren). We need someone who was born on the sidelines! Someone who knows what it meens to play there already. Remember that it's not an easy thing to come to a new club (and perhaps even a new league) and then beeing forced to adjust to a position you never played before. That's two big adjustments in one take...no good!
And since there really isn't anyone suited for the role, i think we should be satisfied whith what we have. I have great faith in Gai Assulin whom i think will make his debute this year, and for now we have plenty of options to choose from.
woha... van persie is an excellent player!
too bad he cant play in the champions, but still if he is available i think we should go full-on with the deal, he is still young and has many years to give...
we need an OVERMARS!
van persie is even better as he can play striker and both flanks, got great shots and free kicks, fast.
exactly what we need. even if he cant play in the champions!
If we get van Persie we might as well be called Barcenal...What's with the "we want all arsenal-players" attitude? And it would be very stupid to by a player that can't play all games...
Palacio isn't leaving Boca; their transfer window is already closed and he's working well with their team thus far.
RvP is a excellent little player... when he's not injured. even if he hadn't already played in the Champion's League for Arsenal and even if they were somehow willing to sell him (HUGE "if's"), you're essentially buying half a player. if he's in our sights let's see if he can have a full season without shattering like a cheap cup.
Arshavin's the only real choice, and he's a great choice; the only problem is Zenit's price. hopefully we can work that down, and they're facing pressure to reduce it from several fronts. my fingers are crossed.
Whatever.....at this point in the transfer market I wouldnt not believe ANYTHING printed in the newspapers. With only a few weeks left till the transfer window closes none of these stories are credible. I mean Van Persie? Really? Does anybody believe that? First of all Arsenal will never sell him and even if they did we would have to pay shitloads for a player who cant even play CL games....come on, who believes that!?!? My guess is we will not buy another player and to be honest I dont think we need one. It seems Pedro is staying with the first team and with Henry seemingly willing to play on the left now, buying another player would be surplus to requirements. Pep knows what he is doing, he has shown as much so far. He has a plan and we must trust in it....
Why don't Barca go for Quaresma? He has proven his quality in Porto. Get him for around 25 mil or Thiago Neves for around 15 mil. Maybe go for Arshavin if his price really dropped. And... what about Ribery... I think Barca went for him for a long time ago but kind of failed... But is it impossible to get him?
Man, Van Persie would be most excellent, but him having played in Champions League makes him less desirable. That's where he'd do the most good. We already have a Liga-winning capable side.
But Arsenal/Wenger would be even less inclined to sell him than they were Adebayor. Sport is smoking something, frankly.
If Zenit came to its senses, Arshavin would be worth the risk at 15 to 18 million. Anything 20 or above just isn't worth it.
for me I would not switch Van Persie for Adebayor+20M, so if Ade price was 40M,how much will arsenal ask for RVP?specialy now that transfer market is almost closed,so arsenal will never find a player to buy to cover RVP absence, and as kxevin said, we need to get players for CL, if he cant play then he is not needed, he will not accept to come when he can play CL with arsenal,he is not that despirite to leave,Arsenal r not that despirite to sell, unlike "sorts" who will write anything to sell.
One day it's Capel, the next day it's Van Persie. Makes me wonder if Sport isn't just pulling names out of a hat as part of their "investigative" journalism. Van Persie, injuries aside would have been a real coup. But if he's not going to be available for Champions League play he's hardly worth the effort.
I seriously doubt there is much if any validity to this rumor because if so Barcelona would have been smart enough to approach Arsenal BEFORE the Champions League qualifiers got underway and not after. Just doesn't make sense.
It's ironic that with all the left wing candidates mentioned it always comes back to Arshavin's name. Even if Barcelona wished he would "go away" the local press certainly won't let them. With begs the question as to who wants Arshavin in a Barcelona kit more? the press or the club itself?
One last thing to consider. If Barcelona thought that Arshavin was the "missing piece" to the puzzle he would have been in a Barcelona kit by now. Barcelona's stance of "if the price is right we may consider it" smacks of indifference more than financial prudence. What the club is saying is that if they manage to get Arshavin, great, but if they don't they won't lose any sleep over it. At least that's how I view it.
P.S. For those of you who feel that Barcelona is doing the right thing by not choosing to overspend on Arshavin consider that they overspent on Alves. Sure the differences are there in that Alves is arguably considered the best right back in the world and the same can't be said of Arshavin at his position. But if Barcelona felt that Arshavin could take them "over the top" they would duly overspend on him as well. It has nothing to do with wether Alves is the better player. It has everything to do with how Barcelona view the impact the addition of Arshavin could make on the club. So far, by their actions, (or lack thereof) the club is showing they don't feel Arshavin's impact would be so great.
To barcanerdfan. Barca had Queresma in the beginning of Rijkaards era, but he did not wanted to play where Rijkaards placed him. And he didnt get a breakthrough, so they sold him. So i don't think he is an option. But you will never know. I just hope we will sort this wing issue out soon so we can get started.
JNICE Stop being so narrow minded and have fun with us here;)ur comment show ur stupidity, y r u commenting here if nothing said here worth?
Of course, jnice. But it's not a rumour that we're still looking for another player. Begiristain has confirmed that he's still looking around. So if they get someone, it'll probably one of the names that are going around now...
Of course most of them are rumours. Although many of us thought for a long time that Alves, Piqué or Hleb were just rumours too. It's just nice to hear other people's opinion about the players mentioned and their favourites.
gooooood piont!
I saw Hernanes against Belgiupm today and I really don't think he's a player we need. He played more as defensive midfielder and he seemed rather slow in everything he did. He wouldn't add a lot to us in my opinion. I think we should stop putting energy in this guy.
