Another contract renewal coming up for Messi

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona will offer Barcelona right wing attacker and Argentinian international Lionel Messi (21) another contract renewal in the summer.

The club wants to reward the player for his performances this season and give him the chance to focus totally on his game without having to worry about non-sporting issues.

Barcelona isn't worried about a possible exit because both Messi and his entourage are acting in a correct way and the player is totally involved with the club's project.

Besides a salary rise, Barcelona also plans to raise the buyout fee of the Argentinian forward from 150 to 200 milion euro°. The duration of Messi's contract, which currently links the player until the summer of 2014 to Barcelona, would not be changed.

Messi's contract was a last time renewed at the end of last season (read more here). Since then, the player earns a year salary of 8 million euro, plus another possible 4,5 million euro in incentives, depending on trophies won, classification for the Champions League and games played.

May need to put that buyout clause at 750 million euro to scare off city.

is there a legal maximum limit for the buyout clause?

Are they planning to renew his contract every year. 200 millones ain't enough. Make it 500 or something totally outlandish. The Man City owners seem really pigheaded. By the end of this season Barca would have won the treble n Man City with Kaka would have finished the Premiership 2 points above relegation. In desperation I don't think they are going to come up with any new ideas beyond throwing even larger sums of money at ppl.

kamikaze i heard a rumour that kaka wants a release clause in his contract of 65 million if man city dont qualify for the champs league from next season's league. Do you think that this will mean kaka to madrid in summer of 2010? With new elections and the galactico man mr perez hovering could we be seeing los galacticos II

I m not sure about this barca4life.
what I have read so far is that Kaka wants a buyout clause if they don't qualify in 2yrs and the RM link keeps turning in the event of the Man City move failing. I don't know if its at all likely that a player will transfer for 120 mill in Jan n then move away from the same club in the summer. It seems like a totally mockery of economics n besides even RM wouldn't imagine trying to prise him away with matching wages. Everyone in Madrid cannot be that stupid with Calderon having resigned maybe the next prez will come to power more on a plank of financial pragmatism rather than outrageous promises (can never tell with RM though, maybe it wil be Perez with Galacticos 2).

Can't see Kaka becoming part of a new Galactico scheme, particularly given the lack of success of that business the first go-round.

Jr. there isn't technically a maximum buy-out. It's always been presumed that a number north of 100million was sufficient to lock anyone down. Citeh has put paid to that notion.

I admire what we are willing to do for Messi, but I would rather see some other folks locked up, as well. Valdes and Puyol, not to mention Eto'o, are still on the table. Don't think the last won't be looking at whatever we give Messi and adjusting his demands, either.

It's almost certain that Kaka's contract (should such a thing come to pass) will include team performance clauses. The worst thing would be to be trapped, wasting time with a team that isn't going to win anything. If Citeh buys smart, augmenting the stars with good role players, and finding a coach that will instill some work ethic in guys like Robinho, they could be right up there next season.

I dont the club is scared of City because they know that Messi wouldnt leave Barça for City. I think the club is worried about temptation, i think if the club was offered 150m euros (his buy out clause price) then the club would be very tempted to accept it, who wouldnt ! I know, i know, Messi is the best and so forth but still, 150m euros is a lot of money, too much money to pass on.

yep messi is the best, but remember ronaldinho was the best too (many said then the best of all times like they do now with messi),and those prices were then for ronnie too,now we got 20sth from milan.... i dont want messi to leave but no player in the world should be valued 150millions ,even if he is the best player ever.those money can build a team....heck a team a stadium and you still will have some left hehe.

About the Kaka-Galavticos link: don't know about Kaka but it's pretty sure the Madrid elections will also have an impact on our transfers since guys like Benzema and Villa will be used in their race which would leave us at a second level.
