Cesc talks about transfer to Arsenal

Speaking at an Arsenal members' 'Questions and Answers' session at the club's Emirates Stadium, Arsenal midfielder and Spanish international Cesc Fàbregas (22) told what it was like to leave Barcelona and join Arsenal:

"I was very young and was still playing for the Barcelona youth team. Arsène Wenger had never been to see me play, but after I signed, Arsenal's Spanish scout told me that they had come to see me 44 times.

When I came to talk with Arsenal aged 16, Arsène was the one who came to see me. He had cut his holiday to come to speak with me, and at 16 it had a big impact on my decision."

And that president Laporta visited your home and was trying to convince you to stay at Barcelona had no impact on your decision. Just stay at Arsenal for your entire career, dont beg to come back.

barca4life said...

Thats Pique next to the gk in that pic is it not?

WOW!! fabregas is sooo weak. just because wenger cuts his holiday short he is impressed? we dont need weaklings at barca.

wow seriously...

just say it. you wanted a big contract at an early age, that money was more important than his catalan pride. what a rat.

stay at arsenal. when this ship sinks we'll see where the rat flees.

at least pique had guts and pride to return home and prove himself.

cesc you're so lame i swear to god just shut up already.

Guess you also called Pique a rat one year ago...

He was 16, he was influenced by all sides, by Arsenal and by his entourage. I think it's pretty normal a 16-year old then makes a decision like this.

Anyway I still want him back, more than any other player tbh. If we had him on our team again, we'd have a long term replacement for Xavi, and have our (very strong) backbone of the team for the coming 5 to 10 years with him, Piqué, Bojan, Messi and even Iniesta.

The top anony,

Laporta did not convince him to stay. You want to know why?

Because at the time laporta wasn't the freakin' president YET.

Anyway, if Cesc doesn't come back, then, just pray to god that he doesn't go to MADRID.

Maybe someone know another guys from this picture (excepting Pique)..What happened with them?

The only way I can accept Cesc at Barca if he waits until his contract expires and comes for free. If we have to pay more than 10m for him than let him go to Real. But I hope he will rot in Arsenal.

TengkuAmir10 said...

I am guessing that one of them is the great Mikel Arteta.

skanjos said...

lol at the hate of some people,i believe if he comes back it will be the same people that will praise him, like pique.
yep i too think near the gk is pique,he looks like him

Manolo said...

Amir10, I Think Arteta is to old to be the pic, he's like 27 at the moment I think and Cesc is 22

groga said...

Piqué is there, the others just vanished I guess. These guys are like 7-8 years old, so only a small minority of the guys playing than at Barça make it to the first team (or even another Liga club). Most end up in local Catalan clubs.

TengkuAmir10: get your facts man. Cesc left in September 2003...in that time Laporta was already a president. And Laporta was convicing him.

And if he moves to Real Madrid, it doesnt surprise me. Cesc doesnt mind to play for them, shows again his "love" for Barcelona.

barca4life said...

Yes cesc left in sept 2003 but the club could not offer him a contract until laporta was elected. No transfer dealings or contract negotiations are done during the election. Remember last season the board was rushing to complete the business in case there was an election after the vote of no confidence.

The Cesc issue comes down to this. Fabregas had a sure offer from Arsenal (who were 1 of the top 2 teams in england at the time) versus a promise from Barcelona. I dont know how many of you would turn down a sure offer of a job in hopes of an offer from somebody else but i can say their is a lot of hypocrisy in the anger at cesc.

Lets boo Pique everytime he comes onto the pitch because he left right? Many people didnt want Pique to come back, the same Pique that was immense in the CL semi final and final. The same Pique that celebrated after scoring in the berna-boo.

The one on the lower right is actually Victor Vazquez. He played against Shaktar last season and played last pre-season for the first team. He is currently injured however. The others I don't recognize.

Arsenal got to overcome Celtic to qualify for Champions League... I hope Marc Crosas gets to play and he gives a lesson to both Cesc Fabregas & Merida on what's called loyalty. At least he didn't go out on permanent transfers. Hope he scores a brace and kicks Arsenal out of Champions League. Will see how Wenger would stick on to his most PRICED assets then.

barca4life.tq for the helpful comment that you assisted for me.

so i am gonna say this to you anony, get YOUR facts right.hahaha.such dumb people living in this world.

@ the other anony,

yup.i guess you are right.arteta is too old to be in this pic.my mistake.

@barca4life
even i don't want cesc to come and im not angry at cesc that he left us but im angry that he did not rule out a move to madrid being a catalan and cule at heart, he should be doing that without any hesitation but he did not do that instead he said, "im honoured that a club like real madrid is interested in me but for now im happy at arsenal" this is wat angered me the most and that merida F*** wanted to join madrid youth academy from barcas, i hope crosas scores a brace against arsenal and shows cesc who the real boss is :d

"Joan Laporta became president of FC Barcelona after winning the elections on 15.6. 2003."

