Meeting with Silva this week

Valencia regional sports paper Super Deporte claims that, after the board survived the vote of no confidence, Barcelona will now soon pick up the talks on the transfer of Valencia left winger and Spanish international David Silva (22).

The Spaniard, who is currently on holiday, has told his agent Amadeo Rengel that he doesn't want to hear anything about rumours and only wants to be informed of formal offers that have been made.

Silva is not planning to play things hard and will only look at offers coming in if Valencia decides to sell him. With the buyout clause being 90 million euro°, it is expected that Valencia will not be willing to negotiate for a transfer price lower than 35 million euro°.

Valencia regional radio station LP Punto Radio claims that Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain will meet later this week with Amadeo Rangel and Julio Llorente, the agents of Silva.

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Silva is the main alternative in case the transfer of Zenit attacker Arshavin fails. But with the transfer price of the Spanish winger having seriously risen after his good performances at the European championship last month, Barcelona could also be looking at other options on the list.

this is the guy that barca should spend 30-35 mil on not ade. he is showing loyalty to valencia which is a good sign but surely champions league football and a club the size of barca could tempt him, bring him to the camp nou please!

35 million for a player who isn't descisive is just crazy. he scores 3 goals a season and delivers 5 assists. If you think 35m is justified, 85 on ronaldo is also ok. Give me kun aguero for that price! and v persie or even robinho as a winger

Aguero, Silva, Hernanes! nothing more... Forza Barca!!!

35 millions! Ffs, get real. He's worth max 20 millions.

35 mill is excessive for an injury-prone midget, although u gotta admit that this boy's special.
I'd give 25 mill max: take it or leave it.

name any one else who can replace ronaldinho? prob wont score as many but only other player i could think of is ryan babel he'd be ideal but not sure we could get him although for 30 odd mill liverpool might listen an we could always use their unsettling tactics against them!

Delightful. Another talented midget. Whee! Can't wait. He will certainly please the fans. He'll please Rio Ferdinand as well, as he runs into his sternum just inside the box, if we even get as far as Champions League semis next season.

And of course, if it happens, we'll end up paying an inflated price because of a hat trick at Euros.

Still, I'm staying positive....or trying to.

As I've said numerous times, Silva's a good player, but he's more of a facilitator than a finisher. He will look to thread a pass into the box first before attempting his own shot. And as far as his shot goes, let's just say that it's far from accurate.

He's clearly not worth 35mil despite the positive showing he made at the Euros. Keep in mind the talent that surrounded him, and defenses were having their hands full trying to mark Villa and Torres which pretty much left Silva with a free run on the pitch and tons of wide open space. That won't happen in La Liga play.

Don't forget that if Rosell eventually succeeds he has made no secret of going after Agüero - of course he's made similar declarations regarding Ronaldo and Pato as well.

alright kxevin, i see your point about the 'midgets', bloody talented midgets who we'd be lost without, but if you dont like silva, a midget, or guddy, a non midget what is your opinion on who should fill the remaining positions?

i would prefer aquero over silva.. keep eto'o or if not, take hountelaar for a replacment.. sell ronny for sure any price above 25m and qudy also for 10.. good options is rombinho, or arshavin. henrique (we want him anyway) for center mid. even we wont use him now.. gai from b team.. not andep or berba..
line up..
GK VALDEZ
RB ALVES LB SILVINHO IN ABIDAL OUT CB PUYOL CASERES OR PIQUE OR EVEN PLAY CASERES LB..
CDM TOURE CDM KEITA CAM XAVI.. RAM MESSI.. LWM ARSHAVIN, ROMBINHO OR BOJAN.. ST HENRY/HOUNTELAR OR ETO'O if he stays..
pique and marques can play DMC as CB.. puyol also RB.. iniesta any where in the mid but not as good an the other options in any position so (backup).. bojan anywhere in attack.. next year will be as good as anyone in LWM OR LAM.. and better than most of them in ST position..
KEMPE CYPRUS..

Spain won the European championship with a team of eleven midgets...

They did indeed, Djoef. But Germany made it easy. Tell me they would have scored against the defense in depth that Premier League strikers see every week. And Fernando Torres is over 6 feet tall and strong, don't forget.

I think we "need" two more signings (three, if you count Ronaldinho's nutritionist/keeper): An attacking mid. Hernanes would be great. He wouldn't start, but for that tactical flexibility, that would be excellent. Ditto for Arshavin, but I'd take Hernanes over Arshavin for around the same money.

For the "9" position, and I'll preface this by saying that it will be an unpopular call, but I would take Adebayor or Ibrahimovic, stated in order of preference.

Ibra is a little gimpy, but he understands how to play against sides that are happy with a 0-0 scoreline. That's if his knee is fully healed, which is a question.

And Arsenal is crazy for their valuation of him, but Adebayor sure can score against Premiership opposition.

I like Huntelaar as an option, but my first two choices are listed above.

I love our collection of talented midgets. I just want some tactical flexibility. You can beat Mallorca playing the way we do, but not Man U. And "tactical flexibity" doesn't mean long ball. But clearly, we can't pass the ball into the net against sides that won't let us play our system.

Guardiola watched the same Champions League matches that we all did the past two seasons. Yes, we beat two Premiership sides during the wonder year without a big, strong striker. But we had an on-form Ronaldinho, a player who made all rules obsolete. Backing him with Eto'o (pre-injuries), Messi (pre-injuries, til the final) and Deco (pure genius), we couldn't help but not score.
