Vilanova talks (2): "There was no winger available"

Barcelona assistant coach Tito Vilanova talked in an interview with Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo about the team and the season so far.

The technical staff takes the responsability for not having signed a winger?
You have wing players but they are not on the market because Barcelona cannot transfer them. They are playing at top clubs who don't want to sell. Not every player can play at Barcelona, only four or five players can and those are already with the best clubs in the world. A new player should be really good. If that kind of transfer is not possible, we have the players from the B team who always have given a lot to the club. We're the only club who produces wingers.

The 4-3-3 system is too rigid for the players?
You can use the 4-3-3 in several ways, you can even make it look like a 4-4-2. When your centre forward drops back to midfield it's actually a 4-4-2, like we have tried once during the pre-season. What is very specific for us that we always have possession and we are always playing without any space. That's something that only happens to us, not even the other top clubs have to deal with that.

You can re-educate Messi so that he doesn't cut inside too much?
Leo is an incredible quality player. Close to the box, he's the most decisive player in the world. He has only done few training sessions with the group and you really need to have to be able to coordinate a series of movements depending on the zone where the ball is. But these are simple things and he already did that in pre-season, so there aren't problems.

Whose fault is it that Alves is not always covered when he goes forward?
The attack is not the problem. The problem arises when the centre backs and the attacking wingers are opening the pitch and the central defenders are doing the same trying to create something. When you then lose a ball, you have fifty metres in your back and the team has to reorganize quickly. Alves went forward 20 times and the Numancia left midfielder only was able to take advantage of that two times with one of his crosses leading to the goal. So you can't really say that there's a problem at the right wing because that player could make two runs. We all now that Alves always has the intention to go forward. If that wouldn't be the case, he wouldn't be the Alves we know.

I would like you just to take a look at Hyka ( he plays for ALBANIA) he is just 20 years old and you can see the next messi in him but in the left wing hes a perfect player.

the only winger that was transferable this summer and was cheap was mancini he went to inter for 15 million

Mancini is not a winger
He is a full-back
I still think that Arda Turan would be a perfect winger for us

Mancini is a winger, he just started his career as a full-black.

I'm from Albania. The first Anony.. that post on this topic says something about HYKA.Believe me, when I see Hyka plays it reminds me Messi.I'm not saying that he is like Messi, but in future he may be like him.

Keep the team like it is until, eventually promote Jeffren during the winter-market and promote Gai next year.

IMO, there is no space for a signing, especially on the wings. We keep producing great youngsters for that position so I don't see the point in adding 20year old wingers from other clubs to our squad.

Or would you like to see us lose Gai as well after Iago already left?

I just cant get how the current team can swich from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 by making the central farward drop back into the midfeild? which central forward he means Eto'o? I honestly cant see him playing behind Messi and henry/Bojan?
it would make more sense if Messi dropped back to make 4-3-1-2
as i see it the major problem resides in the Back line. He have create a plan to cover Alves while he is participating in the attack.
asking Poyol to cover creates gaps in the back line so it's not the solution.
I think playing with 2 Pivots "lets say Tore'+Kieta or may be Tore'+ Marquez". so one of them can cover Alves.
also trying Caceres on the left back he is still young and can establish himself in that position.
Just thoughts !! I'll be happy to hear what do you think.

u cant be serious with that hyka guy, he is backup player in german 2. bundesliga, how should he solve the problem on the left wing (if there is one)?
besides that i think barca should be a bit more patient and wait for the young players to develop instead of buying 24 year old players for millions and loosing the upcoming "stars"... and hleb, iniesta, bojan and henry are not the worst possible left wingers!

If we would go for a young promissin winger Hyka would be a great cheap option, he is just 20 and he looks just like messi :p. yeah he has qualities, on the wing he is incredible . go for him before its to late.
