Manchester City plans January bid for Henry

British tabloids The Daily Mail and The Daily Express claim that Manchester City manager Mark Hughes wants to sign Barcelona forward and French international Thierry Henry (31) during the next transfer period (read more here).

English Premier League club Manchester City is expected to launch a massive bid for Henry when the transfer window opens in January. Both Barcelona and the player could be interested in a move and Henry is keen to return to England. Hughes has asked to be kept informed of the developments.

Man city can try all they can, Henry would not leave Barca unitl summer. Am sure with this new era, he thinks he stands a chance of winning medal(s) with Barca, Liga and or Champs lge. So I dont think he would listen to offers for now. And he would agree to move on in summer as he is now fully aware hes not a starter and hes not going to get his preffered role.

If we keep playing Iniesta-Eto'o-Messi up front and leaving Henry on the bench I think he'd consider a January move, though I'm not sure he'd sign for Man City. They'd have to offer him something ridiculous like 300k per week.

Hughes is very interested in him and he highlighted him for January, because he needs one of the experienced strikers. I don't see why should Barca hesitate to sell him in January if they offer 15-20M for Henry?! The fact is Henry is almost 32 and he past his best long ago. He knows he can't play at his highest level anymore, and playing left winger bothers him.
On the other side, if Barca sell him-who will they buy? There's not a lot of players at the market who could play CL after New Year (but if Gudjohnsen stays he can play striker what he really is).
I'd personally go for Huntelaar.

Less realistic options:
-Villa
-Baptista
-Adebayor (maybe Yaya+cash)
-Aguero (too expensive)
-Benzema (too expensive)

If it depends on Guardiola, I don't think he will leave. Guardiola wants to finish the season with this group and he'll probably won't ask for anyone this winter (nor let anyone go just like that).

If it depends on Henry, I would think he'd like to finish the season cause at this moment it looks like this team can play for the trophies.

If there's a transfer, I think it will be because the board pushes it through after receiving a bid by Manchester City or any other team that is too good to refuse.

Currently, I think that the best option for Barca would be to release Titi, especially if he shows any signs of likeness to move to Man City. The price that I consider adequate would be, as house mentioned, between 17 and 20M €. He is still too young to provide us with a Larsson role but preety much old for a starter, regardless of competition. Despite his size, he is not even close to being a tall, strong and physical striker which Barca craves so much and don't give us anything that we miss.
If some options are to be considered, my first guess is Podolski. Although not so much tall as Titi he is much stronger and he is a clinical finisher. His heading is excellent and he would spare us from buying a left winger since he is very comfortable in that role. That would mean a lot for our youth player development because we could easily start with putting Gai to a left wing. Moreover, he doesn't seem to happy about his current status in Bayern - maybe a possibility.
Mentioning fantasy football and dream signings I would suggest my personal favorite for a lone striker position. Young, tall, powerful finisher with excellent pace and first touch - Mario Balotelli. Of course, Mr. Moratti as well as Mourinho are nowhere close to being keen to sell him.
Benzema fits the bill but given the Mr. Aulas negotiating skill, players value as itself and premier league club's growing financial power I doubt he can be considered as a real option. Preety much same goes for Aguero. Besides, question is if he would accept a move to another La Liga side.

BTW, any of you remember my summer advice to buy Adriano? :)

@ my compatriot Eye: dugo vec nisam vidio da si nesto pisao...

I'm sorry guys, Balkan business :)

Podolski can't even play at Bayern... I simply cannot see him as replacement for Henry. Barca must give Eto'o renewal as soon as possible.
It would be great to see someone tall and strong as new striker, someone like Baptista or Adebayor. As I said, my option would be Huntelaar-he reminds me on Kluivert. His price is quite acceptable, and his playing characteristics are great.

I just cant imagine that the fans of the team offering the best performance and having the deepest squad are the ones who are talking mostly about transfers:)
Sell no one, Buy no one, stick to whats tested and hit the peak!

Hey HouseMD, although Henry is only 31 years old, he clearly is a tough competitor. He has scored goals despite being played out if his natural position. The fact is we need to keep him at least until next summer. We need leaders like him on the squad. I prefer that we play him in the middle with Eto in a 4 4 2.

Henry isn't going anywhere until January. Playing with Robinho? Is that supposed to be a lure for him?

Don't forget that Henry said that the only Premiership side he would play for was Arsenal. Perhaps time has caused him to reconsider such a statement. Possible.

But why leave one of the best sides in the world to play for a side that will, if it is lucky, finish top 10 in the Premiership.

When a player already has more money than Croesus, it takes more than cash to lure him, I think. And after watching Citeh cock it up against Liverpool on Sunday, I really can't see it. Robinho had a clear opportunity to stop one attack that led to a goal. All he had to do was sprint over and make a tackle. He sort of looked at the defender and seemed to say "My job is offense." And so it went. If someone did that for us, Guardiola would execute that person.

Compare that with the fire and effort present in the Guardiola regime. Henry will probably leave in the summer--irrespective of what kind of season he has--but not in January.

And any supporter who watched the goal he started then finished against Atletico, or his effort that directly accounted for BOTH goals against Espanyol, couldn't possibly want the man to go anywhere right now.

Yes, some will say "There goes Kxevin, with his Henry love again." But it's all about Barca, folks. As Pep said, no way Guardiola lets him leave.

i wish henry would leave in the january,i dont see it though ,the player is the one that wont leave.i bet barcelona board wants henry out because of his huge wage.

i think he will stay till summer then as a failure he is now to barca will leave(even with a la liga medal,we will win this year)(and no winning la liga doesnt mean all players were succesfull)

many wanted eto out,if eto had left this team we would be rock bottom now.guardiola depended on henry this summer and wanted eto out dont make me laugh....

