French sports paper L'Equipe claims that Barcelona forward and Cameroonian international Samuel Eto'o (27) is on the verge of signing a contract renewal after a meeting yesterday morning between the player and Barcelona officials.
The contract of Eto'o, that now expires in 2010, would be extended until 2012 and the year salary of the player would rise from 7,5 to 9 million euro.
Asked about the rumour, sources close to the player confirmed the meeting to Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo but denied the deal and said a renewal was not the subject of the meeting.

Hi Pep,
I like your homepage. Good work.
I will ask that you will make a Transfer summer 2008 for Barca Atletic and juventil a and juventil b and more?
greeting
Palle Madsen,
Denmark
Hi Palle,
For Barcelona Atlètic I was already planning to make a full overview (who's in, who's out, where do they come from, where did they go to), so you'll have that one soon (as well as the complete squad list of the team when the transfer period is over).
On the Juvenil A and B. I'm not really following it (apart form the Juvenil A guys that could join Atlètic), but I'll try to pick up an overview from another site once the transfer period is over.
Great idea!!! On the Official english website they have not as much information of the Juvenil A & Barca Athletic as the Catalan or Spanish version.
BTW: Is Jonathan Dos Santos still playing with the Juvenil A??
Jonathan's father said recently that his contract still hasn't been renewed (scroll down the page and click at the 'jonathan' label at the left of the screen for the full story).
He's apparently not getting promoted to Atlètic so this would anyhow be his last season with Juvenil A.
Now that he is staying the best strategic plan is to renew his contract, extending his contract for 2 more years with 2 millions salary increase is not bad at all. without renewal he will be free to go in 2 years...with renewal after 2 years barca will have the option to keep him and extend his contract to finish his career here or sell him and for sure he will worth more than the 4 millions defference in salary the club will pay him for those 2 years based on extention...and if they decide to sell him next year of course the extention will prove being very profitable.
Yet I am not sure if eto will make it that easy for barca...may be he extend after a while, in january for example after he prove his point, but now?I think time is on his side so y will he rush what he dont need much?
I think: the sooner, the better. If you wait till January he will probably be more expensive because of two reasons:
1. he'll have shown again that he's irreplacable
2. the expiring date of 2010 is again a few months closer which could give him and his agent the possibility to play the "on my terms or I'm off for free in 1,5 year" card
what i ment groga is that he (eto) will actualy delay his extention because he will be in a better position by time...time is on his side and thats y i was wondering if he will really accept to renew that fast
Ok, we share the same view then. With the whole soap opera about him having to leave, we have put ourselves in a weak position.
I can't see Eto'o renewing without a LOT of crow being eaten by Txiki/Guardiola. It would be a good move by the club if they do, to preclude the loss of the player on a free, or fire sale next season.
It would be a good move if it happens, since he's the best striker option for us now, with all the other guys being locked up.
Kxevin runs his mouth like wild fire on any issue regarding Eto. Go out and get the other strikers that you have been running your mouth about them and bring to Barca. I hate your racist altitude and crazy ideas that you put on this site.
You need to grow and evolve with the world. OK!
Racist? I'm black! So it staggers me that I could be considered racist, unless I am anti-Cameroonian. I'm kind of a dead ringer for Thuram, or so I've been told.
I repeat: Eto'o is, at present, our best striker option, so his renewal is good. Yes, Txiki and Guardiola are going to have to eat crow to facilitate it. It only makes sense after you tell someone he is surplus to club requirements, then put him on the block.
And I would say that "evolution" is allowing the club and its attack/strike force to grow and change, rather than hitching wagons to the guys who are there, precisely because they are the guys who are there.
Evolution is also acknowledging that there are opinions other than your own which are valid, and that someone espousing them doesn't mean that person has a "racist attitude," or "crazy ideas." Blogs and the comments therein are about healthy (and admittedly pointless, since none of us run a club) debate.
Wonder what people will say when I start saying that Puyol will probably need to sit after this season? Hit men will probably be sent after me.
Kxevin...I was hoping u dont drag urself in this kind of discussions and thats exactly u i defended u somewhere on this blog before...let him release his psyco energy till he get sick of doing so or feel relief...
Anony...u r one of those who smash everything good in life...distructive machine...stick to the ethics of this blog...
excuse me pep, we all know its ur blog, but we can talk sometimes as a part of the blog family.
Unfounded insults will be deleted. This one goes through because Kxevin already reacted to it. Use arguments when you don't agree with someone. Or at least founded and original insults.
As long as you don't expect me to buy you all christmas or ramadan or hannukah or (fill in your religious or non-religious happy moments), you can consider yourself part of my blog family, ramzi.
Fair enough pep:)
Its true there is no need for insults! We are all here for the same reason and that is to support this great club. Everybody has a right to their opinion and its not like what Kxevin is saying is so outlandish! I love Eto'o, he is def my favourite striker in European football yet I can see Kxevins points. Off the pitch he can be a bit reckless and i can see why Pep wanted to replace him. That being said I think the best decision was made in the end and I hope he stays for a long time. Next season we can sell Henry and buy our target man!
Kxevin I have never heard the expression "a lot of crow being eaten".....i dont get it...
Ramzi, where are you from?
Kxevin by the way...regarding payol...hm...r u reading my mind or what?but i will feel good if u mention that first so u get the sticks on ur back:P
I think that, at the very least, renewal negotiations will wait until the next big vote on Laporta this month.
"Presents", I forget "presents" in my last mail!
And how everything is turning the right way for Laporta. If you would have a vote of no confidence today you probably would have over 60 per cent for Laporta instead of against him. Although this one is a different vote so you can't really see which way it's going.
I never thought I'd see the day that Eto'o's contract would be renewed as long as Guardiola was in charge. But I can't deny Eto'o's looked "on a mission" even if it's only in the pre season. If he can direct his wrath in the proper direction (i.e. the rest of La Liga and NOT his own team) he could be in for a monster season.
I don't think anyone can expect him to keep up with the pace he's currently been on, but at least he seems focused and serious at the task at hand. Hopefully he'll crack a smile at some point down the road - or when/if his contract is officially renewed. I know 9mil a year would put a grin on my face!
As much as I love Eto'o as a player I still have a bitter taste in my mouth over his "perceived" bail out on his teammates in the Madrid match. But it seems his teammates have put it all behind them and that's all that matters. Nothing would make me happier than to see Eto'o and Co. smash Madrid next time around, at the Bernabeu no less! I'm sure more than a few Barca players already have the date circled on the calendar.
Thanks, everyone. It's all good. Just wanted to make it clear that I only have love for Barca, not hate for any player. And I really do look like Thuram, apparently.
The year we first signed him, my wife and I were in Barcelona for the Gamper match, taking a walk on matchday afternoon. People were gawking, cars were stopping, kids were pointing. I was thinking "What, haven't they seen a brother before?"
We got back to the hotel and were watching a press conference and my wife said "Look, you're on TV." It was Thuram, almost the same glasses and everything. Too funny.
The way Eto'o and Henry played together yesterday, that either/or is clearly a magical, amazing all of the above. I love it. That side yesterday would NOT have lost 1-0 to Man U on aggregate.
Hilal, "eating crow" is an Americanism for not only apologizing, but kissing butt until the aggreived party forgives the insult. If we want to renew Eto'o, Txiki, Laporta and Guardiola had better pucker up!
