Barcelona could make a new move for Arshavin

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona could make another attempt to sign Zenit Saint Petersburg forward and Russian international Andrei Arshavin (27) when the next transfer period opens in January (read more here).

Both Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristian and Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola would be convinced by Arshavin's qualities and the Russian player could be on the market during the winter transfer window.

Asked about a possible move for Arshavin, Guardiola said yesterday at a press conference that the decision on whether or not to sign players in january isn't taken yet: "It's an excellent player, but I'm now focusing on the squad we have. That's how things are now. When the winter market opens, we will look at the situation and make a decision if anything has to change. But it's indeed a great player."

Asked about the new rumours linking him with several European top clubs, Arshavin said to journalists that the first condition for an exit is a lowering of the asking price: "At the moment these are only rumours. And it is useless to comment on them. We should understand one simple thing: the most important thing now is not the interest of whatever team but whether the club agrees to let me go.

I have shared my position on the point. It is quite clear that at the moment nobody is going to buy Arshavin for 25 million euro°, so the problem is the reasonable price. When the price is set we can talk about a possible transfer and also about my personal preferences."

I like him too, but we already have similar players like Iniesta and Hleb, so can't see us spend on him. Although Arshavin is more goal-oriented and scores more...

Yeah..sell Xavi for 25 and buy Arshavin for the same money.

NO. WAY.

Txiki would have to leave pain forever.

If we get him for a reasonable price in January, at least he can be a leeway to rest the likes of Messi, Eto'o or Iniesta for crucial Champions League matches.

corect! we must get him! he is better than hleb and i think that for a reasonable price we can try to sign him. I'm sure that board will find a place for him

@Peter

I don't think anyone wants to sell Xavi, but if we could sell Henry as soon as in january and get some more money than we would in the summer, then I think Arshavin would be the perfect player to come in.

Obviously, I know nothing about the economic situation, but I hope we have about 5-10 million to spend on a swap of these players. The difference in quality is huge.

xavi cant leave its unreal, and i wouldnt mind arshavin coming hes good and can score, i mean we need someone new on the left and that can be arshavin, di maria, etc. whatever barca thinks would be cool

what if henry leaves like in 2010 to FCB miami and help launch the club, it could be like a beckham move plus he said himself hed like to live in the US one day, it logical

This guy is a COMPLETE piece of crap. I can confidently state that having watched russian premier legue matches for years as well as arshavin performing. He's always been inconsistent. I believe it's primarily due to the euro that the big clubs are trying to get him these days. And because of the lack of info on how he performed prior to Euro guardiola and Txiki are pretty misguided about this man. It will be a COMPLETE WASTE of funds to invest. And you guys are gonna be the first to complain about signing, though I truly hope this never materializes.
