Guardiola rejects renewal talks

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola has postponed all negotiations on the renewal and extension of his contract.

Despite the fact that the club would prefer to renew the manager's contract, that expires next summer, as soon as possible, Guardiola thinks the focus should now be on team. It is now expected that renewal talks will only be started at the end of the current season.

I got a wierd feeling he´s going to leave after next season, no matter what happens.

Good for him and the club. He knows 2 straight stellar season will mean a better and longer term contract. If he were to achieve them, I would like to see him manage the team ala SA Fergie i.e for decades.

I think Guardola wants to be free to attach himself to the candidate he wants to win the elections. smart move

Every candidate that wins the elections will want him to stay, so don't see the problem there. And he won't let the president affect his decision.

He just knows he won't be able to keep on doing this for many more years. He's working like crazy, he has kids who he want to see grow up. I certainly don't expect him to become our Ferguson. Five years will be the absolute maximum.

I think Sneaky's right, as in Guardiola may get closer to a candidate he feels would be very appropriate and gain a few votes for him as the voters might fear a vote for another guy may mean losing Guardiola.

And that's not a bad move, as Guardiola may influence the elections a little. I'm not calling him with a secret agenda, but wouldn't you want the guy you'd feel would help you the most win the elections?

Whoever the next president will be, Guardiola will sure have a better relationship with him than with Laporta, who he can't stand.

Let's not forget that in 2003, Laporta was part of the Bassat candidacy, against Laporta.

The only reason he isn't signing a new contract is because next year there's going to be new management. Pep wants to know what their future plans are and how they plan to move forwards before he gets tied down. Can't blame him really...but if anyone thinks he doesn't want to stay then they don't know what they're talking about.

He doesnt want to burden a new board with his contract. Its that simple. If the new board thinks he is doing a good job they will get him a new contract. He needs to know that they have faith in him and how they will act because if they do not it will be a recipe for disaster. I agree with him, its better to let the new board come in and decide who they want.

Trez: And you suggest he will simply quit being a coach, or go to some other team? I am sure Mourinho, Ferguson, Capello, Ancelotti and others also had kids, but they still have to go to work.

Guardiola is a good coach and he deserves "a contract same as of Sir Alex"-long term contract without and end !!!! But as the elections are around the corner, i bet he wouldnt open negotiations until he sees the new adminstration coming in, then upon his satisfaction or desatisafaction, he'll go from there, but as i diehard fan, i wish for him to stay much longer !!
Guys: where can i get full video clips (english subtitled) of the treble celebtrations etc.

If we finish 6th next season in La Liga, and gets knocked out of the CL group stages, do you think the next board will have faith in him?

Guardiola is different, Anony. And Barca is different too.

trez: What do you mean by that, trez?

trez said...

If you cannot fill that in yourself, no need to give explanations... It would take too long.

So you can't explain why Mourinho, Ancelotti and others can be managers for more than 2 years, while Pep can't and needs to quit?

trez said...

I said 5. At Barcelona. We'll see.

I think the blue training outfits are cool. The yellow ones are ugly though...

Pep wants to be in control. So if a new president is elected and he doesn't like, then he doesn't have to stick around.

OR

Maybe Pep will run for president ;)

It's funny how Trez talks like he spends his afternoons drinking tea with Guardiola!

Iniesta Goooooaaaaal !!!!! said...

??? He does not sign !!! Thats 1 of the reasons he wanted Eto'o to leave !!!

Pep you have to show the way, by not singing you give a bad example to the team!!! At the end of next season there will be to much attention to his staying or not!!!
THATS NOT GOOD FOR THE TEAM'S SPIRIT !!!
