Youth: Adria Carmona

Spanish football site Join Futbol claims that English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur is closely following and preparing an offer for Juvenil B left wing attacker and Spanish youth international Adrià Carmona (16), who presented the new away shirt two weeks ago (read more here).

If Barcelona would not be willing to let the player go, Tottenham could even propose a loan deal giving Carmona, who was part of the Spanish team that won the European championship U-17 in May, the chance to gain experience in another league.

If -like it is believed- Carmona stays in Barcelona next seaon, the player is expected to be promoted to the Barcelona B team of Luis Enrique.

why are our players so easily poached ?!! cant we tie them up contractually!? I know they cant sign professional contracts until they are 17 right pep ? But something.. a pre-contract or something.. this is ridiculous.. It seems that as soon as these kids turn 16 or 17 we go through a 2 year panic period where we almost loose them to at least 3 different english teams. What is fifa doing about this.. their compensation scheme is obviously garbage because we got something like 500,000 for him.. A player like him we should have gotten 5-10 million compensation.

Like I have udnerstood they can sign a player from the moment he turns 16 and give him a three-year contract.

From the moment they turn 18, you can offer them any contract you want. But of course then they have only one year left on their contract, which can put pressure on the renewal negotiations (like probably was the case with Giovani).

The lad is 16, he's still a child! If they loan him out to Tottenham he will be beat to a bloody pulp! How does loaning him to another club advance his career at this stage? Are Tottenham envisioning him making their full squad next season? He needs to stay in Barcelona, play on the "B" squad, continue to grow and mature physically and mentally and then in a couple of years time Barcelona can re-evaluate his future with the club.

Just because these EPL clubs are incompetent when it comes to developing youth systems, doesn't mean that Barcelona (and other European clubs) need to become "breeding factories" for them! It's high time England started grooming their own youth products instead of poaching everyone else's!

To the comment above. Get your facts straight first before coming across the idiot you are!

"At the age of 11, Messi was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency. River Plate did not have enough money to pay for the treatment of the illness that cost over £500 a month. Carles Rexach, the sporting director of FC Barcelona, was made aware of Messi's talent, and Barcelona signed him after watching him play, offering to pay for the medical bills if he was willing to move to start a new life in Spain."

I hardly call that "poaching"!

I think as a matter of fact, the problem isn't who poach who...the football itself has turned into bussiness, that has led into "is all about money"...and has forgotten that such talents (i.e. messi, fab, bojan, carmona, and perhaps many fabolous talents barca has) must be threaten in nurtured way, instead of exploit them...FIFA needs to understand that such talents is great prospects for football in THE FUTURE, at present we still want to see xavi plays for 5-6 years ahead...and yet Puyol is still a perfect player with captain band for 3-4 years ahead...we, indeed want to see bojan score his senior 100 goals, but not in next years...