You want to tell me that Laporta wasnt able to negotiate till September 2003? How come that for example Ronaldinho came in 19.7. 2003. I remember that Laporta visited Cesc and was convicing him to stay, true story. Stop defending the rat.

TengkuAmir10: seems you are now the dumb one. Or you have any more pseudo facts?

barca4life said...

Laporta won the elections on 15.6.2003. Are you telling me that the first order of business for the new president of barcelona was to sign a 16 year old youth academy product? Come on man lets be real here. Laporta was busy with the first team with beckham and ronaldinho. Maybe when he heard cesc was leaving he went to visit him. But his first order of business as president was not the signing of a 16 year old.

barca4life said...

I have no defence of merida. I what he did has no excuse. He had a pre-contract with us and he broke it.

I'd like to see how many of you would wait on your current company to offer you a new contract in 3 months because of a takeover when another company is offering you a contract now. You are hypocrites of the highest order. Any one of you that was offered instant money would take it rather than waiting on a promise.

How come we made sure to keep messi busquets bojan? because we learnt and we made sure that we held on to them. You cannot leave your doors wide open and complain when somebody steals something. you have to lock your doors and your gates.

Anonymous said...

Funny. Firstly you say Laporta wasnt able to try convicing Fabregas and now are you speculating that he surely had no time to think about one of the most promising players of your youth team. Seems there is no way you would admit it.

And why Messi, Busquets and Bojan are here? Because they love the club and wanted to stay. No youth contract can protect them before english clubs at the age of 16 (in England you can sign professional contract earlier then in the rest of the world, thats why english clubs rob italian, french and spanish academies), its just about the loyalty of the player. Messi is thankful to the club for everything they did for him, Cesc didnt care.

The club cant do anything better. You just cant lock your doors, you can never be sure, we have nothing to learn. There is no way to keep the players till the rules are changed (Platini wants to do it)...after Cesc, Pique and Merida for example Dani Pacheco left to Liverpool 3 years later.

If a great company from my country would teach me everything and I would have to wait for a better contract 3 months, yes I would rather wait then go abroad to a worse company.

barca4life said...

Firstly in 2003 barcelona had not won anything for 4 years so arsenal were not a lesser team and secondly I dont believe you. If somebody offers you a big bag of money when your company is telling you to wait you would wait? Its easy to say this now, when the actual situation happens its a different story.

So will you form a petition to sell the traitor pique too right? You are a hypocrite if you cheered for pique when he scored in the berna-boo. A hypocrite because you hate cesc for leaving but cheer another player that left and came back.

Anonymous said...

Seems that the word "loyalty" isnt in your vocabulary. Money doesnt excuse everything, or you have also understanding for such a mercenary like Luis Figo?

And Barcelona was ALWAYS a bigger club then Arsenal.

barca4life said...

Tell me did you or did you not celebrate the pique goal and are you going to start saying we should sell him because he is a traitor? Or is it only Cesc who you hate?

Anonymous said...

If memory serves me right,it was B4L who said not too long ago that cesc is a traitor and so on...who's being hypocrite now?

barca4life said...

Me? I may have said I didnt want him back at one stage but I dont remember calling him a traitor. In general I have always wanted us to go and get our youth team products back. Reina Cesc Pique Luis Garcia were all players I hoped we brought back to barca.

as much as i agree wif u Tengku.you just have to stop using foul words cos its annoying.on the other hand,i too cant remember an article saying Laporta Visted Cesc.i am 34 years old and have been a barca fan my whole life.i have searched for barrca articles ever since i had my computer 18 years ago.so,two thumbs up for Tengku and b4l.

@ abrca4life what kinda comparison is comparing a football club with a company. does a company have fans? or a company has tradition? or a company teaches you what u know about working in teh office? or people like you and me cry for 'samsung', 'microsoft' when they go bankrupt or incur losses in teh market coz their product is not selling well. football is a religion and clubs are shrines. there is something called loyalty and money isnt everything.
i just agree with you on one point that people here are hypocrites just like our board these are teh same people who vote for cesc's transfer and now are writing hateful comments. seriously people learn to stick to one side.

personally i hate cesc this guy is one of teh most disgraceful players around spitting, diving under hand tactics to win matches u name it. i wud never want this traitor to come back i hope he rots in arsenal forever and all this hype about him goes.

messi's got 2CLs and 2Ligas 1Copa,
pique bojan busquets archived treble last year, what does cesc think about this now?

it would b so stupid 4 us 2 pay 40m 4 a plyr we creatd out of nothng! we'd rathr play JDS & Thiago than buy cesc bck cz i blv thy wll mch bttr..lt hm rot at arsnal wtht evn a sngle trphy!

well he's far from that 16 yr old kid now, he should be more discreet with his comments. he's been saying a mouthful all summer. thats what some of us are simply pointing out. its not a hate thing, more like show a little respect for the club that helped you along the way.
