Barcelona president denies Aguero interest

Asked about the rumours linking Atlético Madrid forward and Argentinian international Sergio 'Kun' Agüero (20) with Barcelona (read more here), Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said last week to journalists that Barcelona is not planning to move for the striker:

"Agüero is a very good player, but Barcelona has a balanced and deep squad. We're not thinking about new signings. I know that Guardiola is very happy with the squad he has at his disposal and that he has put together himself."

I hope it's true (but not just because Guardiola doesn't want new signings). The main obstacle will be his price. Atletico's asking price is too high, just as buyout clause. I know that Barca have to spend big, but it would be stupid to let them suck every penny out of FCB pocket.

Let's be clear, I won't mind if Barca buy him, but Atletico will surely sell him to some non-Spanish club, just like Torres. Personally, I think he'll join Inter (due to Maradona).

Regarding second one, Benzema, it would be the same problem too + interests from the other clubs which will be able to spend more than Barca (probably).

Last, but not less important. We have not to forget Nike-Adidas war, and they'll do everything to push Benzema to one of the Adidas clubs (Milan, RM, Chelsea).

I think the Nike-Adidas "War" is overrated. Ronaldinho, a Nike player, transferred to a Adidas team this season. We don't need Agüero, he's not the player we need in the centre and we have Messi/Iniesta on the wings. If Iniesta would fall back to midfield again then i could see him on the leftwing but the price should be ~30 million.

OK, SimonP, I meant "war"...anyway R10 has lost millions by going to non-Nike club, but doesn't matter.

So, FCB isn't interested in Aguero and I presume next target will be Benzema.
How about D. Villa?
I think he'll match perfectly at Barca. He'll stay at Catalunya, not faraway from home and Barca will pay less than buying Benzema.

Any other opinions (about new striker)?

P.S. I'd take Huntelaar

also laporta has to look forward. we cannot say our team is perfect and no changes are needed. each team winning trophies isn't as hungry any more so we also need at least one very good striker for the next season. and who would better fit to barca than aguero?

It's not that Agüero is a bad player but we already have so many players that are just like him. Small, quick, great eye for the game and good at dribbling. You won't win anything if you have 11 players like that on the pitch. You need a good mixture of different type of players. I think we need a big striker with a strong presence in the box, wouldn't mind someone like Van Nistelrooy but I think Barca should try to sign someone of these 4 next summer depending on how well they do in their club and progress in their careers: Adebayor, Benzema, Huntelaar and Gomez.

On the other hand if he would be avaliable for less then 30 million then I think the club could make room for him but anything more then that for a player who we don't have a dire need for is silly.
