Pavlyuchenko again an option as centre forward

Russian tabloid Tvoi Den (unconfirmedly) claims that, with the difficult negotiations on Arshavin and Adebayor, Barcelona has again opened the option to transfer Spartak Moscow forward and Russian international Roman Pavlyuchenko (26) (read more here).

Barcelona would be considering to launch a 15 million euro° bid for the Russian centre forward, who is expected to leave his club this summer and who is also monitored by several other European top clubs.

Italian football site Tutto Mercato Web claims that Barcelona is one of the four clubs in the running for Pavlyuchenko and estimates the chances of the clubs at this moment as follows: AC Milan 30% - Barcelona 25% - AS Roma 25% - Tottenham 20%.

pep's opinion:
because he was one month ago already once linked with barcelona, i watched him a little more closely in the euro games against sweden, holland and spain and i have to say i was really impressed by his performances. and not only because of that wonderful goal against the netherlands (watch it again
here). *** what i totally loved about him was the way he moves in the box, that is just world class. even being the sole striker and so kind of being covered by the two central defenders he always (al-ways) seemed to have no defender in a circle of one meter around him when a ball reached him. incredible. even in that terrible spain-russia game, he gave puyol and marchena a hard time in the first half. i'm pretty sure puyol would name pavlyuchenko if our captain was asked about his most difficult opponent during the tournament (ahead of guys like toni, ibrahimovic or klose) *** he seemed (based on those three games of course, you should see him in more games and in other circumstances to have a more profound judgment, plus: i would want to know more about his character) a very complete striker to me: strong, fast, smart, versatile, good heading, great long distance shot, good balance between selfish and eye for team-mates. maybe he lacks some scoring? and like he showed with russia he must be able to play as only centre forward in a 4-3-3. *** of course he's 26 and has no experience in a top league, so it would be a huge risk to for example take him as your first choice striker. although maybe on the other hand: who else is available on the market if you don't get adebayor and guardiola holds on to his preference for a strong centre forward? if eto'o would have stayed, i guess for that price pavlyuchenko would have been the ideal number two behind him. *** note: pavlyuchenko was apparently only russia's back-up for the striker position---i wonder how that pogrebnyak guy is like...

Agreed, Pep. For 15 million, I'd take him. He does indeed have great movement in the box. YouTube has some good stuff on him as well.

Young, big, strong, fast and can create space. What's not to like, if the price is right?

He's in the picture of a few other teams, so we'll see if Spartak wants to be sensible, or insist on crazy money like Zenit for Arshavin.

good news,
he is a good player with a relatively low price, & he is tall & i expect he is good in heads, so we will have a striker who can finish crosses from Messi, Alves, Hleb, Iniesta, & Xavi ..
If Eto'o & Henry stay, they will have to compete for a place in 1st squad & that will helps the team too much..
I think all our players should compete to be in 1st squad (except Valdes, unfortunately), so all players have to do their best

It's not just from the Russian tabloid, either...Catalan daily Sport also had an article about the possibility of the transfer. I trust Sport more than I do the Russian tabloids, so the story seems more legit. Follow the link (if you read Spanish). http://www.sport.es/default.asp?idpublicacio_PK=44&idioma=CAS&idtipusrecurs_PK=7&idnoticia_PK=526101

I know, but Sport refers to the Russian tabloid as the source...

That's why I said "unconfirmedly", since I couldn't really find it on the site of that paper. I did found another article where some Spartak official apparently said that Pavlyuchenko can leave this summer.

Totally agree with your opinion above, Pep. He'll become very important player if he comes to FCB. My opinion is that he has better or equal physical and technical possibilities as Adebayor and more important he's cheaper than Ade for about 30M!! Just imagine him and Eto'o together. Excellent option.

AC Milan seems to be interested in every play Barca is involved with. I'm getting annoyed, man...:(

Don't worry about Milan, they cannot compete with us if we really would push for the guy.

He is good and it will be god if he comes, but the most important is that Eto stays.
He is legend of this club and he is in his prime now so it it is essential that he stay.

If Milan have in fact decided to do the Adebayor deal, they won't go for Pavlyuchenko. First because they won't have the money, but also because they would have four strikers: Pavluychenko, Pato, Inzaghi and Adebayor (not even counting Ronaldo if he stays).

K-1, I don't think that Eto'o is part of our plans, and the club wants him gone. I don't know why he's being so difficult about working with the club to find a new home, frankly.

For 15mil I would have rather preferred Guiza over Pavlyuchenko. Sure Guiza might not have first team quality but he is a PROVEN commodity in La Liga. The same cannot be said of Paylyuchenko. At least with Guiza you know what you are getting versus the "unknown" with Pavlyuchenko. And much like Arshavin I believe there is more "hype" surrounding Pavlyuchenko than actual "substance". Let's be honest, how many people really "knew" who this guy was before the Euro's? I'm just not convinced that Pavlyuchenko is the genuine article nor an "ideal" fit for Barcelona. Personally I see him having a greater chance of being a bust than a success. At least with Guiza, he may not be "dynamic" but he's going to give you consistancy.

15mil for Pavluchenko is very good indeed!!! He's a talented, skillful and pacey striker. Plus his shooting skill is just top class. Hope he comes.

I'm sorry guys, but you're all mistaken. What's the point of opening up if u can't score?
His problem is that he doesn't have the sense of where the goal is located because and never looks at the goal when shooting.
He is well know for his his inability to score in Russia, and needs about 5 chances before scoring one.
Barca already had players like him in Sonny Anderson and Kluivert...

I'd leave Eto'o, because I still believe he's the best striker in the World. However, if this would be impossible then I'd go with Adebayor as the replacement.

i agree with k-1... it would be simply stupid to let eto'o who i consider one of the best if not THE best striker in the world. he is the perfect centre forward for barca with his speed and his uncontrollable movements. even in the last two seasons where he was injured for long times and not at his best when he came back, he scored like 0.7 or 0.8 goals per game. there has also never been a problem with his attitude. plus: he never said he wants to go... what the club is doing is stupid and just another consequence of the f**king entourage and its wiseacres in barcelona who dont like guys like eto'o who never fear to say their opinion...

Thanks for the additional information, Daniel, spread this blog in Russia!

I won't be there around the time of the match, but keep us informed.

etoo never had a problem with attitude?! that has to be the reasons for him going, to create better harmony in the dressing room. i like pavlyuchenko, he may not be a star but with the support we can give him he will do as good as ade, drogba or may even etoo. sell etoo and ron buy silva, hernanes, pavlyuchenko, and neves complete squad with good depth and skill.