I can't see why we/people can't say and write what we mean about the rumours. Some rumours is clearly just a journalist who wants to make a "story", but things said about Arshavin is like the cases you describe with alves and pique. And so is Silva.
Another thing, I guess this forum is made for us to discuss and debate such things. And if you only are here to tel usl that we narrow minded, why not stay away if you only see us write stupidity.
I think its great to discuss in here as long as people keep the tone.drk
I agree with Jnice you guys worry as if the deals have already taken place. If SPort had their way, we would have stolen Ronaldo from under Reals wings, had Benzema, Hernanes, Silva, Neves,Capel, Adebayor and everyone else on the team by now.
There are also interviews with Arshavin sayinjg he would like to join us, jnice. And the interviews with Alves and Pique also came long after the first rumours.
We don't know who's on Txiki's list, so it's as wrong to say that it's "100% true" than to say it's "100% not true".
People can give their opinion on the issue if a certain player would be good for us, that's interesting. If you don't like that, you probably shouldn't read the comments.
Well, this time before the season begins is passed by harmless speculation, by fans as well as journalists. Agents plant stuff, players plant stuff, bored journalists gin stuff up based on something they heard from somebody's cleaning lady's hairstylist, or favorite players of theirs.
Why not talk about it? It doesn't hurt anything. As I said of the Van Persie rumor, Sport is smoking something. Most folks debunk the craziest things, but one never knows in transfer land. A year ago, selling Ronaldinho was outside the realm of reality, right? Now look. He's a tubby pylon for Brazil, and Ancelotti is wondering what the hell he's going to do with him.
99% of transfer market talk is garbage. But it's a fun way to pass time until we have actual games to natter about.
Jnice, if you look at the comments, most of them are calling BS on things coming out of the various papers. And don't forget that Pep, on this blog, is passing along information. Nobody has the definitive, inside track on news coming out of Barcelona except certain journalists.
I never believe a transfer is going to happen until I read about it on the team site, or it comes from a real source. Alves and Hleb were really the only "difficult" transfers, and recall when those rumors surfaced.
Fan speculation hurts nothing.
I honestly thought that Piqué for example was an invention. Like all the rumours about Cesc returning.
I thought it was Piqué's agent who was trying to get a good renewal offer from Manchester United (since he had only one year left). But in the end it seems that they were most probably already negotiating for months, so there was some truth in that.
Journalists don't know everything, but sometimes they do know something. Certainly at our club. Very rarely there are transfers coming out of nothing. Almost all our summer transfers were already rumoured months before they were officially announced.
And even if a transfer doesn't go through, it doesn't mean that everything was an invention. I think it's pretty clear we were seriously interested in guys like Adebayor, Silva or Arshavin. That those players don't come in the end, doesn't mean everything was a false. Not every negotiation leads to a transfer, there are (at least) three parties involved who all should agree.
In the coming months, I will try to have some "rumour analysis" of the transfer summer so we can have a better view on the trustworthiness of the different papers. Who had a certain name the first? What were the most ridulous rumours?
Anybody recalls the "we're on the verge of signing a Milan player" rumour? That indeed was Sport. On the other hand: Sport was also the first one who said that Caceres was on Txiki's list.
Pep, will there also be a way of rating journalists? As a journalist myself, I know that public officials favor certain reporters or columnists, so things that those people write are usually more "official" than something written by someone with less-favored status.
I'd be curious to know if the same journos are fed the good stuff. That might explain why Sport, who I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw it, often has the truth.
Pep when we usually discuss a rumour here (or at least me) we go beyond the fact of how real or fake it is, for example when we discuss arshavine transfer we discuss the basics transfer decessions are based on (age, risk, quality...)or squad depth or tactical structure. So the rumour is just the incentive to share experience and knowledge in football, each one for his own reason.
for example me, as a person who is studying UEFA B and targeting UEFA PRO in 10 years, its important to test my opinion thru sharing it with others, some may not have good knowledge in the game, but others (like kxevin for example)who i dont agree with all the time, but offer some ideas that worth thinking of, and may inspire in a way or another.
in everything in life u can b open minded and turn it to ur own benefit, or approach it passively and c only the empty part of the glass.
u r doing a great job in this block pep, and we will be arround to help u making things better the best way we can;)
"the rumour is just the incentive to share experience and knowledge in football, each one for his own reason."
I totally agree on that. It's not because the Van Persie maybe isn't true (although you can be pretty sure he's on some kind list otherwise Txiki really isn't doing his job well, although maybe not the short list for the last week of his trasfer period), that it cannot be interesting to share views on if a player like Van Persie would fit our system.
To bring the "journalist" level in would be interesting, Kxevin, but since I didn't focus on that until now, it would cost too much time to look up everything again. It's maybe an idea for the future.
Some journalists are clearly not trustworthy. The Milan rumour for example came from José Luis Carazo who often has some rumours in his "Confidencial" reports in Sport, but who's almost always wrong.
You also have some strange paper stands. El Mundo Deportivo was/is for example pro-Deco and pro-Ronaldinho (and anti-Eto'o---and anti-Laporta). It's good to know that when they spread some rumour.
They for example had the best contacts with the entourage of Ronaldinho and Deco (mainly through journalist Cristina Cubero). But that doesn't always mean they have the right information cause they are also used and manipulated by the entourage to get some rumours out. So it's all very difficult to judge. Although with some logical thinking you can get far.
Certainly in a club like Barcelona where you have so much people involved and pressure from outside and were you have a whole part of the media depending on that one club, it's a mess (a nice and interesting mess though). In England for example you just don't have that, papers who mainly focus on one team. The Sun can have one day a crazy rumour on Arsenal and the next day on Manchester United and the next day on Chelsea. The Catalan papers need every day rumours on one club. It's a totally different environment.
