Barcelona preparing bid for Berbatov

British tabloid The Daily Mirror claims that Barcelona is preparing a 30 million euro° bid for Tottenham forward and Bulgarian international Dimitar Berbatov (27) (read more here).

Barcelona now appears to be the favourite to land Berbatov. The player is determined to leave Tottenham this summer and prefers a move to Spain. Barcelona hopes that their relationship with Tottenham after the Giovani dos Santos transfer may help to reach an agreement.

Former Barcelona player Hristo Stoichkov has recommended Barcelona to him and recommended at the same time Berbatov to his former team-mate and new Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola.

Tottenham doesn't want to lose their Berbatov but knows that he wants to leave and that it will be difficult to keep him. Athough the English Premier League club hopes to get the best deal possible, Tottenham would rather sell to a foreign club than to another English side and would therefore consider to reject a higher bid by Manchester United.

30M for him? Too much. BTW, if you want to spend that money than spend it on Villa or Silva. He's not good enough for FCB. Thank God Mancini and Hleb won't come to FCB, so I'll keep praying that he stays far away from Barca.

Great! This must be the perfect time for me to ask them to buy me a £1 million bench house in Venice as they are clearly willing to throw money away.

Also, getting rid of Eto'o for Berbatov, Deco for Hleb and Ronaldinho for Silva is very unbalanced. Forcing out players that would make an huge impact for their new club for ones that, even at their best, would not add much to the team -- Despite him being such a favourite to supporters here, I add Silva to that because, no matter how well he played at Valencia, playing in a 4-3-3 is different from a 4-4-2. As a Wing Forward, the player must be a goal-scorer and Silva isn't even a shooter, let along scorer. Palacio would be a better buy in my 'every-fan-knows-better-than-the-club' opinion.

In the last few years:
Silva 149 apps/ 18 goals
Palacio 106 apps/46 goals

Barca should buy the best player suitable to the team, not just any random good player just because they have the money!

Besides, why are they so desperate to sign a centre forward? All Barcelona need is someone to manage the position until Bojan is ready....Or did I miss something concerning his career at Barca?

Let's just keep Eto'o and buy an experienced back-up with different qualities (strong, back to the goal, good heading). Than you have everything with Eto'o-...back up...-Bojan.

yes i agree with all of th above comments.barca should buy silva surely if they need a strong team orelse it wont look like an complete team.so silva should be signed .he is the only player to replace ronaldinho.and villa would replace eto and moutinho/hernanes will replace deco.then our complete squad will be completed

For perhaps 5mil more you can get Silva AND Pavljchenko! 30mil for Berba' is much too high! And it's not like he's playing in the Euro's where you could somewhat understand if Tottenham was inflating his value. I'm sure Tottenham would still consider a striker swap with Eto'o but he pretty much burned that bridge by stating that Tottenham wasn't a big enough club for him. Barca should just sign Silva and Moutinho and call it a summer!

he suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx....He was playing in Germany, I have seen him a million times...he has really improved since going to Tottenham but he still sucks...

my god, Barca needs some fresh blood in the front office...they are doomed with the current stupidity.