If your wishes are granted BARCA wld be F**ed. Y do u want to get rid of this Guy @ all cost? I say sell him in the summer. We would have made a plan to replace him. But if he leaves now, eto breaks a foot, then we would have just Bojan for the rest of the season? wake up fellas. I dont think Henry is that bad as you gys make it. Adebayou would NEVER be as good as Henry..ask Ade and he would tell you the same. lol.. Do u guys live in England or should I ask do u guys follow the prem.. cos i Live in London, watch 95% of all prem games. Ade needs 5 chances to score 1. If we would get ur so craved Benzema and play him on the left wing.. honestly tell me how many goals would he score in a season and how many assists would he give in the same season? I think we are just a bit ungreatful. Imagine you were Henry and BARCA almost killed to get him (over4 years), got him, and all he gets from the fans is SELL HIM!! SELL HIM!! men i dont blame footballers for not showing loyalty cos we the fans are only loyal when the going is good/smooth. I am P**Ed

@noubarca

u r very right!!!

but i think trying to get benzema although he is very expensive would not be bad...he is just 20..i saw him playing against Bayern Munich..that guy has got some sick skills..the ball just stick on his foot like zidane..that`s the diffrence between benzema & henry...benzema can control the ball very well even if he is surounded by 3-4 players...henry needs space..anytime henry get the ball in a tight zone his first touch his horrible..but whenever he has space he starts shining...imo, we should keep him and see how he improves till sommer.

NOTE: "if we can get benzema in sommer, it is like we got henry when he was 20 or 21 and the bitter truth is when henry was 20 he could not even play half so good as benzema with 20"

Maybe Henry should stay until summer, but that's only because FCB wouldn't be able to find replacement in January. But it would be foolish to refuse 20M from Man City. With that money Barca could buy another striker.
The fact is that Henry is one of the best payed players in the world. It's a little bit stupid to pay him so much to play last 30 mins. of the game. Besides, he doesn't play his position!

Messi+Aguero wouldn't be as effective as Messi+Eto'o/Henry/Krkic. Aguero is a different kind of player.

Henry's is gone in the summer. We all know that. Who his replacement will be, we will have to wait and see. Man U wanted Berbatov. Think they're happy with their purchase?

The grass is often a lot greener with "new" players. Some wanted us to sign Robinho to replace that sucky left winger Henry. Think Robinho would have stolen a pass from a defender, fed a midfielder THEN ran full tilt boogie into the box to receive the return pass? He couldn't even be bothered to defend a pass that was well within his reach.

Great strikers are rare. Aguero is still developing. He might eventually become the business. I'd feel a lot better about him if he weren't 5'7" and didn't have a 60 million price tag, that's for sure.

Right now, we have two great strikers: Eto'o and Henry. Both have saved a match for us this season. To say that without Eto'o we would be rock bottom is simply inaccurate. Let's have a look:

Tie with Racing: Messi goal.
Win over Gijon: Eto'o (1 of 6 goals)
Win over Betis: 2 for Eto'o in a 3-2 win
Win over Espanyol: No goals, drew the gp-ahead penalty
Win over Atletico: 2 goals in a 6-1 thrashing

So to reiterate: Eto'o and Henry have "won" the same number of matches, one each (Betis for Eto'o, Espanyol for Henry (scored one, set up the other). Both are important to our short and long-term success.

Guardiola will rotate players as he sees fit. Eto'o has been a sub, Henry has been a sub, Messi has been a sub.

Let's support the team, let it do its work, and stop trying to bum rush anyone out of town until the season has run its course. Then if they suck or aren't doing the business, we'll have valid reasons for wishing them well in their new home.

Kxevin, I totally agree about Henry, and like you said after the Espanyol and Athletico matches it almost looked like shades of the old Henry. I would love to see him go out on a high note, that Athletico goal reminded me of the old Thierry.

I would love to see Adebayor though if Henry goes after this season, Ade is a very unselfish player and very talented.

My only consern about our forwards is Bojans minutes. He has to get more time on the picth. Etoo is heading towards a fantastic season, with Henry as a back up, and some times in the left, But (Iniseta/pedro/Henry) Bojan has to get more minutes from now on.

TO KXEVIN
do not forgrt that eto'o played almost twice the time that henry played!!
the most important fact form me is
that henry was in as a sub when the team did the job and his teammates didn't wanted to push more for goals..
and that henry plays on the wing!! how many goals did iniesta scored (1) from that position?? also twice the time that henry was an the field!! and what a time for iniesta!! his best performances since he started for barca!! yet henry playing out of position and out of team timing and out of form as some of you say he does his job!!
i do not think that henry should leave not even in summer as i said a lot of times before the kids of the team need him!! the team needs his mentality and his personality we also need his skills!! eto'o every time we play against team thea play back in the field is as good as me ( i play center back :) ) for the team!! in CL next round we will find this difences see last years game with man unt theu played back eto'o was even if he was not in the field!!
anw i said too much i think!!
btw i like eto'o a lot but not for all games and against all types of teams in all the competitions :))

Once Copa matches get started, you'll see more time for folks such as Gudjohnsen, Pedro, Krkic and Victor Sanchez, who was promoted, though I always forget that fact.

I love both of our strikers. As someone pointed out, having Eto'o go out would cause a sigh of relief, unless the player coming in was Henry. The reverse is also true. The one-two is awesome.

im a manchester city fan, and personally i feel that robinho would temp henrey to a move to the city of manchester. i love spanish football and know my facts, so far this season henrey as only came on as a sub 3 times and not started one game. if he fancies his chance in the french national team, he would want to be playing regular football. henrey will also kno that city are willing to spend serious money and the club WILL go forward. so i nthis sence i can see henrey signin for the blue moons.
