Barcelona isn't planning transfers in January

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona is not thinking about making a move when the winter transfer market opens in January.

With the technical staff satisfied with the current squad and with the attitude of all players on and off the pitch, Barcelona is not planning to make any incoming or outgoing transfer in the coming months.

This stand will only be changed if a player would get seriously injured in the coming weeks, preventing him to be available for the rest of the season.

Asked about the new rumours linking Russian player Andrei Arshavin to the club (read more here), Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain confirmed this week to journalists that no transfers are being planned: "If nothing bad happens, we don't expect to do anything this winter."

not sure if this is a good idea. our full squad size is still pretty light, and while we have a host of talent at our disposal, a couple of injuries on the wrong places of the pitch and we could be in trouble. true, we have a lot of players who can play in more than one position (Hleb, Sylvinho, Puyol, Keita, Iniesta), but if you'll notice only 2 of these are ideal first-team players (Iniesta and Puyol). Keita and Hleb are thus far unconvincing and my personal affect for Sylvinho aside, he's not as young as he used to be.

if this report is true it would seem to me that Pep is placing perhaps a bit too much emphasis on Barca B players to pick up the slack if we get into injury trouble (a subtle habit). i think one or 2 more versatile players, and at least one of them an attacking player, would be the best way to solidify our side. having to rely on Pedro or Victor Sanchez or Busquets to fill in for regular first-teamers is a bit too much of a gamble for my liking, particularly as the season wears on and we maintain our position in 3 competitions. would anybody really want to start Victor Sanchez or a left-wing-playing Hleb in a crucial Champion's League match, or against Villareal? i know i wouldn't.

and when we're playing this well, i think it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to keeping the squad on a roll, rather than having to lower our standard of play after a couple of injuries.

I agree that we don't have the depth needed (especially at left wing), but I think we're going to have to accept that it's unlikely something will change.

Guardiola is just a "I started the season with these guys, now I also want to end it with them" kind of coach. It's risky but he has credit. Most of us also thought it was risky not to go for a left winger in the summer and so far, so good.

I think we also need to ask a question"what if we signed And no one got injured?"
Beside, i support the idea of not signing any player on the left wing, thats if we are realy excited about the string of talents coming from the youth teams.
i think we have more depth than and team i can think about.

Quality players are cup tied, and its usually hard for any player who is signed in January to be useful for the rest of the season (no one adapt in a week or two), so y sending the wrong message to the current squad that "u r not good enough but don't worry, we will get the back up in January".
